The tariffs are the chemotherapy this country needs. Canadian politics have been stuck in the ice for years, this is the flamethrower that will hopefully (:optimistic:) cause actual changes to the political landscape. Blackpillers and bootlickers need to register for MAID immediately!

I don't want to see Canada subsumed by America I value the Canadian history and heritage. Visiting America as a tourist I always get the vibe that America is the land scams and schemers and I don't want that for Canada.

It's called making a deal, show some respect for Sleeping Giant's concerns down South and they won't apply their leverage to fuck our shit up. The Dutch guy in the thread earlier made this point and it's correct. The Netherlands are surrounded by the UK, Germany and France you don't go around antagonizing Germany if you want to remain independent (same deal with Ukraine and Russia)

Canada used to be a country, but the reality is that it has been an American vassal for the past couple of decades.

Yes there is nothing that would have stopped the tariffs because the Government (including the opposition and provincial governments) aren't taking it seriously. You don't try to go tit for tat with a sleeping giant. You find someway to outsmart him (outsmart doesn't mean threaten him with 1 for 1 tariffs).
