A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

A while ago, there was a semi-viral video of 200 Sikhs in London surrounding a flat building, eventually entering, to rescue a young girl that Pakis had snatched. There are more videos popping up now of white men walking the streets after dark and stepping in outside clubs when brown men approach and walk with white women, I think in Manchester they are calling it street sweeping. Crowborough protests are growing in number every week. It's like each side is waiting for the other to strike first

I remember reading that Edward Heath did the same with boys taken from Haut De La Garenne on Jersey - they'd get on 'Morning Cloud' and never be seen again.

No idea if he did/didn't, but there are sick bastards out there.

@Duane Dibbley You ask a very good question about children disappearing - Wales Online usually appeals for a number of children who go missing across Wales every week. Often, these children are in care homes, have dysfunctional home lives, one or more parent is abusive/absent/imprisoned and some are abused sexually, physically and emotionally.

They are 'easier' to control, they don't know what a loving home is and if they vanish not many people are going to kick up a fuss. It's a sad state of affairs that children are seen as little more than chattel or commodities to be traded.

No. It's going to lead to more violence against rapists. People who fucking deserve to be beaten to death. If those are pakis then I do not give a shit. Every single rapist in this country deserves to be beaten to death regardless of colour. I thought the grooming gangs were multicultural and included Brits too? Nooo you don't understand, we must proceed further into the bizarre leftist approach of "any criminal is just a regular human being who can be reformed" and ensure that a good 2/3 of their sentences for raping children to death is spent appearing at appearing at a probation office once every month and telling some thick social worker type that they haven't been noncing any kids this week.

The sooner we change the prison system to focus on retribution before rehabilitation, the better. Lets see how crackhead Troy can shoplift meat when he's now stuck in prison for the next 15 years. Lets see how Muhammed Al Faseah survives a short drop for unspeakable offences against children. Lets see how many people Tracy the alcholic can batter on a night out now she's locked away for the next 7 years.

The justice system is the biggest blackpill going, the more any uneducated person decides to look into it the more horrified they get. The average citizen still believes a 14 year prison sentence means going to prison for 14 years. If the public was enlightened, they'd burn down every bail hostel in the UK.

We can fix 99% of criminals pretty easily. Turn them into law-abiding, decent citizens.

The problem is that the fix could be used on normal people to stop them from believing the bullshit that controls the population.

Sure! They found this by connecting the circulatory systems of old and young mice. (It’s called parabiosis) , and there is no doubt at all that there is something there. It makes the old mice biologically younger by most markers.
It also works the other way - if you give young mice blood from old mice they age. There’s an unpleasant symmetry that probably appeals to the occult types.
There’s something (likely multiple things) in blood that’s acting to reset certain ageing related pathways in old mice. There’s one factor they’ve picked out called GDF11 which seems to reprogram muscle cells but there will be others.
Some drugs do similar things - rapamycin for example, which inhibits the mTOR pathway - what’s interesting about that is that an early life dose seems to create some kind of memory effect that lasts for life. It increases autophagy and takes out damages senescent cells which do damage.
Anyway, there seem to a lot of factors in young blood that reset and reprogram ageing related pathways. It is a wide ranging effect - it even affects epigenetic factors. It seems to give the mice about 10% increased lifespan.

So much depends on wha someone actually did. Rape, rape or abuse of a child, and any kind of sadistic unwarranted violence need locking up for life.
A kid who nicked some cars or dealt drugs after a bad upbringing, well IF they want to reform they should do their time as punishment and then they should get another chance. But they need to do their time.
Violence can be warranted. If someone hurts someone you love badly, and you beat them to death then I’m kind of understanding.
If one of the dads of the girls abused by a rape gang had gone full cartel on one or more of the perps, well frankly, when the state doesn’t carry out justice, that’s what happens. You get vigilantes.
If someone hurt one of my kids like that, I’d want to kill them, and I think honestly, mild as I am, it’d be opportunity that stopped me, not any sense the state would take care of it or that I ‘shouldn’t.’ If that makes me a bad person then I’m a bad person. Threats to the safety of decent society should removed.
All the above said as a hypothetical of course, I’ve punched precisely one person in my life, and that was in self defence. I’m an otter of peace.

In 2023/24, the average cost of keeping a prisoner in England and Wales was approximately £53,801 to £56,987 per year. This figure represents a significant increase in recent years, with costs varying based on security category, such as young offender institutions, which can exceed £159,000 annually per person.

So that's approximately £825,000 per meat thieving crackhead.
Do we put this down to the magic money tree or do we hike everyone's tax again ? I'm sorry, but the life of a crackhead isn't worth anything like that much to me.

Also hearing that Starmer may have to step down as an MP, as more than 10% of his constituency are prepared to sign a 'recall' letter.

Reform UK won't win the seat, but it'll be interesting to see if Corbyn's 'Your Party' decides to put a candidate forward (maybe even ol' Communist Grandpa himself). George's 'Workers Party' would have a candidate running as well.

Greens IMO would be the likely winners here (wouldn't mind it, one less Labour seat is good for both parties).

Not sure if Lammy would seek a mandate to govern straight away, but the odds on a GE this year have already narrowed significantly. Ooga Booga is going to crash worse than Starmer.
