A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Dude. Fucking dude... This is pure evil. How is anyone okay with this? English people, what the hell? Where's the protest? Where's the outrage? How can anyone in your country tolerate this?

Could have been anyone involved in her medical treatment who wanted to. Tards get raped even if just on their inability to consent grounds on the regular. Women in comas get raped and some of them end up giving birth because who the fuck checks if the woman who has been in a coma for 3 years and isn't showing outward signs of pregnancy has as bun in the oven. Also, yeah it was probably her uncle or some shit because Nigerians.

That is legitimately horrifying. No amount of Pride in me being American makes me feel better about this. England... What the fuck. Seriously. We have had like ten threads from the UK with horrid shit like this in the last week. Where's the British/UK prefix?

If there wasn't a rule against having threads for entire countries, I'd say the UK would easily become the biggest horrorcow around.
 
On one hand, I do not like the mentally handicapped or severely bonkers having children. But to force a person against their will, whom has a support system mind you, to get an abortion? This situation brings a new perspective to my opinion of eugenics and ethics. Is there any confirmation that the baby would be born with deficiencies? If the fetus is healthy, then don't fucking abort it.
 
Reminder that literal, actual Nazis would do the exact same thing, this Judge is getting a special place in Hell that's guaranteed. I feel so awful for this Woman and the child who never got to experience life. Fuck Britain.
 
This is fucked up, seriously. I've always opposed abortion except in extreme cases but this is what happens if you allow abortion in a nation where they feel it's more logical to ban porn and guns

How the FUCK is this pro-choice, in any way, shape, or form? I'm liberal as hell, I consider myself a moderate leftist, and this has me royally pissed off.
This is right up there with forced sterilization of the mentally ill (and in the past, mental illness was fairly broadly defined). Her mother would be taking care of the kid, she'd probably be more of a sibling to it. Either that, or it would be given up for adoption.

It really irks me when people forget the whole "choice" part of pro-choice.
 
If this was happening to a black person in the USA it would be all over the news and thousands of people would be marching in the streets protesting and protesting at the hospital
