A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It’s been an open secret that’s where the money is being funnelled. If I recall correctly they received a hearty chunk of change in Covid relief funds and most of that vanished as well.
Yep. And some branches of it applied for and received the Covid business support despite not qualifying.

They'll still win their elections and remain in power. Which is a shame because if someone else got in there's a chance some of the financial irregularities could be properly opened up to the light of day and would I suspect be hilarious reading.

Could you make a short summary? You know, for the kids/thread.
From what I understand basically the party have financial issues and are accused of committing common fraud by pretending they were raising money for a future referendum when they were really paying off a loan.

It starts off in 2016 when lottery winners loaned them £500,000 each during the Scottish election, the year after when the Conservatives called a general election (Post Brexit referendum) the SNP started a fundraiser for a second independence referendum which they specifically stated was ring fenced, the fundraiser suddenly closed half way through on the day after the election and was reported to have raised £482,000 yet somehow later in the year the party showed to have a grand total of £7906 in the bank (Full document here), earlier in the month records on the Electoral Commission showed they had paid off the loans so where did the raised money that’s supposed to be ring fenced for a future independence referendum go?

As well as that there’s some other sleazy goings on:

Also the CEO of the SNP party is Nicola Sturgeon’s husband so they are able to keep the inner workings of the party quite obfuscated.

I don’t really keep up with this usually so there might be more going on too.

“Third wave incoming” people up to the age of 30 are being vaccinated now. That third wave isn’t going to happen no matter how big a hard on they have for it.

They're falling over their own narrative at this point.

In one article they say very very low numbers of people in hospital with covid have had two vaccinations, and those that are have underlying health conditions... which means the most vulnerable are still vulnerable after the vaccination.

Then they say vaccinations are causing a drop in the infected, but not a drop in cases. Are the vaccines doing anything?

Now they're saying extend the restrictions by a few weeks, based on what? BJ said the data would drive the restriction easing (note they never said removal, only easing...). Yet they basing extensions on a possibility, that maybe, there's a chance that the science could potentially point to a third wave.

At this point in time I'm hoping that this is all just a big build up of tensions, just to remove restrictions on June 21st, as a push to 'thank the science'

Video here. I recommend watching it for the context. Slurred student age patrons seem to be the pub's primary audience (I even saw one with a fucking animal ear headband). The pub's basically cheaped out on door staff and hired a drag act for the night instead. My money says they're not there most nights, it's just a mild advertising gimmick that given how Nottingham is probably works quite well.

I find the students providing their reviews at around the 1:10 mark more annoying than what appears to be an old school drag queen rather than someone's gender identity.

A third wave is probably going to happen because the cases have rose drastically over the last few days but barely anyone is getting hospitalised or dying so it isn't nearly as deadly this time around, I don't see any point in delaying it. If they absolutely have to, they can just enforce local lockdowns in areas of concern like Bolton until they die down again.

Report that the vaccines are working
Report no deaths from covid
report less hospitalisations

Ask more people to get tested
More tests come back positive
Ask for more lockdowns

Drug Dealers caught after using hard shoulder to undertake police on the M6.

That is beautiful, only made better by watching the video through to the ending where, offender's car pulled over and the police arresting them, white van man who they almost ran into earlier goes sailing calmly past as though it's just another day. Clearly had a job on.
