Probably the best scapegoat would be Alberta leaving (followed by BC, Saskatchewan, and even Manitoba once they start being expected to pick up the slack.
A lot of jeets use Canada as basically a launchpad for the USA or Europe (easy citizenship). So if Canada becomes so bad that scammers, criminals, terrorist groups etc don't even want to come here, than we're very, very, VERY fucked here.

This has been a thing in mainstream media for a while now, at least since the Sock Boy-induced pandemic immigration bonanza. Everyone knows it's a bubble including the provincial/federal governments so you get the rigmarole of discussion which gets conveniently diverted into talk about tax exemptions, down payment grants, and loosening mortgage rules - none of which will deal with the root problems of immigration, foreign owners, and investment firms (but conveniently keeps prices edging upwards).
Funnily enough wage subsidization is something I would be fine with, if it was never permitted for foreign hires. Similar to on the job training, subsidize companies for it , and in return force them to hire actual Canadian citizens. Mind you only works if TFWs are also fully eliminated, but it's one lever that could be pulled to improve on our ludicrous employment rates. Like fast food, government subsidizes, companies are forced to hire teens/uni kids in exchange, jeets are told to go do the needful back where they belong.
