A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Her body, her choice. If she didn't want the abortion, she should have the right to decline.

I suppose the concern is if the child would be raised properly because of her child like mind, but isn't that why we have adoption or regulations for that? Shit, I don't know.

Even if the pregnant woman has difficulty taking care of her own self, I don't see why the baby could be adopted after its born.
There was zero reason for that not to happen. The soon to be grandmother said she would be the one to take of the kid anyway. This is some eugenics shit. Fuck the UK

I read this story earlier and it ruined my day. How can these fuckers force a woman to kill a baby she wants, a baby who already has a gramma ready to adopt it and take care of it, more than halfway through her pregnancy...and still say they are on the side of justice, women's rights, and "choice"?

The obviously humane thing to do in this situation is sexually violate the woman, and (in her estimation) murder her child. That won't traumatize her.

Judge's body, judges choice. Did you even fucking read the article? Both the spud and her mom say they want to bear the kid to term. And even if it was the woman's mom who wanted to keep the baby and the (as described by the court) child-minded individual who wanted to terminate the pregnancy, how can you prove she wasn't coerced into it by the mentally more capable around her.

>The woman is believed to have the mental capacity of a grade school-age child. She is reportedly Catholic, and her mother is Nigerian.
fugin BASTE

That's just insulting the intelligence of grade-schoolers, the average nigerian IQ is around 70.
Which would probably qualify as a disability on its own. I guess the UK might as well institute a blanket-bank on nigerians having children, by that standard.

Forced sterilisations would be way more humane than forced abortions, though...

All eugenics and "Oh it's a nigger" wisecracks aside, the idea that a government in a first-world allegedly "free" country is forcibly aborting someone's child, even after someone has made it clear they are ready and willing to care for it, is a horrific fucking thing to hear.

To be fair, given the current state of the UK, it is possible to view this as a mercy killing.

But yeah, this is beyond the pale. Where are the feminists yelling about "her body, her choice" now?

God, can you imagine how traumatic this must for this girl?

This is the sort of thing we hanged nazis for doing

Maybe I should've been more clear. I say "her body, her choice", I mean if the woman and her caretaker didn't want the abortion, the government shouldn't had forced her.
