A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Eurgh. Not liking walkers cheese and onion has to be some sort of capital crime.
If you want good vinegar crisps though, market deli's balsamic vinegar is the fucking tits. I also like disco's because the acid is so potent it can burn your tounge if you pour the powder from the bag onto it.
In general, market deli has good crisps (And their pita chips are fucking good too). Mackies has some good flavours too (I like their crinkle cut ones with paprika, honey mustard and bacon).
If you want BBQ flavours, I always went crazy for pringles BBQ when I was a child around the 2000's although I haven't had it in ages so they could have toned it down.
There's also walkers bugles which are technically corn snacks and look cheap as hell but the BBQ flavour is not to be underestimated.

Mackies Flamegrilled Aberdeen Angus. Superb

What the hell is this nonsense, I thought it was a joke article at first. I swear this kind of stuff is more and more prominent on BBC to the point most of the top feed/articles are ridiculous culture war bollocks some days. When are we defunding the BBC? Or better yet force them to open comments on articles so they can get torn apart.

Has a single black trans person been murdered by someone who wasn't black?

We let them in from the Empire after WWII to rebuild our bombed out cities.

Thanks Hitler(!)
And yet you let them stay after the job was done, and decided to let even more in afterwards. Your biggest mistake was letting in the Pakistanis: you would have probably assimilated the rest eventually, but Islam is incapable of assimilation unless its beaten into submission.

The mayor of Leicester and his council buddies need slapping from on high by central government and PHE. If they cuck out and don't extend a local lock down then every Labour council in the country will just refuse to abide by any future lockdowns to put the whole thing back on the Tories. Remember it doesn't matter if people die, the important bit is they made the Tories look bad.

Let’s never tell them when the Covid outbreak is over, just leave them in perpetual lockdown like those Japs in the jungle who didn’t know the war was over.
Or announce it, but pronounce it like it's clearly spelled so no one realizes.

#SuperSpreaderSaturday is trending because the pubs are re-opening. Guess now the BLM protests are over we're suddenly concerned about people being out in public again
Now if only BoJo would ban Cheese & Onion Walkers crisps from pubs nationwide.

I don't think it's going to be as big a deal as some pearl clutchers are expecting. I was psyched to finally go to the pub after so long, but it's pouring down today so I'm thinking fuck it I'll stay in. I can have a beer and watch the footy at home. Imagine a lot of other people will be the same.

I'm honestly not surprised in the slightest. All my normie mates were going on about how important the lockdowns were and how stupid the yanks are for protesting it - then the BLM shit happened, and they all went out to protest so they could look good. And now they've gone straight back to stressing how important lockdowns are. It's fucking tiresome.
