A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

And yet the Midlands is still ground zero for shoddy or outright fraudulent licenses. Ever wondered why there's taxis with wolverhampton authority plates all over the entire bloody country? Wolverhampton council, which has been run by Labour since the 1970s, refuses to observe any of the regulatory requirements for licensing and hands out taxi licenses like condoms at a freshers fair.
 
Very glad to see some actual action against Walliams. He's been a known wrong un for years. I thought it was an open secret?

Just how has his inappropriate behaviour been defined, if indeed at all, other than the bland, catch all sentence from the CEO?

I remember a women came out said when she was 16 he brought her into his dressing room and was trying to shag her (which, Burgers, whilst creepy is legal here.)

Somehow, her being coming a lingerie model in her twenties means that she was asking for it as the Right Side of History people went after her because Walliams has all the correct opinions.

It's amazing how willfully clueless they are, they'll do any mental gymnastics possible to never address the real problem.

It almost feels like they're fully aware of what's really going on but they're doing some weird BDSM roleplay where they secretly relish the third world crime but they can't deny it's happening so they have to pretend to agree it's a problem and just blame white teenagers to protect the brown boot. I've noticed feminists do this too where they'll abjectly refuse to acknowledge all the rapists are brown and just say it's an all male problem. Why do European first worlders coddle the third world so much?

I swear, if Matt Lucas turns out to be a real pervert... actually I wouldn't be that surprised, but fuck if it wouldn't be annoying. That said they did fall out during the filming of little britain and haven't worked together on anything else.

I am genuinely surprised its never happened. And glad too. The cynic in me thinks that certain ‘this might happen’ type leads are followed up on more than others and this stopped. The government knows that a football game getting allahu ackbarred will radicalise a vast swathe of white males.
I would imagine there’s still a core of intelligence who work genuinely hard on this kind of thing and we just never hear about it.
I don’t want to live like this. There was a huge public support got the Good Friday agreement because by and large people were just sick of the violence and terror. Yet here that public want of peace isn’t allowed to be realised, because the government isn’t just negotiating with terrorists, it’s infiltrated with them and pandering to them for votes.
At what point do we realise that parts of the state are actively promoting terrorism and murder of the natives? Why is there no old guard in the system trying to stop this?
 
I believe they tried it at a France game a few years back but were foiled before they got to the stadium so set the bomb off early.

I think the government knows that if anything happens at a football game then that's beyond it, especially now football is a middle class sport with all the poor working class types completely priced out. If ever something happens then that bursts the bubble of a billion pound industry and ripple through everything from the taxman losing out on tens of millions of pounds of tax, to the UK being branded unsafe by Europe and all the political fallout that would happen, to the average punter going "no, that's enough" and walking away.

It's completely wild how Big Baz is villified by the government, yet him and his mates are the first line of defence against a shifty guy trying to get into a stadium with a backpack.

That's looking a gift horse in the mouth, name an independent right wing advocate who reports the news that you don't think is a faggot. Between Tim Pool, Styx, Razorfist and Paul Joseph-Watson, none of them are good enough for one reason or another. The alternative is to go trawling through Twitter and a bunch of other social media companies to scrape video for the news yourself, and who's willing to do that? Oh yes, the whiny annoying faggot who makes rage bait videos for the sub-80iq masses.

I dislike a lot of things Watson has to say, particularly when he starts sperging about marriage, but he serves a useful utility and has the least amount of hang-ups.

I will never stoop to lowering my standards in the furtherance of an ideology. I'd sooner be a minority than be represented by clowns, as whatever "gains" you make are offset by the number of free slam dunks you give your ideological opponents.
