Gman has a review of Powerslave, wonder if/when Civvie will touch it. I played the EX version way back when it came out and enjoyed myself but never finished it. I can see why the game appeals to people and feel like if I had grown up with it I would have felt stronger about it but nice to see it getting the Nightdive treatment.

(Where the hell is the System Shock remake you lazy fuckers?)
the remake team has only around 15 people on average working on it at any given point so its been slow but mostly steady. on valentines day they announced that the game is fully playable from beginning to end and now they just polishing everything up and putting assets in

I bought a big box version of this from a grocery store bargain bin back in the 2000s or so along with Realms of the Haunting and Quest for Glory... V? The spooky one.

I remember installing this on my Dad's laptop while he and Mum went out for dinner and feeling immediately motion sick in a way that I have never felt before. The game literally made me ill. That said, good video, I enjoyed the energy and the slav jank and the education because I always thought it used the Quake engine but turns out I was totally wrong. Always loved the little details they used in the first level(s) that completely went out the window later.

I really like this one, he made basically 2 episodes in one, Powerslave remaster and Powerslave with Build engine. That took a lot of effort and also humor (for the most part) is spot on.

Honestly, I never even knew there was a build engine version. All I recall is reading articles in some old Russian gaming mags, talking about the SEGA CD version.

Good review, I completed the Saturn version multiple times back in the day and was eager to try the remaster, which didn't disappoint. I'd agree the only real flaws are the wide hitbox, which I don't recall from the original but could be wrong, and the BS trap pots that definitely were. The addition of checkpoints is a good call and makes me wonder how I once had the patience to do entire levels without them.

Good episode, presently surprised he didn't argue against it for having the world Slave. Does the bad ending make you immortal only to collapse a city on top of you?

In the bad ending
you get sealed inside the King's tomb, the aliens return years later and conquer the planet, your corpse ends up as a museum exhibit
. Although to he honest I'm not sure how that relates to not being able to send a distress signal

edit: i started watching it but i don't think i can get through 30 minutes of first person roguelike, fuck off civvie

It's pretty much what I expected, far more of a playthrough than a review since Civvie is too scared to actually criticize a new game and face backlash from jannies.
The game looks like a mess where you basically roll a dice and hope for something broken enough to get by the bullshit the game throws at you. Oh yeah, having a final boss which insta kills you on it's second stage with no way to anticipate is good design in a roguelike.
The important thing is to criticize old games for bad game design and infuriating enemy placement and then suck the dick of modern roguelites who don't even bother to do that.
