Canada is a failed state

I guess my questions then are 1. How do you solve the problem of who would be working and 2. Do you know of any readings or sources to dive into regarding the development status of Canada?
If the jobs are available, and the pay is right you will have people come from across the country to do it. Look at the oil sands. Look at the northern mining sector. Look at mining in general. People from across the country migrate to those areas. Then they develop, then you get the follow on industry and business that grow and develop around it.

As for reading, that gets harder. Canadian history is not well documented, in the way other nations are. Pierre Berton is an author who covered a lot of Canadian history and is a good place to start. He's been dead for twenty years and long out of print. Used bookstores might have something and maybe something like Anna's Archive. There are probably some books covering the development of Northern Ontario and the mining industry and a few for the artic as well. But like with Berton, I imagine they are long since out of print.

In fact most people who have dealings with Canadians tend not to like us. Calling us smug, distant and passive aggressively rude.
I have a friend who told me how in the Netherlands, Canadian tourists have as poor of a reputation as CHINESE TOURISTS. That...should speak for itself. (No wonder why Canadians love China so much then).
Canada is pretty much geographically locked. Even if the United States is on the decline, their navy is dominant and their logistics chain intact. They would have complete air supremacy in hours if they decided to conquer us no holds barred and throttle our ports to deny us aid from overseas for all of Carney's yapping.
The only way China cares enough about Canada to at least claim to wanna protect us is if they're REALLY desperate. I'm personally using the Canada-China relationship to see the stability of the CCP. For example, if they really need Canadian oil, to the point of forcing carney to build a pipeline, then they're cooked.

Well, we notice British Colombia exists. It's super fucking annoying that Alaska isn't connected to the continental US. Tell you what, can we agree to trade the upper peninsula of Michigan for the sliver of BC on the coast?
Isn't that peninsula like super super haunted?

And I wonder if the jeets and other immigrants to Alberta will vote for secession because they think it's an easy party to American citizenship?

probably not the best but there's 'Timber Wolves: Greed and Corruption in Northwestern Ontario's Timber Industry 1875-1960" by J.P. Bertrand, published by the Thunder Bay Museum.

Given how the previous tariff threats went strongly suspect this one is more to put further pressure on the USMCA review this year. Carney wants his EVs (that few people will actually buy)? He can - if we eliminate dairy supply management, cave on softwood lumber (probably), and open up new rare earth metal mining ventures (possibly). Trump's trade officials have been consistently signalling for a while they will play hardball and put the screws to us on free trade, and there's nothing we have to counter it. Watching Carney have to square the circle of keeping both the US and Quebec happy when pleasing one involves pissing off the other is going to be a joy to watch this year.
Watching Canada get strung up in the reborn world of hard knocks is both hilarious and infuriating. Hilarious that their mean girl bullshit makes them look like complete fucking fools. Infuriating because we get to bear the consequences.

Fuck me it's so bad I bought 3 chicken breasts for 15 bucks yesterday. But all I hear is "well prices are going to go up, so what?"
It's not just the boomers, I have millennial friends who do the same thing on every single modern issue.

They will complain about a problem, come to many correct conclusions about the source of the problem, but just at the tail end of the thought exercise it clicks to them that their team has been in charge for over a decade now and suddenly the current status quo is just how things have to be and maybe in fact since their team is in charge the issue is they just haven't doubled down enough.
That's the state Yuri Bezmonov describes. They are programmed to think a certain way. And it is unfortunately almost impossible to actually reverse.

I keep hearing war with China in 2027.
There isn't going to be a war with China because China doesn't want wars.

The entire raison d'être of the CCP is to control China and maintain harmony and prosperity within China. Offensive war contradicts both goals. I think this whole "East vs. West" neurosis to which some people prescribe is a farce. The biggest enemy of the common person in the West is the corporate leaders, the lobbying groups, the banks, and the bureaucracy. Blaming foreign powers is a way to shift blame.

After being outside of the country for so long, the prices have become inconceivable to me. I buy an entire week's worth of groceries for less than 15 dollars. I had the same reaction when reminded of how expensive Canadian telecom bills are earlier in the thread.

Do even know what Victoria and Vancouver are like?

Wtf are you paying per lb? Is that organic free range or something? Normal basic bitch boneless chicken is $4/lb here without any sales at all. It regularly goes on sale for $2/lb.
I live near a metro so I tend to shop there mostly (the in-store 'fresh' food department's are a pretty nice benefit, but fuck is everything overpriced) & even the in store ground beef has gone up by around $4 on average since last year

It's not the biggest jump being in Ontario & all, but it still went from being between $16-20 to now regularly costing $20-24 for the same weight.
I used to be able to find trays for as low as $12 on discount sometimes & now at best they'll go down to the old price range

Wonder how much the Liberals are paying the bots on social media to amplify the "positivity" behind Carney's speech at Davos. Six years ago the WEF was a hoax/conspiracy theory, now it is home to fascist resistance with Carney as the figurehead. As I scan X all I see is the Liberal sock accounts praising the speech in almost an identical fashion. "It will go down in the history books", "It is one of the most influential speeches of the 21st Century", "Mark Carney is the leader of the opposition against American Imperialism". This guy is nothing but astroturfed.

My mom literally just was calling Carney a the "hero of the wef" lmfao. These people really think that the technocrat they "elected" as PM really is their knight in shining armor who will slay the dragon of "authoritarianism" .

Kind of the whole reason why Trump is going to ROFLstomp Canada to make a teachable moment for the rest of the world. Maybe it goes from 100% tariff down to just 50% but the effect would be the same, just taking a bit longer.

Carney's speech to the WEF last Tuesday demonstrated that he had the strategic depth of a pothole despite possessing degrees from Havard and Oxford.

The Brits that watched Carney try to destroy England insist he's quite intelligent. You would have to be to last 13 years at Goldman Sachs become BoE, BoC, ,CEO of Brookfield, pull Trudeau's strings from the shadows for 5 years and then become the PM etc.

So you know what he did was completely intentional. Canadians have normalized incompetence to such a degree everyone says "well he's just an idiot like us" that made a mistake. Guy like that don't make mistakes. And if he did it wouldn't be on the world stage at the political and business event of the year. It would be a mistake like forgetting to mention a few hundred million dollars in personal income.

Still makes me kek to this day.
>Liberals
> Hates how governments bailout corporations, rich people get richer, muh establishment, etc etc.
>Elects a fucking banker lmao

I never said that he was not intelligent, but I see Carney as having one similar personality flaw Trudeau had: ego. Despite having a more stoic and serious demeanor, Carney is still an arrogant prick who believes that he deserves to manipulate the system because he has the credentials and glad-handed the right people. It would not surprise me if he believes that he can outmaneuver both the United States and China so that he could secure Canada himself a better deal. The problem is that you can only press your luck so far as Uncle Sam was already starting to tire of Canada's flakiness on security under Biden.

If we want to approach this from a cynical lens, the Liberals appear to be leveraging the China deal and Trump completely-foreseeable response to call a spring election and position itself for a majority. I mean, Canadians are such braindead rabble that it brought the Liberal Party back from oblivion last year. However, the problem is that Canada is fraying at the edges and we have discussed here ad infinitum. As @OutInTheRain stated, we have at least five years before things get spicy. The real estate bubble is in danger of bursting, mass immigration as social cohesion deteriorates, and Quebec is talking about separation while the West flirts with the idea, etc.

Compounding this is Ottawa's lack of coercive power and waning institutional legitimacy. The Liberal Party survived multiple scandals through procedural manipulation (e.g. calling the 2021 election to avoid answering for the Winnipeg leak scandal), but that is corrosive over time as it demonstrates to those with actual reasoning skills that there is no accountability within the system. Then there is the Tamara Lich/Chris Barber trial where the fed prosecuted a mischief (the barest minimum of crime) case for years because of the Convoy humiliation while the courts give violent criminals like murderers and rapists the kid gloves. Add the fact that the Canadian and American markets are deeply integrated and the United States shoulders the burden for continental defense, which leaves me to wonder, "Is Canada even a legitimate country anymore?"

Carney's made his millions so he doesn't really care about this question. However, what men like him do like is power because credentials mean that he has a quasi-divine divine right to rule like the absolutist monarchs of the seventeenth and eighteenth century. My read on him is that he loves the positions he held slightly more than the wealth he generated because they insure that he can use procedure to increase it. The spanner in the works is if and when the United States tires of the games this country has been playing since the days of Pierre Trudeau.

It's mildly refreshing to go on the various Socials and seeing more and more Anti-Liberal posting. Especially when most of the comments are near word for word bot comments trying to shoot it down - seriously, I could make a drinking game out of how quickly the comments call the poster a Nazi.

I legitimately wonder some days just how much of my taxes go to bot farms - look I'm stuck here, I'm just along for the ride at this point, let me have my laughs when I can.

If you've read his book, this is exactly what he believes. When he talks about "Values" he means top down imposition of will against the market desires and the will of the people. He uses much more flowery language to disguise it. But he's still a 'Master of the Universe' finance guy in the mold of Larry Fink. Where he believes that enough pressure and financial incentive, in the right places for long enough and you can create the globo-homo version of the new socialist man. Of course he doesn't spend his money, he spends everyone else's money. Specifically pension money. We've seen this fail over and over again in entertainment, and frankly the rest of the world is moving past it.

Carney wants his majority really badly. He would like it by the summer, so he has some breathing room when they fuck up USCMA and hopefully in 4 years the voters forget just how awful it will be. He also wants four years of autocratic governance to do whatever the fuck he wants. Which will not be good for anyone. The Liberal party was literally bribing everyone they could, promising them the moon. In the end only two took the bait. One most likely on the orders of China. Watch and see what they get for a post political career and you will see what the payoff was.

Carney is the final form of the Liberal party. Importing talent from elsewhere to rule over the Canadian economic zone like a king to ensure global corporate needs are met. He will not live in Canada after he is done. He will move to somewhere in Europe where he is safe from all the brown people they imported and gets to live around people just like him.
