I tried making the kiwi gingerbread cookies, but I learned that non-circle cookies are simply not for me - and I already knew I suck at decoration... at least they taste good.

I'm partial to the crinkle cookie. They look super wintery and Christmassy to me. They're delicious from scratch, but I've also made them using the cake mix method.

I posted this to the gingerbread cookies thread but I guess this would be a good spot too. Does anybody have a solid recipe for gingerbread house walls? The grocery store ones are disgusting and the recipes I have tried aren't sturdy enough.

Gaudete Sunday so it was high time for me to bake at least something:

Pretty standard fare in Germany. Top to bottom:
  • Vanillekipferl (shortcrust pastry with added ground almonds and covered in a vanilla-sugar-mixture after baking)
  • Zimtsterne (cinnamon stars, round almond, sugar, egg white and cinnamon dough, Brushed with meringue before baking at low heat. they're heart-shaped for that special someone in my life, and not because I just happened to not find my star shaped cookie cutter)
  • Husarenkrapfen (shortcrust pastry with added ground hazelnut and piped with jam before baking)
  • Kokosmakronen (coconut macaroons, popular globally, but not generally christmas-coded)

I always enjoyed the "stained glass window" effect from putting Life Savers into the negative space of a cookie. Looks neat, a PITA to eat (sticky candy in teef).

This time of year I also break out the rosette iron for my family's traditional fried treat, dusted with powdered sugar. I like the iron attachment that makes a little cup that I can fill with a light cream cheese mixture (or just whipped cream) and fresh fruit.

Snowball cookies are just an almond-spice ball rolled in powdered sugar, but they are so melt-in-your-mouth and delicate they are perfect with morning or after-dinner coffee. I'll dig out the recipe when I plan to make them closer to the holiday.

I don't have cookie recipes, but I got my hands on a 1909 copy of Mrs. Beeton's Household Management and it has a few Christmas related recipes (I have yet to try) but I figured I'd share in case anyone might enjoy them.

I think at X-Mas choco chip cookies benefit from walnuts. I'm not a huge fan of thick cookies or huge globs of chocolate. Imo each bite should have a good mix of dough, nut and chocolate and a cookie should be 4-5 bites. The tollhouse choco chip recipe works fine. I usually reduce the butter by about 1/3 of what they call far but always grease the pan with whatever is left of the sticks, gives that classic outer flake.

And yea, I'm licking the beaters.

Not strictly cookies, but cookie adjacent.

"Chocolate bark"

12oz milk chocolate, melted
12oz white chocolate, melted
1/4 tsp of peppermint extract to add to the white chocolate (optional)
Various candies, cookie crumbs and sprinkles of your choice to decorate, would be fun for kids

(I’m not exactly sure why the M&Ms decided to fade on the white chocolate one, I guess they didn’t like being put in the freezer to set.) Merry Christmas!

my batch of chocolate crinkle cookies are baked! i also have three other doughs currently in the refrigerator, ready for tomorrow. then on Christmas Eve, my husband is taking me to see the Nutcracker and we will make gingerbread men together after! also maybe some vin chaud!!

I haven't decided what to make yet, but I have at least 5 lbs of butter and flour. I'm all about that snickerdoodle, but I might try to make that crinkle cookie, looks great.

Might do spritz if I can find a cookie press, idk.

Vanillekipferl (shortcrust pastry with added ground almonds and covered in a vanilla-sugar-mixture after baking)
My family makes nusskipferl, and imo they are the best cookies ever.

It’s the Oma recipe. A dough made with butter, sour cream, flour, and egg yolks with a filling of egg whites, sugar, walnuts, rum, and vanilla. They take two days as the dough needs to rest, and rolling them all takes some time, but they are always cleaned out anytime I take them to a potluck or whatever.
I’ve been making these since I was a child, I’ve got it down to a science.

Where hazelnut-based nougat (gianduja? no clue what the common english name is) is used for the dough in place of sugar. But filled nusskipferl like yours seem to be the more common meaning of the name (I just never encountered them before) very neat.

Also some vegan coconut macaroons in the pic.

COOKIE THROWDOWN 2025!
I made these with my mom and grandma under the watchful eye my very helpful cat. We assembled a few boxes to give to family and neighbors as thanks for the treats they gave us already.

First of the batch was these lemon crinkles made with lemon cake mix. They also called for lemon-infused olive oil which we couldn't find so we compromised with regular olive oil and extra lemon juice. These are INCREDIBLY soft and moist and cakey.

Second were Iced Maple Sugar Cookies, which we all found too sweet, they could probably do without the icing.

Mexican Chocolate Snickerdoodles are a traditional favorite, 10/10 absolutly bangin

These are called Peanut Butter Munchie Nummies or some shit like that, it's a chocolate cookie with a peanut butter filling and was VERY delicious.

These are the classic Toll House chocolate chip cookies that my great-great-grandma was famous for.

Baked with the cousins on Christmas Eve. We made gingersnaps, hojicha chocolate chip cookies, and a matcha strawberry cake with matcha white chocolate glaze, homemade cream cheese frosting, and strawberry jam. Everything was made very last minute since we suck at planning but it was worth it. Nothing like blasting Christmas music at midnight with the fam.
