A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Then, if it happened, the backlash would be swift and brutal.

Asking people who live among their fellow citizens to kill them because a fascist has issues... we've been here before and the new Nuremberg trials would see Starmer and the rest of his cronies executed.
You're far more optimistic than me.

Also no Warwick Davis thread for you stalker children.

What were the exact parameters of the Warwick davis bet again? Was it limited to a GE in 2025? You’re going to get away with it! Thrilling last minute countdown to end the year…

GE 2025. Welshie already consneeded that one, to everyone's disappointment.

Re young people getting jobs, one thing I don't often see discussed is the negative feedback loop on the social side of a job being designated for migrants. There have always been shit dead end jobs for shit pay, but you could count on your co-workers speaking English and having a shared culture. If a young person does try and work at a care home and wipe bottoms for a living to use Zach Polanski's example, good luck going for a pint after work or meeting up on the weekends with Omar and Pujeeta as your co-workers while your almost certainly Asian supervisor treats you like dogshit.

Slight PL but even looking for placements in my field which did require a degree I found myself doing experience in dingy offices where I was the only white person. If you're a 20-something British native looking for work in a brown-dominated market you're treated as a curiosity at best. Now imagine what it's like in low-skilled jobs where your coworkers are unintelligible fresh off the boat rape apes.
A job becoming coded for migrant workers is immediately far more off-putting, even leaving aside what it does to pay and job security. The pitch goes from 'hard but honest daily grind' into 'suicide inducing workhouse conditions'.

All this pish about kids going to uni, staying in education til 18? World would be a better place if every person had to do a "menial" job for a couple years at some point. Pulling pints, stacking shelves, whatever.

People are disgusting customers because they have never had to deal with the publics shit.

Working at maccies at uni, I had to deal with parents changing their kids shit filled nappies on tables people eat off, being spat at, verbal abuse. I'm not saying anybody should ever put up with that abuse, they shouldn't. Just that, if people knew how onerous that work was they might be less insufferable.

Also no adult should be in a zero working hours contract and the minimum wage should be sufficient that you can live on your own if you choose to.

If we booted out all the mystery meat illegals and their families, we'd have more social housing stock available for workers on low income to live in. These vermin should be given absolutely fucking nothing at all, not a penny, not a slice of bread, not even a fucking tent while we have a country where people in industries we rely on have to live in grotty fucking HMOs, with no job security, and, after April not even the dignity of long term rental agreements.

It's a fucking offense that this is happening. It is a sin and a shame that the minimum wage is so pathetic that you cannot have your own place to live, with a bit of privacy and dignity.

The worst part about the youth unemployment crisis is that it's not a youth unemployment crisis.

It's a young MALE unemployment crisis.

White women recruit white women and Pakis recruit white women. Men can go kill themselves as far as the government is concerned. When was the last time you ever saw a male receptionist? I'm absolutely sick of getting interviews to places, passing the all women receptionist team, passing the all women admin team and passing the all women HR team to be interviewed by two white women who have got their mates daughter in line for the post. Gender equality in the workplace doesn't matter when it comes to men for some bizarre reason.

There’s days in the year yet! Or are the bastards all on vacation already?
Not until Friday when the House rises.

TBH I thought that we were definitely going for a GE by Christmas with the way things were going.

I was wrong, and therefore no Warwick Davis thread this year.

I won't make any predictions for 2026 just yet, but I believe that Starmer cannot last for much longer as PM and unless he goes within the next few months it'll be a disaster - I don't even think he'll make it to the June elections with all the plotting in the background with Blair, Gray, McSweeney etc.

Even if Labour's plan is to carry on until 2029, how will that be possible with defections and MP's refusing to obey the Three Line Whip? The open hostility to Starmer isn't going to die down, it will only accelerate in the new year and unless he can win over the doubters then he's on borrowed time.

Reform UK are ready at any time, and I gather that all of the other parties will be as well.

What will be will be.

@BongoMongo I would have Apprenticeships from age 14, with final exams at 16 or 17 (combined GCSE/A level) and then one or two year's National Service before University or Full Employment.

@Chunky Salsa According to Wikipedia, 'The Prime Minister (in consultation with the Cabinet) makes the key political decisions on the use of the Armed Forces while the Defence Secretary administers daily military operations. Nevertheless, the supreme military authority belongs to the Sovereign and not to the Government of the day.'

Therefore, the Military could and most likely would tell Starmer to 'fuck off'.

During my youth I once misspent a summer picking tomatoes in a commercial greenhouse. I was the only English person on the entire site. Management were all Dutch or Polish and the pickers were typically Romanian or Albanian. I once sat down at an empty table in the canteen, to enjoy yet another lunch in silence while everyone else stared at me, when an Albanian woman and her boyfriend came up to me and said "You're in my chair. Move."
I was tempted to say "You're in my country", but I didn't fancy getting stabbed.

It was extremely hard work to meet the targets and days could start as early as 4am, but the worst aspect by far was the social isolation. You need colleagues who can banter to get through a shit job.

I had the same in warehouse work. We were all on zero hours contracts. All the English staff were punted and they got in more polacks. Suffice to say I'm glad poles are now fucking off.

This country addiction to cheap labour may have started long before then, but it took off hugely after the poles started flooding in.

The sovereign spends his spare time inviting muslims over for tea whilst letting the Church of England devolve into a social club for faggots.
I'm not sure trusting him to act as the last bastion of sanity is a solid plan.

Catching up on the thread and this talk of new builds reminded me of a conversation I had with a relative over the weekend about how they've noticed every town they drive through in the area is practically ⅓ building site these days for those awful, shoddy brick cubes. I took a look on google and bugger me they were barely exaggerating. In #3 & #4 you can tell the new builds even from the air; they're the same make and model as all the rest, everywhere else in the country, vernacular style be damned.

Not to derail the thread into ones of those but I recall the BBC discussing some of this several years ago on Woman's Hour. They were pointing out that it's a known fact that women in HR positions will disproportionately hire women and minority women will favour minorities first (specifically their minority group I bet but that was not said), women second, non-minority men last.

This was being discussed approvingly, openly bragging that there was a known issue with women discriminating against men as soon as they were in a position to do so. Very mask off.
I believe the bet was he would make an appreciation thread.

As much as this is aesthetically unpleasing to the eye, this is hardly a bad thing considering the dire state of housing availability in the UK.

Naturally the Government won't actually do anything to actually encourage house building like reforming / removing the oceans of bureaucratic nonsense, as the boomers, petty council tyrants, and the City of London will cry, shit, and piss themselves if property prices don't continue to rise as a speculative investment, or new things get built in their [insert asinine reason] zone.
