If I had to guess it's the whole "Baby's First FPS" hatred towards Halo/Half Life for killing fast paced fps games in favor of more story oriented setpieces.
It's the usual typical boomer malding over Bungie era Halo being better than classic Doom.
I've been watching Civvie's videos a lot lately and I can't remember him complaining about Halo. Speed definitely is an important factor. Halo CE came out 5 years after Quake, which was extremely fast. Add to that moon physics, low FOV and gamepad controls and it looks like a joke. I played a bit of Halo CE and Halo 2 with a bunch of friends and I think both those games could be improved a lot with a few very basic modifications.
Because everyone aped Halo, which was a PC shooter tailored to work on a console, without understanding why Halo was what it is which led to decline in PC shooter quality.
Because it was the advent of multiplayer FPS which then resulted in games where you shoot brown people and children in the chat yelled Nigger.
There's also an episode where he deliberately fires a gun inside of a car to mess with a hostage, then says that his hearing is so fucked up by all the gunfire he's surrounded by that it doesn't faze him anymore. Peak Archer.
When I was a kid a friend of mine had an Xbox and halo. Would bring it over and if hook it up to my network and fire up GameSpy tunnel or whatever it was called for online multiplayer.
