My main problem with canada focusing on allying china is that the liberals were pro-China before 2025. If Canada started looking toward china after Trump's sperg outs in 2025, I'd at least understand it even if I strongly disagree with the move. I don't think Canada should just submit completely to america, but people need to understand how Canada would get destroyed without American trade.

I genuinely bet that the cucknadian government will openly aid china if they invaded taiwan. Assuming china fails and gets humiliated which is very likely (naval invasions are much harder than land ones like in Ukraine) Canada would probably become a pariyah state like Russia is rn.

Honestly Canada is pretty much a corporatist country. Where every business and economic class is under the direct control or influence of the government. This economic system was historically associated with fascists nations like Germany and Japan. Which mean Canada, despite all the talk about the "fascist down south" is closer to a traditional fascist nation than the US is.

That is a very quick way to get a PM, a Delta Doordash. We know that China bribes MPs and their families in Canada, just like they do in the US. However, I don't think anyone is stupid enough to outright support the PRC. If the Canadian Federal government were to support the PRC in an invasion of Taiwan. We would be an ops stop, on the USAs trip to Taiwan. Most Canadian's don't realize how big the US military is, and how capable. There would be a quick bombing of government buildings, both Federal and Provincial. As well as a flattening of bases. After that they just have to seal the border and let nature take care of us.

I've noticed this too and it's so incredibly fucking weird. There's a non-insignificant number of boomers who will complain about the Indian population and their complete inability/refusal to adapt to Canadian culture, yet as soon as you suggest deportations or remigration they get cold feet and suddenly justify their presence and go "well, we need them for [xyz]".

Like, you recognize it's a problem. You understand that these people are fundamentally incompatible with Western society. But you also refuse to accept that something needs to be done about it. In the same breath they'll go from saying the most unabashedly racist thing you've ever heard about Indians to immediately doing a 180 and talking about how they're hard workers and we need them to address some imaginary labour shortage. It's fucking mind boggling to witness and I've seen this behaviour in several different boomers. This isn't your average everyday cognitive dissonance. This is advanced cognitive dissonance.

It's not just the boomers, I have millennial friends who do the same thing on every single modern issue.

They will complain about a problem, come to many correct conclusions about the source of the problem, but just at the tail end of the thought exercise it clicks to them that their team has been in charge for over a decade now and suddenly the current status quo is just how things have to be and maybe in fact since their team is in charge the issue is they just haven't doubled down enough.

Carney's speech to the WEF last Tuesday demonstrated that he had the strategic depth of a pothole despite possessing degrees from Havard and Oxford. I mean, the end of the rules-based order? No shit, Sherlock. I have a BA in English and came to that conclusion when Trump first came to office. Hindsight also told me that it went us the window after Dubya invaded Iraq in 2003 despite the world's hand wringing, but Canada sat on its ass for the last twenty years under the mistaken belief that 'Merica was always going to be the gentle giant that tolerated our nonsense.

Canada is pretty much geographically locked. Even if the United States is on the decline, their navy is dominant and their logistics chain intact. They would have complete air supremacy in hours if they decided to conquer us no holds barred and throttle our ports to deny us aid from overseas for all of Carney's yapping.

The International rules based order was having lots of money meant you could do whatever you want, live wherever you want and disregard the locals, while being backed by US military might. It was that there was no need to change lines on the map as you could just flood elections with foreign money until the right person came to power. Then you could operate with impunity. I would argue Obama was the apotheosis of this system. With Trudeau as an imitator.

The problem with this system as it requires the constant kicking out the ladder from underneath them. Which leads to discontent and as power is amassed within a small and smaller group of individuals. Those denied entry, but still have talent and drive will create competing power structures. We are in the first phase of that. Right now governments all across the west are doing everything they can to cling to power. You see it with overturning elections on flimsy pretense. The stifling and criminalization of speech. The over regulation of industry and business, with the government attempting to pick winners and losers. The flooding of nations with the third world and the stealing of tax payer money in exchange for votes.

The pressure keeps being added on and it is a slow boil. It might be a decade before things get spicy, but they will eventually.

My American friends think it's funny, but more a fringe benefit than anything. They also enjoy the impotent seething of Canadians online. But Canadians have to learn that no one cares about Canada especially our politicians. To everyone non-Canadian we are just some place with stupid dressing cops, maple syrup and beavers. In fact most people who have dealings with Canadians tend not to like us. Calling us smug, distant and passive aggressively rude.
 
I have similar questions regarding what Canada as I do with the state of the UK. What can reasonably be done? In differing ways, the UK and Canada are welfare centric export economies: For Canada, it was raw materials. For the United Kingdom (circa 1990s), it was services. Now they are both staring from the outside at would be economic empires in D.C., Beijing, and Brussels. How then can immigration supposed to even register in the political decision making process. That is not to say that mass or cultural alien immigration isn’t or at least cannot be a bad thing. But given these priorities, how would one reasonably expect a pushback to immigration policy when it keeps the economic system moving? And what would you economically replace it with? You cannot simply reverse the clock to when your countries economic trading goods (along with your people) were relevant.

I am desperately hoping to be proven wrong about these doubts, because “what about the economy” is a contemptible plea. But unless I see any evidence as to what can be done better besides “throwing them out”, I can’t shake it

I think you kind of answered your question. Canada needs to get back to resource production. Since the 90s we decided we'd be a nation of wise philosopher kings and open colleges in every town to replace the loss of factories and extractives. All it got us was infinite jeets acting as doordash drivers. Even then Canada has always been hostile to resource development due to how our elections are run. The Westminster system favours tightly packed population centers and punishes the hinterlands.

A lot of people don't realize just how underdeveloped most of Canada is. The 70s still had people living in sod houses out in the prairies. Towns in Newfoundland not getting power until the 90s. Driving through northern Ontario has always been a nightmare. The Trans Canada Highway is a single lane for most of its length across the country. We have like ten major airports it feels like and flying across the country gets harder every year. It's easier to fly to Mexico than it is to go from Edmonton to Halifax.

I guess my questions then are 1. How do you solve the problem of who would be working and 2. Do you know of any readings or sources to dive into regarding the development status of Canada?
