A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Man ever since the welshie crashed out there's been a fucking distinct lack of Men of Harlech in my life. I think he should come back and just be a glorified alarm clock for me. The older I get like people always say yea you'll be more conservative the older you get and shit like that but the more I get specifically pro English anything, not just English nationalist but just pro fucking shepherd's pie supremacy and just folk music is the best. The only time I have ever heard any right wing person react to the news of someone being a convicted sex offender with anything other than the sentiment that they should be hung immediately is when that person is a muslim. I have never met a white person that heard of a paedophile and felt anything other than violent disgust. Even left leaning ones for the most part that I know are also fucking disgusted by child rapists to that same degree.

But to only have 106 general sex offenders, not even child sex offenders just sex offenders in general. Idk that seems fairly small. I can probably find more than 106 sex offenders in labour's employees let alone supporters.

Anecdotal but the Greens supporters who are my peers have no fucking clue what a single Green policy is. All of them were shocked to hear Zack doesn't support nuclear power (the cleanest greenest one), wants to legalise GBH (the date rape drug), and that he thinks crystal voodoo grows womens tits.
They simply support Green (I don't think any of them go to the polls to vote) becoz he love immigrants :) social media told them Britain needs an opinion on Gaza :) it feel gud :)

Are Restore/Reform gaining many young people though? Restore are definitely regaining middle aged + older people who have been alienated by politics, or who have never voted before, but young people? Lowe had posted that 'a lot of young women have joined' and he has zoomers like Charlie whatshisface vocally supporting the party, but all the meetings so far have trended older. I do believe that younger men are quietly supporting Restore/Reform online, and universities have Reform Societies, which is a good start.

And yes Green gains are Labour losses; they have gained an incredible fickle set of voters in White leftists who will abandon them for whatever party supports the cause du jour eventually, and Islamists who hate fags and yuppies.

Young people in Britain are disproportionately non-native. Greens are the most welcoming to them.

Look at the breakdown of Green's win in the Gorton and Denton election. The "yoof" voting Green are young women voting because "aren't immigrants just so swell" and said brown immigrants voting because "Green will give me White people's money" (and then being subsequently flabbergasted that Green wants to legalise prostitution and all drugs). It's retards all the way down.
