A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Bring back mounted yeomen on horseback with sabers. If there was a chance of them getting their scalps flensed off their heads by some screaming fop on a horse, they wouldn't do this shit.

I never thought the world needed a license to use a bike until I saw how they were acting on a road, just a matter of time before they die or kill someone else from acting like right twats going all over the road like that.

Hope they get arrested, also chavey wiggers not just nogs in the video
I genuinely hate chavs more than I do niggers. Just something about them infuriates me to no end

You know, this shit doesn't happen nearly as often in places where people are armed and will just shoot the fucking street apes.
Even the black people are worse in the U.K
Oh please, it's so common in the US to have flashmobs of blacks attacking in malls/festivals/etc. that the news actively tries to suppress it. There was one at the Wisconsin State fair.

Except there are so many less black people in the U.K and even less garbage black neighborhoods/cities. They produce a disproportionate amount of ooga booga compared to the U.S and they don't even have an excuse.

One man shouts : 'You little chavvy f***ers... go learn how to use the f***ing road.'

But a youth replies: 'You're calling us chavvy? You live in Brighton.'

He isn't wrong.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to shoot someone just for being on a bicycle.

The officer, 28, remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition after being stabbed in the head. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. His family have been informed and are receiving support from Metropolitan police family liaison officers.
Scotland Yard said the officer was seriously injured but would recover. He had attempted to stop a van suspected of having no insurance in Leyton just after midnight on Thursday. The officer, who has about a decade of experience, managed to use his Taser despite being brutally injured in the “sudden and brutal” assault which lasted just seconds.

Witness Muhammad Faisal said he and his family were woken by the noise outside their flat and saw up to 15 police cars and an ambulance.

The West Ham fan from Grays in Essex has been branded the 'hardest cop in Britain' after he managed to Taser and arrest his attacker who pulled the giant blade when he was stopped in his car because it was allegedly not insured.

Police have warned trolls who mocked a drug dealer’s haircut, that they could be prosecuted for harassment.

A mugshot issued by officers for Jermaine Taylor, 21, from Newport, Wales attracted a staggering 76,000 comments, poking fun at his bonce.

Taylor is wanted by police on recall to prison.

He was released on licence after being jailed for three years for being concerned in supplying cocaine after being sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court in September 2017.

However, he breached the terms of his licence conditions upon his release, and officers had hoped that releasing a picture of him would help them find him.

But instead, thousands of people have taken to social media to mock his unusual hairdo.

One Facebook user posted: ‘That hairline goes further back than Woolworths.’

While Matt Price added: ‘Push his release date back further than his hairline, that should teach him.’

Lea Hook said: ‘He was last seen in town; police are combing the area’, while Lawrie Hillman joked: ‘He’s vanished into thin hair.’

CJ Forde added: ‘That hairline been pushed back more times than Brexit’.

Gwent police, who didn’t see the funny side of the comments, said: ‘Please remember that harassing, threatening and abusing people on social media can be against the law.

‘Our advice is to be as careful on social media as you would in any other form of communication.

‘If you say something about someone which is grossly offensive or is of an indecent, obscene or menacing character, then you could be investigated by the police.’

Their post was then mocked by hundreds of Facebook users.

Daniel Knox-Hewson posted: ‘Can’t work out what’s thinner. This guy’s hair or Gwent police’s skin?’

James Fisher joked: ‘You already lost one criminal. Keep ya hair on.’

Oh Europe. Never change.
