A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Nothing like a Christmas shop to remind you of how you're a fucking idiot for being a law abiding citizen.

I could have EASILY shoved nearly 200 quid worth of meat into a carrier bag and nobody would have noticed because the tills were rammed and every aisle was packed full of old biddies spending 5 minutes at the fucking potato aisle in the hope that they find a duck fat roast potato set with a better date on it.

Instead I was good and will have a worse Christmas dinner than gypsies or pakis.

I was chatting to a Glasgow hackney cab driver yesterday, and once he discovered I was as racist as him he was off to the races.
He said that there has been a massive increase in immigrants driving private hire cabs, as the council have pretty much dispensed with the standard tests and are giving out licences to any old jihadi that comes along.
The same is happening in Aberdeen. The council are seeking to remove the requirement for cabbies to pass their version of The Knowledge. Of course this will allow any old Tom Dick or Muhammed to drive young women around.

As shit as that is, Scotland has long banged on about how "We're all jock whatsis faces bairns" and how it's a "special place" that's "different to England" and how they "welcome refugees".

If they have to start dealing with the god awful consequences of cultural enrichment they'll soon change their fucking tune.

I would rather none of this ever happened but perhaps if all corners of the UK start to see how much of a catastrophe this is, there might be a chance of people starting to oppose it. Whether it's too late for opposite do anything remains to be seen, however.

It's true. Swinney and his gang of lickspittles are always harping on about how great immigration is and how Scotland would be lost without them.
I think the phrase is "we're all Jock Tamson's bairns" and even as a kid I thought it was wanky shite.
Glasgow is fucked, where I was it was around 5:1 non white to white. Really sad to see. Of course Glasgow has the most immigrants hotels after London, so they're stowed with jihadis.

I always found it hilarious how they would welcome mudslimes and niggers, who despise them but would be absolute cunts to the English.

Been a long time since I lived there but I absolutely hated it. If Scotland is getting pumped now then I can't say I feel any pity for them. I know that's a me problem,I really do, however I find it hard to feel bad for them.

Back in the 90s there was a serial rapist in the Midlands who preyed on women getting into his private hire car. It was shit like that that forced councils into licensing all taxis, so they at least background checked and had a record of everyone driving hire cars. Plus women knew not to get in a car without the yellow council hire car registration plates.

But it’s too much like hard work to keep all that paperwork up when you have to pay staff to do it. Besides, how are you supposed to check the background of every foreigner who wants a license, when they don’t have any official papers and conveniently forget how to speak English when questioned about their past. Anyway, it’s only white women getting raped, why the hell would anyone in power care? What was country-wide outrage in the 1990s is now ‘well, they were probably drunk and lower class anyway, they were asking for it really’.

And Britain thinks it can stand up to other countries, when it can’t even look after its own.

Rangers fans hate them, they just don’t tend to say it outright because it’s a bit naughty to do so. Celtic fans, though… Well, the club was founded as a charity for Irish immigrants, so you can kinda see where they’re coming from with the ‘refugees welcome’ stuff, but these “refugees” aren’t poor Irish guys who are happy to integrate and work. They’re an entirely different group altogether, and I’d wager there’s plenty of Celtic fans who are just as angry at all the bullshit with immigration and “refugees” being forced on them. It just puts them in a really uncomfortable position when they’re children and grandchildren of immigrants themselves. Immigrants, not “refugees”, mind you.

A terrorist attack at any football game would be horrifying. I hope to god (or whatever deity or Greggs pastry you pray to) it never happens. No-one deserves that.
 
@UselessRubberKeyboard ; the thing is though, the integration of the Irish in Scotland at best, token and skin deep. It is absurd that there's the split schools in Scotland. And the retarded rivalry that exists is pathetic. The Irish heritage Catholics in Scotland aren't British by heritage, and were guests in this country because they couldn't even consistently farm potatoes.

How do they repay us? By fomenting division and spite and encouraging the mass importation of the third world. Thanks a bunch on that one.

Even though they're white I would would advocate for the lot of them being sent back. Granted, at present we've got far bigger issues to deal with but it's in part thanks to anyone who supports the UK being the dumping ground for the world's detritus, and the Irish in Scotland are part of that group.

Sky News said there’s no migrant hotels yet all the guest houses by the art school no longer take bookings and have hundreds of Deliveroo bikes outside.

The Britannia hotel is full of them too.

On the plus side the rough end Maryhill has Saltires on every lamppost.

The faggy bit of the West End has half Palestine and half Scotland flags though. I just hope they hang the people who put them up from those lampposts.

I love working in Glasgow but I now walk around and almost drop a gamer word out loud as it’s become full of browns in the last 12 months. It’s horrifying what they are doing to that city and the locals really need to riot.
