Most reasonable people would come to the conclusion that this is where their life should turn around. Chris experienced the terror of being separated from his possessions and his mother, as a consequence of his actions, nearly going batshit insane over it.
Unfortunately, because of constantly being bailed out at every turn, he developed an invincibility complex (not the least helped by him trooning out) and as such, believed that he could do what the fuck he wants, his parents/Rocky/Null/White Knights would ALWAYS be there to bail him out, or at the very least, he could always attempt to run away and everything would be hunky-dory.
That is a possible reason why Chris was so calm during his arrest, and so smug in that jail mugshot. He legitimately believes that something is going to intervene and bail him out of what he now sees as a minor inconvenience. It may be a bit late for me to say so, but I really don't think it sunk in for him that his enablers are almost all gone, his mother is potentially in a home, he has no tugboat coming in and all of his possessions including his house stand to be scrapped by the bank. As far as he is concerned, that Dimensional Merge is coming, and it'll solve all of his problems, reality be fucking damned.
That said, fuck the Idea Guys, and Bella too, for making things go the way it did. I hope somebody smashes your faces with a frying pan until you turn as ugly as Chris's sense of fashion.
I was going to agree with you until the very last line. I mean, dude, you might have only one eye but you're not blind. Most people are already over their "N-no, Bella ruined Chris life! He did nothing wrong!" phase already since, at some point, you really need to take that blindfold off and understand Chris was 100% aware of how wrong this was, the illegal aspects, he bought a sex book in advance, he's had these fantasies for years and waited for the moment Barb was weak enough to act, he premeditated this and gradually adjusted Barb to the situation (she might have dementia or not, it doesn't matter, you wouldn't excuse such abuse on your elderly relative in the same way).
Chris' autism is not at such extreme levels that he simply didn't know what he was doing, extreme autists aren't rapists either, there's something else going on in that head, the awareness of lack of consequences through his whole life, he's been shown to perfectly get out his merge bs when convenient and, as usual, some people will defend ANYTHING he does which is perfectly convenient for him too, as usual. If I could pretend to be some merge goddess because I know people will take me out responsabilities and consequences, I would keep that act as much as possible because I always had these people eating from my hand and they'll continue to do so.
He's innocent and autistic enough to be manipulated into raping his mom but, yet, he's mature enough to pay bills, drive his car, go to every single convention he wants, make thousand of dollars from commissions (so work) but raping his mom is where he is suddenly an extremely gullible kid? Nuh-uh.
The constant defenses of him after this whole rape incident are proof that some people will excuse and forgive anything he does and MAAAYBE consider otherwise in the case he kills someone or rapes, instead of his elderly mom, a child or (that we are unaware of) one of his endless continuosly escaping-or-dying-but-clearly-suffering pets.
No, Bella didn't ruin Chris' life, the Idea guys had some influence but no, stop excusing him, he ruined his own life as usual, he always digs himself into a deeper hole.
Chris is so calm because he's probably thinking Null or another white-knight is simply going to save him from consequences yet again, hell, he might even get his house paid for! (inb4 that won't happen anymore)
Barb won't save him, Null won't be able to save him forever, nobody can rescue the guy from who he is and, mark my words, when he is finally free, he WILL do something worse eventually.
