It's more about the fact they thought a water cooled alternator would be a good idea. It's the principal of it. Even the most heavy duty vehicles have air-cooled alternators.
It was probably done as a mix of experimentation and packaging like many German makes did during the 90s. I'd be more annoyed at the electric water pump used in the N52, N54, and N55 as a poor design decision. They're tucked under the intake manifold and are made with a brushed motor so they won't last forever for one and are less reliable than a simple belt driven pump. Usually they fail at 60k miles and are around $350-400 to replace. At least hey learned and went back to belt driven water pump with the B58.

Golddiggers man. Yeesh
I wonder if he’s going to remarry later or just stay a single dad with his daughter. His daughter is from a previous wife or girlfriend iirc. hopefully he doesn’t troon out like the Mr.Beast YouTuber named Chris Tyson.

Anyways heading back towards cars, one of my family members ended up renting a newer Yukon Denali recently.
As much as I don’t like how big suvs and trucks have gotten. It rode pretty well and was comfy. I can see myself getting one in the future when they’re 20k. And slap a fat turbo on it

Well, replaced the battery in my XG350 yesterday with a good Duracell, hopefully that's the last of the repairs for a while, had to replace the power steering pump too, the old people that owned my car before were not kind to it. Now it feels it's reacting better, so I'm pretty happy :)

Yea boi, after a year of looking for the 'right' one, I'm finally picking up a Vantage next week. 2005, full service history, goldilocks miles (not too few, not too many), health check came out fine. Manual gearbox of course. This is the one I wanted, not too much power, revvyish engine (I'm coming from an S2000 so I don't know what Torque is), and GREEN .
That is a heck of a transition, from a relatively light and well balanced chassis to a somewhat ponderous in comparison borderline sports car/grand tourer. Curious to see how you think they compare because you have been quite spoiled by the S2000. My GT car experience was with an R129 and while it was great having a very comfortable but somewhat still sporty car I just wished it wasn't so slow.

Hoover out lived his entertainment value imo. He started by just buying cheap formerly expensive shit heeps and his trials and tribulations with them. It was entertaining trying to fix and drive a Bentley Continental GT on a Honda Civic budget that spent time in Russia mysteriously. Then seemingly overnight a hundred others were doing the same. Then him, tavarish and Ed Bolian literally tried to turn themselves into the Grand Tour/Top Gear trio of YouTube. Now it's like the same canned scenario every time. Buy cheap supercar, bring to Wizard, pay all the money to get it fixed, drive it, take a loss on it. I think I basically tuned out after he bought the Lambos. I believe Hoovers dad is a bad time construction name in Kansas.

I find Car Wizard more entertaining these days. No doubt Wizard owes his success to Hoovers channel taking off. He's kinda the only YouTube car stuff I watch. Sometimes I'll catch WatchJRGo but all these dopes use the same click bait video titles and thumbnails.

Unrelated, watching Rich Rebuilds eat shit legally is gonna be glorious. I do feel bad for his friend who wrecked the kit car though.
Tavarish is completely insufferable, exposure to him only made Hoover less interesting. Car wizard is a kind of odd fellow but undoubtedly runs a decent shop by the look of it, I don't watch enough but the Mrs. Wizard segments where you only hear the voice make me think of a troon or him doing a woman's voice. Really odd. Car youtube in general is pretty hard to watch, too much dumb shit. I actuallly enjoyed the recent stanceworks ferrari build because I fucking hate ferrari and ferrari purists but in true stancefag fashion the guy just keeps showing how much of tard he is saying he's "over-engineering" then doing shit like making an intercooler end tank out of thin aluminum (I think it was 16 or 14 gauge). Nobody who knows anything at all about intercoolers makes intercooler end tanks out of anything thinner than 12 gauge...

The minute I heard the phrase "water cooled alternator" I've disregarded BMWs as a viable vehicle
Water cooled alternators are also used in some Porsches, Audis, Cadillacs. I have helped replace one on a Porsche Cayenne S before and it is a packaging nightmare so you can really see why they did it, they are extremely expensive in that case. It has nothing to do with how heavy duty the vehicle is and only to do with electrical load and extremely tight packaging making it not possible to get cooling airflow to the alternator in a reasonable manner. Plenty of BMWs had air ducts going to the alternator going all the way back to the E32 and E34. Heavy trucks and the like have plenty of room for ducting or even directed air flow that can cool an alternator, a regular car or small SUV with a V8 crammed into an increasingly tight modern, engine bay not so much. Price you pay for high tech modern luxury/performance vehicles.

In the last decade or so I've owned an E-Class (2001 E430), 4c, 166, GT-R (2017), CX-5, Levante, Evora S, Stelvio, Guiletta, Smart For Two, XKR (5.0), and soon the Vantage. It was either that or an F-Type R (2014 5.0 RWD version), and I think the F-Type still has plenty to fall in value, and the rust issues caused by India being India are unforgivable.
Most of them were just to scratch an itch, or have something for a winter beater (Smart) in the snow, the only one I kept coming back to was the S2000; I just wish it had a bit more power. I've driven supercharged S2k's, but I didn't like them, mostly because they look too Fast and Furious and mine is bone stock and will always be. I've driven a number of Astons when I was looking around and the 4.3 is a nice upgrade to the S2K; yes one is a heavy lump and the chassis isn't a patch on the Honda, but the 4.3 has a nice 'you need to rev the shit out of it to get the most from it' feel that the S2K does. The 4.7 kinda lost that feeling.

And yes, I have an abusive relationship with Alfas. I really want to like them, really! They look the mutts nuts, but there's not a single one I've driven or owned that I would say is a good car to drive from a petrolhead point of view. The 4C Spyder broke me somewhere...a lightweight carbon fibre tub, minimalistic with a driver focus, then they put an engine that could set off car alarms in the morning which was fun, but had the rev limit of a fucking diesel, and a horrible automated manual tranny. Oh and the seats were agony after a couple of hours driving. It should have been the Elise of Alfas, but god they fucked it.

What ate the general thoughts on the Ford Bronco, the new one? Saw a video on it, seems the 4 cylinder version is pretty nice, and personally I like the two door look.

They look cool. People sure do get autistic about the round wheel wells vs the older squared off wheel wells. You can get the 4 cylinder paired with a manual too. I like the way the two door looks on steel wheels, but I'm probably in the minority. I like my off-roaders as basic as possible

Personally I like the 2 door honestly. Feels more like a Jeep type vehicle that way, and more maneuverable too

They're nice rigs and most early production kinks should be worked out. The 2 door version to me is like the spiritual successor to the FJ cruiser.
That's what I was thinking with the FJ Cruiser. They seem to be good in snow, considering I see them all over here in Utah, which probably means a Manual would be a good choice if and when I can afford one, even just a used one

I can't wait to pick one up in 10 years when they've bottomed out in price. The newest car I've owned was a 2005 purchased in 2019 I think

I've been considering an FJ, or a Jimmy for winter fun. Every now and again I have to climb a fucking snow covered hill and it's much easier with a proper 4x4 rather than a Chelsea Tractor. I'l love a Range Rover, but I have enough unreliable cars as it is...and I don't see an FJ or Jimmy losing value.

They have one of the most bloated lineups I have ever seen, I think there are 10 variations. Package after package after package, and easily optioned out to over 2x base price. A colleague of mine bought one late last year, 4 door badlands with the sasquatch package is all I know about the specifics of it, but it was apparently $70,000. It's nice but does not seem like $70,000 worth of vehicle in person. I don't see the point of the 2 door models unless size constrained or for extensive trail use where the shorter wheelbase is beneficial, but let's be honest these are just like jeeps; most of them will never see a trail. It's still a fairly large vehicle and 2 doors just make it less practical as a roadgoing SUV. Shame only the 4cyl is available in manual, but then again autos are superior for most off-road use and probably sell far better.

Like a lot of lifestyle cars give it a decade or two and used ones will start to be used like they were intended.

They're very good overall, especially in terms of capabilities. While I like the looks, especially of the 2 door, not everyone agrees with me on that part

What do you guys think of the dodge vipers specifically the 2013 rendition. I’m thinking of sticking with my dodge Dakota until I kill it with my heavy gas foot so I wanna make sure there’s an old dodge that’s still viable as a sport, muscle, or super car.

If you want affordable old dodge muscle buy a 4 door B body. Can be found clean for $5-10k. You'll never touch a decent viper for cheap. They are permanent collectors items

Thanks for the advice. I’ll consider it if all our gas burners aren’t replaced with the inferior lithium cars.
