A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

And just as predicted GCSE grades jump up by quite a margin on this "oh all my students are perfect deserve a 9 (A*) honest" marking scheme. Honestly all this crowing from the teacher lobby has just about out the final nail in the coffin of teachers being taken seriously.

This whole results thing has got me narked. There's a big difference between being judged by your teacher to be capable of getting an A*, and actually achieving one.

There's also this angle that "poor kids were the worst affected". In reality, it's like no shit if you send your kid to a posh public school with better teachers and facilities and smaller class sizes, they're going to do better than at an inner city comp. Why are we pretending they're going to produce the same results? Every parent knows that's not true. It's why these public schools charge so much and why parents are clamouring to send their sprogs there.

There is also the reverse. Some people (me) pull their finger out of their ass when it's the real exam. I recall getting Cs and the odd B for predicted grades for GCSEs, yet come finals, worked my ass of and aced a lot of them with As and A*s. I'm sure I can't be the only one who decides to get real when it comes to actual exams

The whole "everyone should get an A because we think they can get one is the definition of a participant trophy. Some A students drop the ball/slack for the actual exam while others rise. The" it affects poor kids"is just commie twaddle. As you said, no shit that top schools produce better results, that's why people pay and fight hard to get their kid in.

This whole grade alteration thing is a complete mess.

Salman Abedi's brother given 55 year minimum prison sentence for his role in the MEN Arena bombing.

This is apparently the longest determinate prison sentence ever given out in UK courts.

Note that prisoners are usually let out halfway through so he'll only serve 22.5 years.
They could have easily given him a full life sentence but they didn't

Ackshuallee...

They couldn't. Something about not being allowed to give crooks full life sentences if they're under 21.

I also believe he's not even going to have parole considered until those 55 years are up.

What happens with 'good behaviour' faggotry and Labour governments, I do not know though.

This is going to absolutely fuck next year's university applicants. There are going to be very few places left on some courses after this year's are getting given offers to start next year.

Someone needs to grow some balls and say "I'm sorry the pandemic screwed up your future plans but shit happens and it has screwed a lot of shit for a lot of people."

I did the same. I got all Es and Fs on my course work and mocks because fuck being assed with that noise then ended up with all A and A*.

This was back in the good old days were coursework meant very little but then they increased the weighting of it significantly because "it's unfair on girls as boys do better in exams" then kept going even after girls were easily outperforming boys. I can only guess how bad the gender differences on this year's GCSEs and A-levels are. We won't hear anything because it will be biased "in the right direction".

It doesn't help when the news focuses on the results of posh white blonde girls or the young Pakis pushed by their parents.

38% got an A or A*, jesus wept. Could they devalue it any more?

Just you wait. In a few years it'll be like those efficiency ratings you get for houses, with a A++++ top rating in green, and a lowly A+ shown in a disconcerting yellow.
You see the same with degrees now. Back in the 70's and 80's, a 2:2 was standard. If you came out with a 2:2 and didn't drop out, that was seen as decent and could net you a decent job. 2:1s were uncommon and Firsts were rare as rocking horse shit.

Now 2:1 is standard, with 2:2s being considered "didn't put effort in" and Firsts seem to be somewhat common. Everyone goes to university now, so the undergraduate is no longer seen as much, with a lot of people doing jobs that don't require a degree anyways. Now you have to invest more money in going postgrad to net a good job. Honestly going back to the old apprenticeships seem like a good idea. Universities are meant to be places where academic research goes on. Now they are just indoctrination centres and a degree is another hoop to jump through in a long list of hoops to get a good paying job.

tbh even back in the Nineties a 2:2 was considered a “did not try” degree. Given the spectacular amount of handholding most current undergrads seem to need, want or demand, I’m reasonably confident a lower second in most subjects correlates to a subpar level of effort.

I won’t speak for the hard sciences as I know certainly by postgrad level, an experiment that just doesn’t go how you planned can get your grade hammered. So, I’m sure someone else with STEM scars will chime in to confirm the same shit can happen at undergrad. But I have had to explain to too many shocked undergrads that no, I will not summarise the content of the fucking required reading for them, and I will give them a zero grade for seminar participation if they don’t fucking participate, to believe that everyone getting a 2:2 has knocked their pan in to get it.

If you want a real laugh about degree marks they reduced the requirements for high school teachers in the harder to recruit subjects to a third. You can get <50% on your degree and end up being a teacher. I know someone who scraped a third in a biology degree because they're a homeopathy is best, yoga fixes everything idiot and is now a biology high school teacher. Meanwhile I'm a STEM PhD at a large company and won't even consider a CV without at least a first and masters when it turns up in my inbox (from a fresh grad, I'm not going to turn away someone with a 2:1 and 5 years relevant experience).

People crying all over the news about their "ruined" trips to France. "Oh we had to cut it short and rush to get back why didn't we get more notice". What's did you want Karen? 2 month's notice enough for you? I'm sure the virus would have given us that time to get ready. If we asked nicely. Personally I'm all for zero notice, you know the risk when you go and it's not like someone returning after 4am is less risk than someone returning now. It's not like they're going to cut your legs off, it's only fucking 14 days sat around the house, half of you do that everyday except signing on day.

Bit of a powerlevel, but was amusing to see all the fuckers scrambling out of the hotel I was staying at in Metz. I stayed for the rest of my holiday to the 19th as I was only going around abandoned 100+ year old Franco-Prussian forts and Maginot Line stuff in the area. Came off the ferry at Dover with no-one checking contact forms etc, and all the other cars immediately went to nearby petrol stations and MaccyD's.
Doing the 14 day quarantine, but none of the goose-stepping morons have come to check on me yet...

The Guardian have DMCA'd the Guardian Meme app, which gave us such hits as

It seems to have been coordinated with Jess Philips, last month she tweeted that she was getting death threats due to 'FAKE NEWS'!!!!

The guy that runs the grauniad parody account tweeted this a couple of days ago

I think the Guardian were hoping that he'd get caught up in the Twitter comedy purge but he apparently survived, so they're doing the job themselves.
