His Marathon vids have been great. I knew the games were dense but the lore and story behind them is mind-bending. Shame the games look and play like shit in my opinion. I still remember my Mac-fag uncle trying to counter my criticism of Apple not having any games with "but Marathon" and then watching me just go black to playing Doom.

I'm not a Marathon fan at all but back then it held my interest because it felt different, looked different, I really liked the weapons and I was at a place with one mac, two games(Myst 1, Marathon2) and nothing to do which probably explains a lot now that I think about it.

Mandalores video on Pathways into Darkness was also good, never played it and it looks bad but it had some really intriguing ideas stuffed into a Wolf3D style FPS.

Unrelated to that, I wonder how youtube obfuscate their statistics, a semi-popular youtube in niche space(300k views average) once uploaded a video and I happened to refresh/click on it within seconds. It had 1 views(me I guess), 5 likes and 11 dislikes. Even made a comment about it seeming weird. I wonder if they're running the Reddit system and fudging the numbers because of reasons I don't remember.

I like how he showcases one of the more notable secrets (the Gonzogun), but absolutely misses the dual Revolver pickup you can get practically at the start of the second level. Everyone always seems to miss that one.

Also wish he could've came up with some bits for most of the other survivors in the game. Seriously, he skimmed a metric fuckton of the NPC escorts. But maybe he thought they wouldn't have been very algorithm-friendly. Who knows.

The NPCs have somewhat questionable AI, as does literally everything in The Suffering, but most of the escorts do have entertaining personalities and provide some extra color and fluff to the game's presentation, usually by either having some prior association with Torque or being able to describe the island's history or give insight into certain locations you explore with them in tow. Some events only trigger with the given NPC following you as well.

They aren't great but they are optional. You need to do them to get the good ending but escort quests aren't heinous like Siphon Filter.

Yeah the issue with being an edgy-boi NPC murderer with no patience is you lose out on a lot of extra content that's interesting and frankly more entertaining than just progressing through the game as fast as possible.
 
I think I'm just done with Civvie. His schtick got old real fast and I just don't find myself interested in the new videos.

The only thing I use him for now is info on new boomer shooters. If there's anyone else doing that I'd appreciate the info.

His Thief video(s) are fun. I think his issue is that he's gone to the well a few too many times on the oldschool shooters and now he's stuck covering newer stuff that just isn't as interesting because partly that no one has really played them or they're perpetual Early Access (fuck that noise). If we could actually get the Blood source code magically and suddenly the doors opened to easy modding the well would be full again but that said he hasn't touched any Duke3D mods that I'm aware of, has he?

I hope he'll cover Legend of the Seven Paladins eventually, that shit has TekWar levels of potential.
