A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

On that note, did any of you have your local practise phone you up to schedule for your microchip embedding?
How did you say no? I just said "Not interested, thanks." and hung up.

I haven't heard anything from my GP practice, I don't even think they're doing vaccinations there. I got a random text from the NHS telling me I should book an apt, and then a week or so later I got a physical letter saying it as well.

I've received few texts and physical letters over about 4 weeks period, ignored these, but then got a bit pissed, as they never hounded me so much for stuff I really needed, so checked the link in the text. It turns out there is a refusal option, so went with that and marked "I don't want to" when the list of reasons popped up. They are not giving up so easily though, as I got another text about a week ago. I'm salty thinking about all the times I was trying to contact them for valid health scares and didn't even get "kiss my elbow".

No phone calls, but they did text me once. It looked like a scam text because they're incompetent nitwits.

Shits on fire yo
I wouldn't be entirely surprised if it turned out to be those XR faggots or some other eco group trying to stay relevant. Probably just poor maintenance, though.

That's probably always on fire

Joking aside, there's apparently a garage and some restaurants under that station, it's probably some dumbarse in there

It's pretty unlikely, but XR is so fucking utterly dumb I can't rule out them doing pretty much anything at this point.

Fair point, but "I figured shit's on fire yo" is simpler and catchier than the, admittedly, more correct alternative of "shits even more on fire than is normal for the shithole that is London, yo"

Apparently in the run-up to this week's by-election somebody is leafleting houses fraudulently claiming this to be official Labour Party material:

Of course this type of behaviour should be discouraged. Having said that, Labour DOES support this type of stuff, and Keir Starmer DID take the knee, they just don't advertise it as they understand it's a vote loser. At this point I wonder what the reaction will be since for all the pundits decrying Tories for 'stoking a culture war' Boris and co. wouldn't have such an oven-ready deflection if Labour stopped taking actions that only serve to make millions quietly hate them.

Keir Starmer has totally failed in renewing the party's brand. Labour continue to lose the centre while also failing to cleanse itself of the Corbyn wing (whilst simultaneously making war on it).
The Batley and Spen by-election isn't going well for Labour, although in this particular instance, I'm more inclined to blame other, toxic elements within the campaign than the Labour Party themselves. The Labour candidate, Kim Leadbeater (the sister of murdered MP Jo Cox), comes across as a thoroughly decent person, and unlike some of the candidates I could mention, she's at least from the area.

If Labour loses the by-election, polls indicate that it will most likely be down to George Galloway entering the race, with his divisive, sectarian campaign attempting to court the constituency's not insignificant Muslim vote. Recently, Leadbeater was harassed and forced to retreat to her car by a group of men insinuating that she supported "LGBT indoctrination" in schools, and Labour activists have reportedly been kicked and pelted with eggs while out campaigning.

Remember that this is the constituency where a teacher was recently suspended and forced to go into hiding following an outcry about him reportedly showing a cartoon of Muhammad in a religious education class. Put in that context, it's perhaps to be expected that this by-election would end up becoming this divisive.

I have sympathy for the activists and the individual candidate. Unfortunately Labour as a party embraced identity politics and as such cannot now turn around and whine about being punished for it by the wrong accusers. Were this a mob of white men they'd be shrieking till the end of time. Bunch of people speaking for impacted Muslims and the game doesn't work anymore.

The homophobic Muslim issue is a ticking timebomb and will only lead to violence and death unfortunately

Engelel lost the Euro Final today because their manager literally and unironically subbed in two ngubus. Who went on to miss in the penalty shootout. All three ngubus missed, so much for all that BLM kneeling.

Many English femoids will be beaten in the Norf and Souf. And BLM is now Blacks Lose Matches.

It's not coming home, it's going to Rome.

Also one ngubu was publicly buck broken by the captain of the Spaghetti niggers.

How does it feel?
Was diversity your strenght?
Well the media have latched onto the fact that the 3 players who missed penalties are black... So that's definitely going to be the story, as they go looking for examples of 'hate' that they can blow up into a story.

Most stuff I have seen online are people slating the manager. And other people demanding that any demeaning remarks about specifically the black players be reported.

They're going to get stick people, they literally missed the penalty. That's tradition. You fuck up in penalties you get it in the neck because it is entirely you to blame. Of course that it goes to penalties means a more nuanced take is that everyone is to blame but people loaded with booze and disappointment blasting off social media posts (or headlines) do not want nuance at that moment.
