I just started Act 2, some thoughts on the story so far.
I just finished the scene where they "burry" Gustave's arm.
I assumed Gustave would die, but I thought it would be closer to the end. These baguette fuckers really pulled a season 1 of GoT here. They hooked you with the incredible performance of Charlie Cox, but saved the budget by killing him off early. It's a bit sad since he was the best character, both in performance and in personality. But the scene where everyone mourns him was really strong and I believe the game can continue the high quality story they had so far.
Verso becoming the main character all of the sudden was a bit jarring. I don't mind him joining the party and I think he is a cool addition to the story. But having to play him during camp sequences doesn't work for me. Previously, both the player and Gustave had the same objective and knowledge. Now the player is disconnected from Verso, he clearly knows a lot more than the player and I don't even know if his objective is the same or if he is lying. Playing Maelle would make a lot more sense, but then I guess they couldn't have the persona-tier friendship scenes, which I'll hold some of my thoughts on it until I see more scenes.

On another subject. Getting Verso, I realized that Gustave's gameplay gimmick was literally "easy mode" for the introduction. And Verso's gimmick is much more inline with the others in terms of complexity and challenge.
Anyways, I'll miss hearing "For those that come after" every time I nuke the shit out of an enemy.

Honestly, I love that these french niggers looked at the world balance in the dictionary and said "hon hon hon fucke this shite!! Pierre, crank those numbers or no moldy cheese for you!"
It's just fun!
A lot of my winning attempts against some of these hard bosses can be summarized as "Let's go gambling", and I'm not mad that I "have" to get lucky to win.

I get it.
I'm running Roulette on all my characters. This game is one big gamba session. That's why I prefer multi-hit attacks, because I can go 500 damage > 500 damage > 9999 damage

i killed trumpet faggot that way with only lune
Once you learn the mechanic, it gets really satisfying.

Flawless victory against this anchor nigger.

ROULETTE CANNOT STOP WINNING its an instant apply to all of my guys.

So I am still not done with the game despite be one of the first to play it outside of reviewers.
But this genuinely has to be one of the best things i have ever played.
from the performance, this plays well on steam deck holy shit, to the story, to the thrilling gameplay, to the absolute banger of a soundtrack, to the incredible world building, to the even better character development, this is an all around homerun.
Anyone that wants to shit on this is only doing so out of ignorance.

I have probably one of the longest backlogs of all time that includes, games, movies, books and albums that i need to experience, so when a game comes along and makes me feel like i have to experience everything it has to offer, I know its something special.

This game has captured my heart in a way not many could do genuinely, and it mostly did so with the effort and creativity that it brought to the forefront. So I'm gonna enjoy this, take in every last bite, or at least everyone i can find, until the credits roll.

Why does it feel so fucking awkward positioning myself to reflect those little bastards.
Yeah, I think the biggest problem with the mini game was not knowing if you were at the right angle to reflect them, you could run to one but then you needed to make sure you were facing forward to hit it, then run to the other side frantically and you'd be pointing to the side when you hit reflect so it misses and if you miss one then you're off tempo and now you're fucked.

I think I'm going to drop Maelle. I know she's super strong, but my dumbass brain can't figure out how to make her useful. She's constantly losing stance because she has no AP to use her stance. I tried slotting in Mezzo Forte as a bridge, but then she just gets targeted hate and dies or gets stunned.
I'm gonna be honest, once you get this weapon, she basically plays herself as long as you can consistently parry, the Virtuose Stance applies before the counterattack so you can hit absurd numbers later on.

On K+M it was a chore.
In settings, change run from Press to Toggle as it helps a bit.
Best position is behind the 3 wooden planks and I also used both hands on the keyboard, one for WASD and one for F.
Maybe it's placebo, but I felt more responsive and fast.

Acknowledge me, parryGODs.
23m?!
I wanted to ask for a video (I use Steam Recorder and clip my shit), but that's just too long a time for a battle.
Still, kudos!

just arrived to the village and im ready to fight in teh arena. wish me luck bros
You won't need it. Those fights are easy.
Just remember, the one who fights last (the Stranger) will get a weapon.
I would advice Maelle for that job.

Also, boyz, when you get the Paint Spike destroyer, visit the early zones, as they have some hidden loot.

And finally, how did you guys built your characters? Any weapon or picto defining your build?

It's the boss that's like a huge shrubbery in a side area you find right at the start of the world map(I forgot the name), and I forgot to actually rest before that fight so everyone was low health(as if it mattered since they'd get oneshot anyways)

All of my dudes were levels ~14 and I didn't bother with lumina upgrades or weapon upgrades, and I botched a couple of parries so at the end it was just Gustav who doesn't do much damage on my end.
I brought it on myself but after like 75% of the boss's health I thought "no way I'm doing this again", and it was really good parry practice.

I just turned 33 this year. This game came at the right time for me.

Good lord, I've honestly not even known how much I've been craving a Western JRPG take on a game that isn't just sucking off Chrono Trigger or Earthbound for the umpteenth time. This actually feels like its own thing by basically cleaning up the excess inventory (what exactly do you really need besides healing and reviving anyway?) and putting the focus on commands, dodging and parrying. It actually feels like an action game without being one. I'm enjoying it a lot, especially the little touches like the overworld basically being just a classic JRPG overworld with oversized characters running around a miniature map.

It's cute.

I finished Act 1 today and I can't believe Gustave got Galufed. I was kind of expecting it, but not so early on. I hope Verso can pick up the slack.

Also, I just realized I kind of ignored the majority of optional(?) areas and went along with the story instead thinking we're not going to leave the island so soon. Is it worth to back up and explore a bit more? Because the next story area looks like it might ramp up in difficulty.
