A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

That's his goal with banning halal and kosher slaughter and cutting all benefits to foreigners. I want to see him go after corporations who hire foreign labour as well, tax the shit out of them or something for relying on it.

He's going to win this, I can't even remember the last time someone was charged with misconduct in public office as typically, by the time it's came to that point they have been removed from public office so the charges are redundant. He'd be able to bring up dozens of examples of politicians who haven't been charged with this after leaving public office (like say, Boris Johnson or Peter Mandleson) and feels like a witchunt where they've acknowledged they can't get him for rape, people trafficing or anything else so have thrown a completely redundant charge at him in order to show that he's recieved 'justice'.

He's an irritating piece of shit but you'd be hard pressed to find an actual crime he has committed in the UK.

Is he being arrested for corruption or for noncing? Looking at the entire nest of fergusons the all seem up to their eyeballs in corrupt dodgy dealings with foreign governments. The girls are all in the gulf trading off their titles and Fergie is trying to get a new pay pig. There all corrupt as.
I would imagine intelligence have a list of stuff they could nail them for, and the only question was when.

It's turning out to be quite a pleasant week....Restore Britain seems to be a Party I would like to vote for, Randy Andy is being arrested, all I want now is for it to stop being so fckn cold and rainy.

A minor thing I've noticed is that in certain media they're just calling him "Andrew". Like: "Here are the police outside Andrew's house!".

Look, I know he's been stripped of his title so you can't say "Prince Andrew" anymore, but when you just call him Andrew that makes me feel like I'm somehow on first name terms with a sweaty nonce. You've got to do the whole Mountbatten-Windsor thing now. Yes, every time.

As much better as Lowe would be than anyone else who might get the job, there's no chance at all he'd do anything like that. If he even entertained the idea he'd lose half his support—his whole fraction of the establishment, plus all the people who've recently (and not really) shifted our way from liberalism/libertarianism (Sargon gang, etc).

The part they liked most in Rupert's party announcement video—the moment they viscerally, emotionally, even sexually enjoyed, and you can hear it when they repeat it and repeat it—was his promise of "pain."

They're not imagining that pain for themselves and the people they meet at parties and wish they were, the good men of status and enterprise. Pain is for you, losers. You want the Pakis out? You'll work for less than they do, and if you can't you'll get nothing.
