CBS and Viacom set August target date for merger talks, after exploring for more than a year
Both companies report earnings on Aug. 8, so the CBS and Viacom boards have set that as a natural deadline to agree to a merger. Price won't be discussed by the companies until the end of negotiations, sources say.

Merger discussions appear to be proceeding toward a resolution that could be announced possibly in the next month.
After splitting apart in 2006, CBS and Viacom, who both remain sister companies owned by Sumner and Shari Redstone, figure to re-merge to compete in a ever changing landscape. Paramount's television assets went to CBS as a result of the split.
For geek culture, this would finally bring the film and tv rights to Star Trek back under one roof. For movie buffs, CBS All Access could take advantage of its streaming service by bring Paramount’s film library to their service for its user to fall back on.
