A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I so expected this would be an issue.

The internet is the Hydra of old, only on a far harder to kill or even cripple scale.
It's because they are trying to do this half-half bullshit of "oh yeah, you can watch it, but only if you have a loisence." It's a money making and data collection scheme. If they really were that worried about it, they could just go full Singapore or Malaysia and ban it. Won't stop people from getting it, but at least they would be slightly more in line with their alleged reason for doing so, as opposed to this very transparent data collection and monitoring they plan on implementing.

#Repealthepornlaws

This stupid law could have only really come from the dead hamster running May's puritanical brain. It does not surprise me one whit that you can circumvent another useless, badly thought out piece of trash legislation that shouldn't have reached the books in the first place.

In all honestly "Think of the children" is the rallying cry of the petty fucking despot.

What were they going to do with all this info anyway? Have "data breeches" in which political opponents wanking preferences were revealed to much embarrassment? That wouldn't hilariously fucking backfire considering the endless sex scandals MPs tend to be fucking involved in, would it?

Useless laws from a useless woke bunch of cunts pretending they're even vaguely conservative.

That's kind of the idea behind it. I can just see it already come the next election. Three days before the polling opens, and the tabloids are filled with a scoop about how Farage enjoys "5 Trannies, 1 Granny" or suchlike.

A teenager has mowed an anti-Trump message, complete with a giant penis, into the grass of his family home ahead of the US president’s UK state visit.

Ollie Nancarrow spent his weekend mowing the words “Oi Trump” into his lawn, near Hatfield Heath, in Essex.

The 18-year-old also used the mower to etch a giant polar bear, penis and the words “climate change is real” into the grass, according to the Bishop’s Stortford Independent.

The A-level student hopes that the US president will spot his creation as Air Force One approaches Stansted Airport, which is near Hatfield Heath, on Monday morning.

“Donald Trump and his denial of climate change are not welcome and I want him to be fully aware of that when he flies in to Stansted on Monday,” he said.

The teenager is the founder of Born Eco, a website which connects shoppers with eco-friendly traders.

Mr Trump’s controversial state visit will unfold over three days.

He is expected to meet the Queen and senior royals at Buckingham Palace, before dignitaries gather for a state dinner on Monday evening.

Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the opposition, is boycotting the event, while Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, has compared Mr Trump to the ”fascists of the 20th century”.

Thousands of protesters are also expected to rally against Mr Trump’s presence at a protest in Trafalgar Square on Tuesday.

Mr Trump has repeatedly dismissed the threat of climate change since taking office.

Last week the White House instructed a major US government department to cease predicting the long term effects of the climate crisis, in a move which infuriated environmental campaigners.

A US President on a peacetime visit to the UK Is "controversial"? Since when?

Oh, it's a Republican, got it......

It baffles my mind more people in Britain protest Trump when he visits than the King Of Saudi Arabia.
Oh wait, it's the UK. Europes' literal fleshlight.

Honestly, this is pretty hilarious and anyone who tries to argue otherwise is pretty obviously just doing so because they don't want to be caught out saying anything bad about Trump.

Does he regularly protest the airport itself? Did he use a manual push mower? These are important in establishing the guy's credibility.
