A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Yes, that is exactly what this means. It also doesn't actually matter anyway, as the police have been told multiple times to stop doing X and stop doing Y and they don't give a shit and carry on doing it. They were told a dozen times now to stop using the 'Non Crime Hate Incident' system because it's something that turns up on background checks and is hilariously violating of your civil rights. But they don't care. We quickly and unpleasantly returning to a pre-peel policing structure.
Interesting. I thought it was the government pushing unwilling officers into repressing lawful speech, but I guess British police really should just be hanged as the traitors they are. I'm so fucking tired of videos of them bullying Britons for flying the St. George's Flag but ignoring brown rape gangs.

Sadiq has finally touched on 'youths' raiding shops in London (and Birmingham town centre, i think its a viral ''trend'' now) which is continuing today (unarchived video). Two arrests, holy shit do they not having the power to just put these kids in the back of the van?
Oh shit. Bongland has nigger swarms now. Yea no you have to shoot them to get them to stop. All those stores are going to shut down and the local area is quickly going to turn into Detroit, Michigan and since it's Bongland there's going to be some gibz program to keep them fed because "muh food desert" or they're going to start bussing them into new areas that haven't been sufficiently nigger bombed.

There are lots of people in the police that just stick their head down and do their job best as they can. But like...your own co-workers are encouraged to rat on you. There is a very real culture of fear and repression within the police because they have hired a select minority of what are effectively political officers. You get promoted based on your ability to kowtow to the politics. It's like some inner party shit, it's insane to hear about from some of my relatives in the force (sorry, we don't use the word force as that sounds violent.). Where you'll be sat on 12 hour shifts in your car in complete silence, because if you say the wrong thing, your co-worker has to report you, or they are considered guilty should anyone else find out after.

The police used to be worth respecting, but have for the past 30 years slowly but surely reformed themselves into an essentially occupational force that brutalises the innocent and ignores the guilty. You know 9/10 break in burglaries don't even get investigated, let alone solved. If I went down the street, broke through my neighbours front window and took their TV, there is a 9/10 chance nothing will happen to me from the police. But we have a billion pound, fully funded, hyper aware surveillance apparatus designed to do two things. 1) Fine the shit out of you for trying to exist and 2) Rape you to death with a baseball bat if you in any way threaten the government. If you threaten the government, or make them feel threatened, your door will come off its hinges at 3am and your family will sit terrified while you're frogmarched to a cell and your life ruined.

A quick response to @Heinrich Maneuver asking ‘why can’t they just put them all in a van’ to which the tl/dr answer is no, they can’t.

The longer reply (and certainly more impactful for smaller forces) has to do with an event that occurred a few years ago, where an individual in the back of a Police car managed to tackle the Officers and get out (whilst the vehicle was moving at speed) and died on scene. The subsequent shitshow from that means that suspects can no longer be transported in cars and they have to wait until a special van containing a literal cell arrives to take them into custody.

Whilst tasering* them into unconsciousness/ beating the crap out of them would allow transportation by the much more plentiful on the ground(!) ambulance they then have the problem of dealing with the unerasable bodycam footage. Being a U.K. copper is a lesson in futility and your job is always secondary to the rights of the societal scum you arrest.

*A taser is considered a firearm so you’d need a licence for that.

Interesting, thank you.
I'm inclined to agree with Kemi that these things don't happen on the streets of Lagos because the police are militarised and hose down rioters with bullets indiscriminately over there. Such is the law of the jungle.

Children smashing up shops in broad daylight, stealing and even filming themselves doing it as if it were a game, is a much bigger problem than is being recognised. This is a total collapse of consequences.

To those making snide comments about race or black kids - you do not see scenes like this in Lagos or Nairobi. Not because the children there are different, but because actions have consequences. There are clear boundaries. Parents, communities, and the authorities do not wring their hands or look the other way.

Here, we have created a culture where too many young people believe they can do what they like and nothing will happen. That is the problem.

And we should be honest about where that leads. If a child loots a shop today, films it for social media, and faces no real consequence, they are going to do much worse tomorrow.

This is why under my leadership Conservatives are focusing on ENFORCEMENT, not just making more and more rules.

Our Take Back Our Streets Campaign is about getting 10,000 more police officers, immediate justice and immediate punishment. But let’s be honest, this is not just a policing issue. It is a failure of authority at every level.

Parents need to know where their children are and what they are doing. Discipline should start at home, not in a courtroom.

We have also weakened the system around them. Deterrence is the backbone of criminal justice. Labour have changed the law so anyone receiving a sentence under 12 months will automatically walk free, instead receiving a suspended sentence. When people believe offences like this will not lead to meaningful punishment, we should not be surprised when more of it happens. You get more of what you tolerate.

It’s not like we haven’t been here before. In 2011, when riots spread, the Conservative response was swift and visible. People saw consequences. And behaviour rapidly changed. That is what is missing now.

This all comes down to fairness. Law-abiding people should not feel like fools while gangs smash and grab without consequence. The sad truth is the communities most damaged by this behaviour are often the very ones these young people come from.

Only one approach will fix this: clear rules, real consequences, and the confidence to enforce them.

It’s time to Take Back Our Streets and bring back a culture of enforcement.

Ed Davey makes cost-of-living commitments - Cut rail fares by 10%- Cut the bus cap to £1 from £3- Cut fuel duty by 10p. He says it will be funded through the extra £20m a day the Treasury is getting because of the Iran war.
Reform have sacked the Housing chief because he said the post Grenfell requirements are ''too much'' and you 'can't stop people dying'. Perhaps an element of truth but I don't want a Housing Chief who doesn't crack down on highly flammable, cheap, materials and cowboy builders.

Cut fuel duty by 10p.
He should promise to charge VAT on the pre-duty cost instead of on top of duty. It would be something Labour can't answer, because they're totally committed to Mad Ed's net zero policy and can't countenance any reduction in fuel duty or tax at all.

Sounds like something that would be a pain in the arse to implement on forecourts. Just cut fuel duty to leave the price equivalent to pre war levels. Aggressively penalise fuel retailers who appear to be increasing prices artificially to take advantage of the government "discount".

That's just fantasy with the UK government if ruled by Labour, Tories, Reform and Lib Dems. You could penalise companies for any increase on any product if you lower taxes like VAT but again not happening with any mainstream politician and with lobbying still a thing, it's definitely not happening.

John Swinney has now reversed his position on drilling the North Sea. Scottish MPs are also posting about how HM Government closed Grangemouth (jet fuel). Rachel Reeves supports drilling the North Sea. Kemi Badenoch supports drilling the North Sea. Oil bosses say they can have North Sea oil flowing by winter. Yvette Cooper wants to 'hold talks' on reopening the strait lol. I know we all think Miliband won't be sacked in case he starts a leadership challenge, but he might be the second most unpopular politician right now.
Topps Tiles are closing stores due to costs, Denby is now in administration, more potteries in Staffordshire are going into administration...

"snide" or not, it clearly is all black kids. So what is the reason for that? Engage with the point.

Has the link between actions and consequences only broken down for black kids? Do "parents, communities and the authorities" only wring their hands and look the other way, for black kids?

Or is it some other reason?

It's because they are little black bastards. If the father isn't absent, he might as well be, because he won't be a real man ( real men are present and teach their children that actions have consequences - did I mention this when parenting was discussed several months ago ? )
It's the same as it ever was, if you accuse them of anything, it's the Ali G defence.

No, it's because you and your culture are a fucking blight on our society.

Their culture comes from being black. What did they think would happen when they raised a generation of negros on the BLM motto and the police were told to go each on the ethnics? The black teenagers were already pretty feral, but the complete lack of consequences has made them think they can get away with anything. So they act twice as bad.

What you are thinking of is American ghettoization of media. Every black now is raised on a constant stream of American black ghetto culture and media to the point they emulate and take on all the racial grievousness of said American Negros.

These smash and grab riots they do are just a small part of a wider problem of popular black media since the late 80's.

People are right, you don't see Da Blaq Yoofz behaving like this in Africa. Which proves bringing them over here doesn't work and the best thing is to send them and their families packing.
