A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It's like a rictus. He's not really human, is he?

How anyone could believe he's any good at any thing is past me. He was useless as DPP and is responsible for the moral rot in this country.
He smiles like Data from startrek or the T-1000 from Terminator. It doesn't look quite right, it looks like a machine or an alien trying to mimic human behaviour.

I hate that stupid, dim smile he always has when ever he's in public.
It's a certain smug arrogance, hiding a psychopath. It's the prototype of the "face I'd like to hit".

A nice propaganda piece by the BBC, outlining the contradiction of supporting the church and being a patriot

Gareth Talbot does not necessarily believe in God, but he's started going to church.

He felt compelled to do so after taking part in one of Tommy Robinson's rallies in September.

"I never thought I had to choose before, but now I'm feeling like Christianity could be replaced, so that's why I feel the church needs support," the 36-year-old from Bradford says.

Gareth talks about the church in England being under "threat", as he sees it, mainly from Islam. He says his concern is about the extreme elements of Islam, not the religion as a whole.

He also makes claims about all the Christmas markets in London being renamed "festive markets" and about some areas of the country becoming "fully Muslim", as other reasons for feeling a need to engage more with Christianity.

Having now returned to the church he used to attend as a child with his grandmother in Little Horton, Bradford, Gareth says he wants to take more of an interest in what is going on there.

"It's not that I've found God," he says. "I've never felt you need to go to church to be a Christian, but it's always been the Christian religion that's kept our values and freedoms, and that's why I need to support it now."

I'm not religious and I despise all these bishops that call for unchecked immigration. Possibly I'm more old school....I'll support anything that stops the perversion of English culture and prevents the Islamification of our land. I think I'm less happy clappy Church of England and a lot more deus vult.

I'm curious if Labour's migration policies now make them elligable for a PREVENT referal.

I mean, they're basically copying and pasting the ideas from Reform, and as we know, Reform are far right Nazis lead by Clacton Hitler who deserve to be arrested, charged with treason and [redacted] so surely we need to be wary of Labour, for the safety of the nation.

We are at war with illegal immigration. We have always been at war with illegal immigration.

By the way, lads, they’re only at war with the boat monkeys so the can distract you from bringing the entire of Bangladesh in legally and giving them leave to remain for hanging about.

Option 2 has as much hopium as Sinn Fein actually taking their seats in parliament.

And I don't see Reform keeping their promise of changing the voting system once they get enough seats to replace one of the two main parties. The fact that they are trying to do another referendum for a different voting system and I have not heard anything from them in regards to what voting system they want to implement is making me already question what they are trying to pull.

I don't trust any politician or party and that's a golden rule I've kept for years.

The best one is him just straight up saying "Up the RA!".
Option 2 recently worked at the Caerphilly Senedd by-election, with Plaid winning the support of the Left and keeping Reform UK out.

For some on the Left, a true coalition of chaos and infighting is better than allowing Nigel to be PM.

@Hellbound Hellhound That story is a re-hash of something which Led By Donkeys mentioned on Social Media but was never proven and when they were asked to provide proof they refused to.

How do we know that Labour aren't being funded by Russian Crypto peoples?

We don't, but it's always 'Farage man bad' even when Farage man hasn't done anything wrong.

Methinks the Left doth protest too much at times.

Edit: Women Footballers demanding the same FA Cup money as what the Men get..

Just back from a meal at a Turkish restaurant. I’m sorry to the idpol posters and their police handlers in the thread.

Comments section summarises it. Bring in the same revenue and you can demand the same pay.

Do you get to put it on expenses as community outreach officer?

I’m going to hide them in my attic and force them to cook for me when Farage builds the camps leftist Twitter has promised me he’ll build.
Now you'd better make sure that none of those people you're hiding in an attic are of a Jewish persuasion. Don't want to eat a cultural appropriation charge.

Double post as I’m off tomorrow and we’re on the wine. This worked out swell for them in basketball and I’m sure it won’t escalate woman fatigue.

Meanwhile, the women's prize pot is so thinly spread across hundreds of clubs that many of them will lose money in earlier rounds. Between travel, staffing, medical cover and pitch costs, participation often costs more than a victory will earn.
It's less women being greedy and more this guy complaining that he is operating on a loss. Equality is the only crutch he can lean on to get more money.

I go full libertarian at times like this and say let the market sort these fuckers out.

These “professional” female footballers will be lezzing it up on OnlyFans to make ends meet in no time and Ben Hall will be their cyber pimp.

In Lewes though?

I mean, it's respectable southern Englandshire we're talking about.

That sort of thing is not very tickedyboo Carruthers in the leafy lanes and cobbled high streets.

Perhaps in Royal Tunbridge Wells on Thursday...

It'd be interesting to see what Lewes FC's accounts say about operating profits/losses - they've bounced between Steps 2 and 4 quite a bit over the past 20 years.

At one point they had half an eye on promotion to the Football League, but that looks unlikely for a good while as The Dripping Pan is still basic even for an Isthmian League side.

If women's "professional" football doesn't make enough money to be viable, it's not professional football. Bunch of entitled dykey amateurs.
At the level Lewes operate at (Step 3 of Non League) it is certainly feasible to pay players of different genders the same, but if Lewes were a League 2 side then they'd go bankrupt trying to pay Football League wages to both the Men's and Women's teams.

When you go from paying £500 p/w (or whatever Lewes pay) to having to pay £3,000 p/w then unless you have more money than sense it ain't gonna work.

There's also talk that Women Footballers are now demanding to play in stadia as good as what the Men play in - apparently this means that St. Helen's Stadium (Liverpool FC) and Leigh Stadium (Manchester United Women FC) 'aren't good enough'.

They aren't going to be given an Anfield or Old Trafford of their own overnight, therefore they should just be grateful for what they have been given (by us men, mostly).
