A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

One of my mates failed one of the English gcses and had to resit it. For the rest of college we took the piss out of him for it. I would have loved to see what would have happened if he got a fucking number on his resit instead of a letter.

The new number system absolutely sucks. EVERYONE knows what 'A' means instinctively. What the fuck is a 7? Is that up or down? Is 1 the best or is 9? you don't know without someone telling you. (7 is A, with 8/9 being A* and A**; which is the opposite of the uni degree system (and some music exams iirc) being 1 = best. 1 in gcse is a G grade, but they STILL use U grades) its a fucking stupid change meant to hide how retarded the country is becoming

The days of "being picked for being the best" are long gone. Diversity quotas, grants for "helping the youth" and other anti-white policies are all over sport. Your team can lose major income if it's too white. The same way top performing schools lose their ranking because they're too white. We're in a country where merit is second to race and race is something you can profit from.

This is just the surface level. I didn't include the Premier league specific ones offering up to 25 grand to girl's teams or dig really deep into the charities set up specifically for it. I focused on generic grants and how corrupt the system is. If you ever wonder why everyone is "mental health aware" or you see invisible disability posters and signs at rest stops on the motor way you now know why. All of these charities and funding is smoke and mirrors. It's piss easy to get diversity grants from groups like USAID (gone now), Tesco or ASDA. Mummble mental health, show a couple of foreign kids in a football shirt and you got a couple of grants. And you can apply for multiple of these at once. Women's amateur sports, mental health awareness and inclusivity are the current sports grifts. If you can show one of your kids went onto play for some shitty club you can ask for even more money because it proves "it worked". And every idiot knows how corrupt football is as an institution and how easy it is to make money disappear in the amateur club system.

I'm not saying grants to support amateur sports are bad. I'm saying the system is corrupt where non-whites get funds white groups cannot access and struggle to make ends meet because of it. The system is rigged against white people like all the other ones.

I've never been a fan of football, but from what I understand, isn't the point of international sports to prove which countries produce the best players, or at least to have friendly competition on a yearly basis? If Ireland vs England, or Italy vs Spain are just different versions of Abdul vs Muhammed, then what are we proving here exactly? What's the point?
