A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

She's entertaining as opposition as she gives it her all. She'd be pretty shit leader as far as I'm concerned as I don't believe any politician should exist with dual nationality as it's a complete conflict of interest regarding national security.

She's like the funniest man on death row, sure he does a great routine including a ventriloquist bit but ultimately he still has to hang.

Although if I were her, I'd have gone all in and congratulated him on defeating his internal coup as a strong leadership of the elected party is good for everyone. REALLY put the screws on everyone at once.

The best thing about this though is that Aldi Dale Winton has completely fucked it, he can't continue his cheery Alan Carr type routine when everyone knows that he tried to manipulate the entire party into stabbing the leader in the back. I hate Starmer but there's one thing I hate more than Starmer is opportunists who are retarded enough to believe that THEY could right Labour and casually fend off Reform in about 2 years. If you're worried and want to stand for something then fucking RESIGN and run as independant.
 
I'm a nosey old bastard with good hearing. Overheard on bus this morning a couple of younger ladies saying something that got me interested. That when we started punting Jews off to palestine way back, we agreed with the Muslims that the UK would become a Muslim caliphate and that's why they've been letting them in for years.

Certainly and interest to rationalise the current fuck show I guess

I noticed that both Chunky and our Brighton & Hove Albion supporting friend had vanished.

A shame as both were pretty decent (IMO anyway) - I wasn't aware that Chunky had been banned or was in trouble.

It's Joever, this level of stories pre-budget is going to make the budget go over like a cup of cold sick. Expect resignations in the coming weeks; ministers will try to save their own skin.
 
Waiting for the budget to come out has been in a way like the build up to Christmas for me. Not because it will be good but because it will be so bad that the fallout from it will be hysterical.

Its easy to explain, Cheap labour. The powers that be only care for the GDP going up and rather than do that the honest way by improving working conditions and increasing pay for British workers they chose to just import slaves. In their hubris they thought they could control the horde and keep them servile. They seem to have forgotten that they are fucking idiots who wouldn't be able to keep a dog under control let alone a horde of slaves belonging to cultures and religions that are hostile to us.

This explains flinging open the doors to unlimited Poles, Czechs, Spanish, Portuguese, East Timorise (or whatever they're called) etc in the early to mid 2000s because those people actually did come to the UK to work like slaves and undercut locals when it came to wages and the living conditions they'd accept. It doesn't explain the fucking mental "small boats" situation and the "Hehe, wow, if only we could stop this from happening! But it's literally impossible so fuck you, just deal with it" response of successive governments, because the """"""asylum seeking""""" """""""refugees""""""" DO NOT WORK OR CONTRIBUTE TO THE ECONOMY IN ANY WAY. Importing cheap labour was bad enough but this isn't even that, it's literally importing useless eaters at this point.

I was reading The Metro since the busses offer them for free. On the section with the reader's opinions, I noticed that almost all the opinions were left-wing, especially pro-BBC. Do they only showcase left-wing or centrist opinions? There was also one saying racists "aren't fit to lick the boots" of NHS immigrant workers in response to Wes Streeting claiming we're back to 1970s levels of racism in hospitals.

When their work-time ends, they are obligated by their contract to terminate the service no matter where they are. Happened to me once, was absolutely infuriated.

Won’t make a blind bit of difference. Doesn’t matter which Labour puppets take over, or if starmer gets put in the stocks, of Labour are still in power the country will continue to implode
