Also to call E33 a movie game compared to JRPGs is fucking delusional since unlike alot of JRPGs you actively have input in the gameplay for 100% of the combat instead of half of it. The average playthrough of E33 is about 40-50 hours. There is about 4 hours of cutscenes. So 10 percent of it. Xenoblade Chronicals 3 takes about 80 hours to beat on average and it has almost 20 fuckin hours of cutscenes.

This game is so unbelievably mid, it's not even funny. If this had come out during the late 90s / early 2000s JRPG boom, it would've been ignored for being too French. The only reason why this game is getting any attention at all is because we haven't had a decent turn based RPG in ages, but everyone's treating it like it's the second coming of Christ. Get over yourselves. It's not special. It's not anything we haven't seen before.

Call me in a few years when its (inevitable) sequel release gets the Kingdom Come II treatment and they fill it with "diversity".

What makes E33 cool is that it takes everything great about JRPGs and combines those elements without any of the tedious or obnoxious bullshit in between, while also having its own unique flair and a great story/characters to boot. It is extremely derivative because it's ultimately a (very well made) love letter to the genre. Getting pissy just because it didn't reinvent the wheel in 2025 isn't a valid criticism. Once again its broken from gameplay segments and codec calls simultaneously which is different from flat out stopping the game to watch a movie ala Xenosaga. Its very annoying in between the atypical anime tropes is why I didn't care for XC2 and XC3 IN in comparison to XC1 and XCX
