Not a bad video but kind of makes me wonder if he played this when it came out or way after the fact because people told him to. I never had a machine that could run it back in the day so I lived vicariously through friends. Still remember PC Gamer giving it like 97% or something and being blown away, but those were the days when LucasArts seemed incapable of making something that wasn't an instant classic.

As someone who played Dark Forces II back when it first came out, it feels to me Civvie's review lacks context. This was a full 3D FPS with a well-defined story and level design that at least tried to look like more than just random corridors, rooms and boxes, and it came out before Half-Life. It didn't age fantastically, but it was very good at the time. A lot of his complaints sound just petty, like he's trying to stretch five minutes of notes on a game he just doesn't feel strongly about into a 30-minute video, because he's not willing to let hours of footage go to waste.

Jedi Knight tried to be more than a Quake-clone and stay true to star wars with it taking place in that universe instead of just themed levels(there's that long elevator ride where you see more and more of this huge spaceship outside, just to establish the world/location, it was something other games didn't do and certainly not on that scale), but the technology was so limited at the time and they could only do so much.
I'm not going to lie and say I didn't find the gameplay wonky, it didn't feel as sharp as other games and the light saber combat was absolute flailing garbage, it was like tilting at enemies with a weedwacker. From the things I remember I can only say that a lot of his criticisms about the gameplay seems fair enough.

I wonder what the game would have been like if it had some slight roleplaying elements added to it, like talk to a bartender, do a small side quest(kill Guy1 in Alley2), then a secret vent will be available and now you can get into [AREA] from another direction. It felt like the game had room for something like that and if they at some point had ideas along those lines, that were scrapped, I wouldn't be surprised.

Star Wars Strife sounds pretty good, honestly.

so instead of reviewing Chasm he reviewed it's cheap ass mockery... tsk, "quality"
There really isn't much to say about Chasm that hasn't already been said: came out same year as Quake, tries to do 3D but is more of a 2.5D kind of game ala the Build engine, it has a neat dismemberment system, and that's about it. It's a totally mediocre experience.

I saw just a few of his videos, but already feel like he's overreacting to "unavoidable damage", mild inconveniences and such old ass FPS things. And it's like AVGN-kind of overreact, mostly dull and over-the-top.

Mostly, true. yet for the time Chasm have come out this dismemberment system was a wonder. one of a few at the time.

what I'm pretty sure about he'll never review "No respect" and "Tunnel B-2"... they were nice, although first one runs like shit (ie doesn't work at all) and Tunnel... well, can't say much about this one....

Different strokes, and I'm not gonna pretend that Civvie's videos are absolute perfection and totally unworthy of any criticism, but I've never stopped looking forward to seeing what he puts out next myself. Hell, I can still go back and put on stuff like his Blood and Duke videos back to back and not get tired of them.

Then again, the people that blindly dickride Civvie are also pretty fucking obnoxious. But that's most of the boomer shooter community by this point, honestly. Like a lot of these faggots can't make a distinction between "haha this person makes funny, I enjoy their stuff" and "CONTENT CREATOR IS A LITERAL GOD AMONG MEN AND SHITPOSTER MEME SUPREME, I MUST WORSHIP THE GROUND THEY TREAD ON".

Because the spine of his audience (and majority of it overall) are literal children and teenagers couupled with grown ass manchildren. Other part of his fanclub is diverse as fuck, thanks to worldwide acknowledge of a character.

I'd might to mention that there are some rumors his server have a bunch of sex pests and predators as well (one of which is happened to be a mod, because of course) but, eh, nobody would belive me. It wouldn't be that unsirprising for them to really be there.
Again, nothing but rumors.

That's the thing with Civvie's videos, though.

If it's a game Civvie has played a shitload of, or at least had an appreciation for before starting the channel, it's likely going to be a good video. Blood and Duke3D seemed to be staples for him, and for a more recent example Dusk completely sucked him in and you could see it in the videos.

If it's a game Civvie is clearly only playing for the sake of the channel, though? It's a crapshoot. If the game doesn't click, it'll be a whiny bitchfest. If he does enjoy the game, it'll be more entertaining but his commentary is still likely to be shallow.

Personally, I think he's stretching his gimmick thin already. But his channel is still growing, so what do I know.
