https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

As much as this is aesthetically unpleasing to the eye, this is hardly a bad thing considering the dire state of housing availability in the UK.

Naturally the Government won't actually do anything to actually encourage house building like reforming / removing our oceans of bureaucratic nonsense, as the boomers, petty council tyrants, and the City of London will cry, shit, and piss themselves if property prices don't continue to rise as a speculative investment, or new things get built in their [insert asinine reason] zone.
While I agree, the problem is these places are often not just eyesores but also so shoddily built it's a miracle they don't collapse on Deano & Becky's empty heads. Plus call me Vicar, 'cause I'm preaching to the choir here, but we'd be a lot better off housing stock wise if we booted out the people who don't belong here.
Forgive the tikitytok links, but it's impressive just how bad some of this stuff is.

Deano & Becky's empty heads.
? Abdul, Vishank, Sanjita and Zainab's heads more like.
We don't need more housing, we just need the 30million that have invaded to be removed. That and the under 40s to stop welcoming them here and simultaneously wondering why there is no housing stock available. A true act of doublethink.
Deus Vult.

women in HR positions will disproportionately hire women and minority women will favour minorities first (specifically their minority group I bet but that was not said), women second, non-minority men last.
This is an open secret where I work. Not even challenged by males, as immediately open to sexist allegations and vindictive HR pursuit.
It's why I have climbed to a certain level and have no wish for further promotion - the game is rigged and as with any semi-rational person, I have recognised there is no point in playing any more. I do wonder what the shareholders of all these businesses would think if they knew the practice was not to hire on ability ?

It has been revealed that someone broke into the Houses of Parliament on Nov 30th by climbing a roof in another major security breach at Parliament. Emphasis mine
An intruder broke into the Houses of Parliament in broad daylight, the Mail can reveal, in a huge embarrassment that has been hushed up by the authorities.
The trespasser managed to evade security at Westminster, which now includes a high metal fence as well as armed police and round-the-clock guards, to get into the heart of the estate undetected.
Sources have told this newspaper that the man gained access by climbing over the roof of the Parliamentary Education Centre at the southern end of the palace.
He is then believed to have made it as far as an ornate reception venue within the House of Lords, the Cholmondeley Room, without being apprehended.
And he is said to have only been spotted by a workman who happened to be carrying out maintenance on the historic site and who raised the alarm.
Police made an arrest and a man, not thought to be a protestor, was later charged with trespass over the incident on a Sunday lunchtime last month.
Yet neither Scotland Yard nor the Parliamentary authorities announced the security breach publicly or alerted all members and staff to it, raising suspicions that they wanted to avoid the embarrassing publicity.
It comes just months after the new fence – branded ‘hideous’ by peers – was put up along the boundary of the parliamentary estate while £10million was spent on a door that did not work.
One insider told this newspaper: ‘After £10m on a door and other works which is still not fully operational, at least £4.5m on a high security fence it is a complete embarrassment that someone can just climb in and get so deep into the site before being stopped by a workman.
‘No wonder it has been kept secret.'
Devon Dorrall, 23, of Tilehurst, was charged on Monday, 1 December with trespass on a protected site.
Keir's wife allegedly furious over reshuffle fuck ups and Keir's ''humiliation''. Labour civil war continues.

what are the chances of labour bringing back austerity measures in a lead up to the new cold war or because the economy is tanking?
Austerity is how a government should be run. I don’t get why middle class journalists were upset that the government wasn’t overspending and tanking the fucking economy under Cameron.

Looks like the practice of playing on ali's flesh flute has paid off.
Fuck you, you made me blow a pea out my nostril laughing at that.

On they note, his nibs showed me some of comments on Keir Starmers substack and there's many references to that man's relationship with Ali. I don't think it's working as he thought it would and that makes me feel all kinds of festive.

People are disgusting customers because they have never had to deal with the publics shit.
Bring back national service, but instead of having to die for Israel you have to stack shelves for 6 months, would be more inhumane but would also fix everything, I guarantee it.

Absolutely yes. I find now, even 20+ years on I can spot the people who have done such jobs a mile off. It makes you see things differently.

Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good, mass deportations won't be here anytime soon, nor is it the solution to all problems. The average Brit pays 32-36% of their salary in rent (41% in London). Anything that reduces that number ought to be welcome with open arms.

With regards to shoddily built shite, I completely agree, it's awful, however, I forward the position that the market will price those houses according to their worth and quality, and their value will plummet, should the market not be held ransom by state. The price of housing is significantly artificially inflated by long-term mortgage investment vehicles (which are likely to continue getting longer) and artificial scarcity caused by state regulation — there is also a real scarcity element, in that land is limited, however, the UK is nowhere near running out of space for construction.

Without regulatory reform — planning, environmental, and consultation — the UK will never build sufficient homes to overcome population growth, hence the abject failure of every government for the past 50 or so years attempting to encourage construction.

Roughly since the 90s until today wages have doubled, but house prices have quadrupled. Enough is enough, liberate the industry and stop the old petty tyrants of local government holding the younger generations in a stranglehold.

The shelf stackers today should be called shelf slackers, they don't even face-up. Lazy.
Omg and I hate that the big supermarkets follow Aldi and Lidls practice of having deliveries on the day.

When I was out of work I would absolutely have done overnight shelf stocking. I'm a night owl, I'm antisocial and I like making things neat and tidy.

Now though, those jobs don't exist. Night staff cost more and employers have to offer night staff annual health checks, plus just in time logistics are cheaper, so they've done away with them. And that's why supermarkets are always full of staff putting away shit

Overnight shelf stocking is a perfect job for people who hate people and it probably kept more than a few turbo autists in work, but noooo, fuck that and a nice shopping experience, gotta pinch a few pennies, Mr Tesco needs MOAR MONEY.

Keir now blames structural issues and regulations for lack of change - apologies for posting a ton of tweet responses, not exactly high brow journalism but I think it sums up the majority of thoughts; that Keir is a retard, that the Labour government was fucked from the beginning, that all our governments are stifled by the Civil Service and (I assume) Blair era institutions and regulations. Perhaps if we just said 'damn the courts' fucked off every gov contract that isn't working out (HS2, hotels, the sewage being dumped into the rivers) and started butchering the Civil Service and associated bodies like a nice rack of lamb we'd be getting somewhere!

Polanski is understood to have told associates that "I couldn’t live with myself" if Farage became PM and he did not do everything possible to stop Reform; if this is true this might break the support the Greens have. Loooossserrrrrrrrrrr

I've seen some posts and articles about the MI6 lassie and some other dude beating the drums for war against Russia
However, the media are liars and I can't trust a single thing they say.

So, dear KiwiPoms:
Is there serious intent to start recruiting/drafting or is this just another thing to threaten you guys with?

Stated intent? Yes, gonna happen though? Lol nope. For so long as recruitment is outsourced to the likes of Capita it'll remain in a sorry state, in it's current form it's simply incapable of actually getting anyone through the door.

It's actually so bad numbers wise that it's looking likely conscription might have to make a comeback in from sooner or later though, out of pure necessity, used to be a solid "never gonna happen" but now it's a "definitely maybe". Every single NATO country had the exact same headline recently; every single one, the Greek defence minster was talking about coffins and flags just the other day, they never used to be this pessimistic.
It's some predictive programming bullshit and we're seeing it in real time, the specific number is a 1/20 likelihood of "conflict" before 2027, which means either there's some intelligence to suggest so, or, more likely IMO, they decided not to blow the whole budget on promoting miscegenation this time.
I look forward to laughing about the upcoming mishandling as always.

It's mostly a response to Trump talking about leaving, or severely curtailing US involvement in, NATO, and an attempt to justify increased defence spending.

Goes like this: most European countries have let their defence spending wane while the US has been the big dog in NATO (UK and a few eastern european nations are notable outliers for most of the period in question, at least in terms of cash spent). The EU, operating in end-of-history mode for most of its existence, and the Obama-era US, thought that Russia could be brought into the western orbit through engrenage, or economic integration; a belief Putin was more than happy to indulge as long as the gas payments kept flowing.

The Ukraine war panicked Europe into remembering that there is, in fact, the possibility that bordering nations do sometimes like to invade one another and that they do in fact need to spend on defence to insure against that. The talk of a potential war with Russia is literal fear-mongering to counter any complaint about increased defence spending. They don't anticipate actually being invaded or going to war, but they do understand the necessity to replace the potential loss of defence capability that would result if the US goes through in a withdrawal from NATO.

British politicians, being mostly europhile at heart, echo what their continental counterparts are saying because they also realise our defence spending is a complete shambles, but also because they want to subsume themselves in the EU's decision-making process in order to deflect blame for any decisions they might have to make.

I believe it's a last ditch attempt to secure some national fervor/support and give the masses a new boogeyman (RUSKIES) that isn't migrants or the government to hate. The leftwing of this country hates war, the rightwing won't defend a Labour government already letting in invaders. What are we fighting for? Conscription could be pulled out to distract from unemployment perhaps, but the last major thing this Army has done was build flood defences with sandbags and man covid swabbing units.
We simply could not survive a serious European war, from people's attitudes (see the batshittery on all sides due to Covid, lack of patience and selflessness, demanding every comfort of modern life) to the lack of logistics (especially around food supply), to Keir currently raping farmers, raping the working class, raping the Army (many Generals allegedly do not support Keir), the NHS on its knees, multiple strikes, multiple security breaches, etc etc etc. This isn't the Iraq war where we were in better times economically, confident we were 'doing the right thing' by stopping WMDs, and had Cool Britannia pride- and many people didn't support that war either, but it felt a damn sight more removed than a Russian front.

The Afghan War was to protect womens rights- but how can we use that excuse now? Bus passengers save 17 year old from being kidnapped by Sudanese migrant.
Footage shows the 17-year-old victim walking alone after finishing a shift at a theatre in Swindon when she was approached by Abdulmawal Ibrahim Adam. After aggressively trying to engage her in conversation, the teenager desperately tried to flag down passing cars for help.
The attacker then terrifyingly attempted to grab the "petrified" young woman and drag her across the road.
But her screams for help were heard by a hero bus passenger, who noticed the scuffle and jumped off to come to her rescue.
He chased her would-be kidnapper away in front of members of the public, who have commended him for his bravery.
After being chased off, Adam tried engaging with another woman and attempted to follow her before she also got away from him.
Adam, 28, a Sudanese national living in Swindon, was jailed for four years and one month after admitting to the attempted kidnap.
He will serve an extended licence totalling seven years.
The victim told Swindon Crown Court: "I remember how I was before this happened.
"It was like I wasn't even aware that bad things could happen in the world, and I felt confident in myself to walk out the house every day at any time of day or night.
"I remember not being afraid to be outside or to constantly think about people's intentions around me while in public."I never would have believed this had happened to me and I never fully connected myself to when women say they don't feel safe to walk at night, but I understand now."
In other news; UK Universal Studios has finally been approved - please note this will take 25 years to build and all the jobs will go to migrants.

Same old shit from the last 10 years, blame Russia for everything in a feeble attempt to unite people against a common enemy. The cognitive dissonance, between the Russia is collapsing narrative and Russia is a hyper influential state feeding all bad things, is hilarious.

The UK can barely recruit willing volunteers — 6 months - 2 years wait times until basic training, with a battery of paperwork, forms, and medical exams to boot lmao — much less manage any kind of mobilisation at scale.

Plus, I highly doubt the younger population would go along with it, not even mentioning all the foreign nationals jumping ship at the first sign of being sent to war.
