Honestly the role playing like that is the bigger turnoff, because first off the options are all uncanny valley stuff but I'm not really myself in anything, I'm Link or Mario or Master Chief or Samus or JC Denton or whatever. I almost always pick the male character. The only time I pick a female character is if the male character looks like a fag (Genshin Impact), or I am playing an MMO and making my dozenth alt or so and already have the cool male/race combos created. I don't like to create repeat male/race combos. At that point I will start creating female characters.

i do it if i have a character in mind for the game. for instance, first v i did for cyberpunk was a corpo fem v who was going to be a silent weapons user (blades and suppressed guns). i ended up abandoning this v because this was around launch and we all know how that game was then. did a male nomad v later that specialized in netrunning quickhacks.

There is a certain stigma of playing female characters because there's a big overlap with troons and/or coomers, but that doesn't apply to everybody, either.

It all depends on stats and how badass the males look. In one old MMO I used a free ticket to swap to a female of a specific race because they had higher damage stats and better (quicker) animations than males, and I was a filthy number-crunching tryhard back then. I am not a woman, but I ocasionally play as women. I also frequently play as cyborgs, monsters, and I have a pattern of making my avatar a green dude when possible. I am also none of those things.

I don't think it's necessarily troon shit. It is a videogame. It’s not real, and I am not my character. Not a woman but also not a green dude or a sick cyborg action hero IRL either. I remember as kids we used to play as cowboys or knights which we also clearly were not and nobody batted an eye.

It’s like creativity is looked down upon. Playing/writing a female? Troon shit, clearly. Normies blew this out of proportion when mobile games opened the floodgates. Nowadays the hardcore crowd, and people able to understand that it’s just a game are pariahs in their own scene, because it’s the DSP thing. You play a role. I know I am not Gigantvs Chvddvs the space marine in real life, but in SM2 I am, that's how escapism and immersion work.
