Britney Spears was arrested for a DUI on Wednesday night in Ventura County, Calif., Variety has confirmed.

The singer was handcuffed by the California Highway Patrol around 9:30 p.m. and booked early Thursday morning around 3 a.m. According to an arrest record, she has since been released and is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.

“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life,” a representative for Spears said in a statement. “Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”

The statement continued, “Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”

Spears recently sold her song catalog and an unclear number of other rights to Primary Wave. In January, she wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post that she “will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons.”

She continued, “But I hope to be sitting on a stool with a red rose in my hair, in a bun, performing with my son… in the UK and AUSTRALIA very soon.”

In that Instagram post, Spears shared a throwback photo of herself sitting next to a white Yamaha piano, beginning the caption with: “Sending this piano to my son this year!!! Interestingly enough, I dance on IG to heal things in my body that people have no idea about. Yup and it’s embarrassing sometimes… but I walked through the fire to save my life.”

Spears was released from her 13-year conservatorship in 2021 and has largely kept a low profile since then. The pop superstar has not released an album since 2016’s “Glory,” and she last performed live in the U.S. in 2018, when she closed out her “Piece of Me” tour with a show at the Formula One Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. She had been scheduled to return to Las Vegas in 2019 for a second residency, “Domination,” but she ultimately postponed the show and stepped away from performing indefinitely.

The videos she posts now are unhinged. She looks absolutely manic and soulless in them, really odd. Hope she finds some sort of peace eventually, she is a victim of Hollywood through and through.

I’m amazed it took this long for her to get picked up for a DUI. Back in October she was filmed driving while obviously trashed but she’s been drinking (or getting high) and driving for way longer than that.

Fuuuck, TMZ got big time clicks out of this. 6 articles out of this story in one day.

But I'll get the archive links and notable quotes:

Britney Spears may be in trouble for more than just allegations of drinking and driving ... TMZ has learned.

Sources familiar with the investigation tell TMZ ... in addition to suspicion of DUI, there was also an unknown substance found in her car, which will be part of the arrest.

We're told the substance is now being tested.

As we reported, Spears was arrested for DUI last night in California, and was released from jail around 6 AM today, according to Ventura County inmate records.
Britney Spears was allegedly swerving from lane to lane prior to her DUI arrest ... this according to police dispatch audio.

According to the audio, a 2026 black convertible was driving in and out of lanes and speeding ... and an officer can be heard asking for the dispatcher to "send all units down towards this area please."

An officer later says they are speaking with the car's driver, who has stepped out of the vehicle.

Page Six was first to report on the audio.

At one point, an officer requests a DRE -- Drug Recognition Expert -- who is trained to conduct field sobriety evaluations. It's unclear whether a field sobriety test was actually performed at the scene ... but Britney was ultimately transported to the hospital, where her blood was drawn.
Britney's manager Cade Hudson tells TMZ, "This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time."

Cade adds, "Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being."
Quoting the whole thing for this because it didn't really need to be a separate article:

Britney Spears 'Crying A Lot' at Jail During DUI Booking

Britney Spears was “crying” while being booked in jail for alleged driving under the influence, TMZ has learned.

Sources tell TMZ that Britney was very emotional while being processed at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday night. We’re told she did not act out of the ordinary ... aside from “crying a lot.”

As TMZ first reported, the pop star was arrested for DUI Wednesday at 9:30 PM ... and later booked at 3:02 AM. She was released at 6:07 AM today.
(this is already covered in the OP)
Britney Spears is showing more signs of turmoil following her DUI arrest ... because her Instagram account has suddenly been deactivated.

Search for Britney’s page now and you’ll be met with the generic message, "Sorry, this page isn't available. The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed."

It’s unclear if Britney pulled the plug herself or if the account was taken down for another reason.

The disappearance is a big deal -- Britney’s IG has long been her main outlet, especially in recent years as she’s posted her signature solo dance videos from inside her L.A.-area home.

In fact, the last clip she uploaded was just yesterday -- showing her dancing hours before she was pulled over around 9:30 PM.

I will just repost this here

Poor Britney Spears. She didn't have a damn chance. Just goes to show that all the money in the world can't fix an awful childhood, evil family, or years of abuse when nobody around you really gives a shit about your well-being. Such a sad story all around.

The videos she posts now are unhinged. She looks absolutely manic and soulless in them, really odd. Hope she finds some sort of peace eventually, she is a victim of Hollywood through and through.

For real. The stills I see from her more recent videos actually creep me out. Her eyes scare me, and we all know that the eyes never lie. She actually has crazy eyes, and people are straight up lying if they say they don't see it too.

What's weird is that the Free Britney people defended those videos for the longest time until recently. They were like "She's just expressing herself! Just let her be!" They were in complete denial of her mental state.

Both of these things can be true: That Britney needed to get out of the conservatorship controlled by her abusive family, and that Britney might need a conservatorship. The problem is that, like I said in another one of my posts in this thread, it appears that she doesn't have anyone around her who actually wouldn't take advantage of her.

I seriously doubt that her story will reach a happy ending, I'm afraid.

EDIT:

Also, over the past week I've been hearing things about Britney's older brother? Her older brother's ex is making some strong allegations-- about how the brother is the one supplying meth to Britney and how he drugs her up at parties and lets some nasty stuff happen to her at those said-parties. Again, allegations, but are we really going to fully dismiss it when we know how devoid of humanity or anything resembling decency the entertainment industry is?

I think that the "Free Britney" movement didn't think about the aftermath of Britney being "set free."

You don't suffer from that kind of control and abuse for over a decade and just get over it overnight. You need extensive help and resources to recover. Britney could literally be the most stable person in the world and still need help after something like that happening to her. And we all know that she wasn't in a healthy mental space before the conservatorship.

Again, I don't truly know if she needed the conservatorship when it started ... But I don't think that anyone can disagree that Britney needed some kind of genuine help (and still needs it).

Britney was left to her own devices completely directionless after the conservatorship ended ... And I don't think she has a single person in her life that actually cares about her best interests.

Very sad.
Either way you go, people would get mad. If they got another conservator they would get mad at her still being under control, if she's let go, she has to learn to stand on her own two feet after decades of someone controlling her. She's screwed up for life Im afraid.

Britney likely has schizoaffective disorder and bipolar disorder. She’s an active drug abuser with more money than sense and has had opportunities to both get sober and get stable that are denied to far less harmful, reckless nobodies. She has enough wealth to buy a ranch, buy an island even, and live out her days in health and wellness, wanting for nothing. But she refuses to take any responsibility for herself.

She abused her sons, even hitting one with her security guard’s belt. She bleached their hair as toddlers because she wanted them blond like mommy, it caused burns on their scalps (this is part of the custody docs.) Former staff report that she’s been sexually inappropriate with at least one of them (the provocative near nude dancing.) She drives drunk around LA all the time and then claims it wasn’t her fault, it wasn’t even her driving.

She is, forgive the phrase, toxic.

Keep in mind, this is just the latest 3 pages with "Britney," with some entries omitted.
Christ alive, put that woman in a 90-day inpatient program under an assumed name or something, she needs a clean break bad. Whole 9, take her phone away, no leaving the facility, internal recovery meetings only, the works.

The problem comes back in force when she's let out. She needs to be declared mentally incompetent and put away somewhere or at least watched over by a neutral agency.

I mean sure, it's especially hard for rehab to stick with celebrity addicts b/c they're less likely to have the same kind of material consequences for their use, but sleeping downstairs because it's too risky to attempt to make it to the bedroom is some end-stage addiction shit.

If you check TMZ articles on her instagram posts they still defend her. Hell TMZ still cover those posts as if it’s just Britney being silly and not a mentally disturbed woman in a drug induced psychosis constantly.
