A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

The bloke committed a crime under the public order act by being abusive and swearing.
"No, I don't want your dystopian face scanners to photograph me without my consent. Fuck off."
If he was only fined for "being abusive and swearing" (also if this is abusive, you fags need a wake-up call fast), then why did they also force him to have his picture taken when he was fined? Is that standard procedure?

Not that I am aware of. This was a trial run and it's fucking pointless, it's London, the city with the most surveillance in the world. You can't walk anywhere there without your face being picked up on a camera. Does this also mean that muslim women will have to show their faces, or do we all need to convert to Islam and troon out to have that honour?

He's referring to Tommy Robinson

If they arrest you and take you to a police station they take your photo and prints.

I heard this exercise led to several arrests. Almost all of them were nogs, naturally, so the subversive tribe will be all over this, kvetching about "racial bias".

The police will probably respond by introducing racial quotas, so that for every negroid that the system recognizes, a random white will be selected for harassment.

The police have to treat the 85-year-old British pensioner with equal suspicion as the 19-year-old Jamal, fresh from Calais, else it would be racist, goy.
They trialed it in Cardiff a decade ago, led to 2000 incorrect matches with ordinary people and suspects, the system is a joke.

Yeah, but he wasn't at a police station, they didn't give him a caution (UK Miranda equivalent), didn't arrest him. If you get a fine, you don't have to take a photo and send it to the police. It's completely out of line.

Wonder if they’d pull the burqas of from all the “liberated” women that are the majority in these poor, crime-ridden areas. Big think.

It's absolutely stunning the UK isn't at the brink of civil war, how cucked.

@EasyPeasy shut the fuck up you Britbongistani faggot.
Hey now!

Haven't you seen his constant power-leveling about his mental disability?! Have a little bit of pity for our poor, retarded Briton brother. If Mommy Gubmint doesn't look out for him, he'll get wedgied so hard his special rubber pants will perforate his colon.

Well of course. When you're being arrested those photos and prints are used for booking. I'm specifically asking if taking a person's photograph when they're fined on the street is normal procedure in the UK?

If not... Well I could see someone arguing that they just took his photo for their fancy new system he was trying to avoid.

>Deliberately tried to sabotage a legitimate trial of new technology.
>Didn't even possess the basic legal knowledge necessary to talk his way out of the situation he deliberately created.

Lol, no sympathy from me. Idiot deserved all he got.
