A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Getting rid of Starmer does nothing. Starmer is the figure head of labour but if you understood UK politics you would understand that's irrelevant. People holding real power never want to be in the top seat because it makes you the patsy. More of our PMs have been put there to take the blame for unpopular changes the party wants but no one wants to be blame for. Starmer is doing the job he was put there to do, but he's refusing to leave once he's dirty enough to want a clean patsy. Replacing him won't change anything.

Admittedly, all I know of UK politics comes from news articles I read here. Have never been there, no plans to go, cannot leave the USA anyway due to health. This is a good example of why reducing immigration isn’t going to cut it, And Labour can bleat on about bringing the numbers down but it won’t cut any ice with the majority of the public.

The damage has been done, There has been a massive shift in culture, large chunks of the country where being white British is the minority. It’s not possible to put the cat back in the bag.

This is where the anger stems from. Not racism. Not numbers now (although of course that matters) but what’s been done. And until a mainstream party can articulate that and have a vision for what the future looks like, they’ll be going nowhere and we’ll be stuck on this prime minister merry go round.

Let’s face it, given birth rates across cultures, if we cut immigration to zero, the white British would become more and more squeezed anyway.

I’m under no illusion about how badly the West has been bombarded with near extinction level insanity over the past eighty years, but it can be gradually undone.

Cutting out the cancer from within, beginning first with the institutions that have been ‘marched through’ - the civil service, the media, the judiciary, academia etc. - followed by the mass deportations. Then you can move onto the finer details such as financially incentivising White British couples to have children, recruitment drives from a young age in schools for jobs in the NHS and the armed forces, reinstilling national pride and a sense of duty.

It would require the total seizure of power and a complete cultural shift, but it could be done.

Will it? Probably not, but I could knock up a ‘X-point plan’ and have it to you by Monday if you like!

Football serves as one of the last remnants of local community, football teams are tied to specific areas and their histories entire families support a single team you take away that you take away a large part of regional identity.

What do you mean about "needless fracturing among working class white british"? There hasn't been any major issues with football hooliganism since the late 90s and even then most of that was just organised scraps which still happen because people like to fight, most of the "animosity" if you can even call that is just banter between rival fans, it's like calling a welshman a sheep shagger or making fun of a geordies accent, there isn't any actual fracturing.

While I don't fully disagree with the last bit not every person who watches football are zogslaves and do have a problem with the state of the UK and make it very well known several football fan bases are known for being particularly right wing and anti immigration e.g, Millwall
