A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I think this is on the money. It's like people are really angry and upset - rightly so - but they aren't ready yet to accept what needs to happen to actually change anything. I'm not even talking about camps or death squads, BTW, I'm literally talking about putting people on planes and removing them from the country. Even that is so radically different from what's been the status quo for so long (allow literally anyone into the country and give them absolutely everything they need, prioritise them over the native population in every single way, and brutally crush anyone who protests) that people are squeamish about it.

I would be interested to know how removal policies have been managed in other European countries (Sweden and I think Finland? Denmark?) to make them palatable to the populace, because I really feel like UK normies would react like US normies have reacted to ICE arresting convicted sadistic child rapists, wife beaters, murderers etc: with absolute mindless hysteria.

Protests are the festivals of old. Kids today go to the protest to be seen, to have the coolest outfit and the best drums, the funniest placard and wackiest face painting. That stabbing right outside New Street is sadly not shocking to me. It should be, as it’s a busy area even late at night, but Brum city centre is dodge-a-nutter even of a weekday dinnertime, and I’ve been accosted by lunatics on numerous occasions of a late evening there. How tf are we supposed to live like this, though? Police every 200m, or do we all have to be armed, or what? Maybe more people need to run in to tackle psychotic arseholes when they go on a stabby rampage, but people shouldn’t have to. Why are there so many people doing this insane shit? Ngl as a side note but modern day antifa in the UK is utterly pathetic. I've been watching Simon Tomlin over at the daily agenda and the way he recounts it, Red Action is the early 1990's was so violent and extreme that the BNP legit had to form combat 18 just to be able to keep their meetings safe. Nowadays antifa legit do nothing but hide behind the cops and make threats.

Interestingly, Gloucester is the furthest inland city with a direct connection to 'the sea' or at least the River Severn via the Gloucester & Sharpness canal.

Whilst I am very much on the side of keeping the Triple Lock, I believe that eventually Pensions will go and people will be told 'you've got to save now for your old age'.

Make savings non-taxable and encourage people to look after themselves.

We need to look after the elderly but we also need to look after the young and middle aged too.

Anyway, Welsh Labour have just leaked their latest 'cheat plan' for next year's Senedd Election... the vote count will be the day after!

Yeah, those 4,000 Labour votes which suddenly appeared are totally not suspicious...

If you have millions of these people, and 0.5% of them are at risk, you will increase the risk compared to only having 100,000 of these people.

Anyone who is interested about non-Western views on Schizophrenia should read The Gene: An Intimate History by S Mukherjee because mental illness is fucking rampant and they refuse to acknowledge or address it beyond 24/7 thorazine comas
Tl:DR Mukherjee's family has a history of Schizophrenia (alongside bipolar and god knows what else they all seem a bit mental), and while in the West as a Dr he knows that it is genetic and treated with medicine, and he contrasts this with how schizos are seen back home.. His family and many Bengalis in their home country feel that schizophrenia is caused by Partition- though Mukherjee notes that the disease was rampant in the family before that. The one man who is a confirmed schizo and has multiple breakdowns speaks of a voice commanding him to piss in public and 'flirt' with someones sister. The police beat him to drive the Partition demon out of him.

The father has had two confirmed psychotic breaks as well and most of his brothers and cousins are a bit 'touched', though several of them are not 'Partition Children'. He also touches on the Bengali word for genes, 'abhed', meaning invisible. Genetic Illness, 'Abheder dosh',

A very interesting read, covers the whole history of the gene too. I also HIGHLY recommend his other book 'The Emperor of All Maladies'.

The Remembrance Sunday Parade at the local cenotaph here had a very, very heavy Police presence. I've never seen it like that.

Also of note: they played the National Anthem over the tannoy, and it was two verses. Which I've never seen, but what was telling was not a single person, at all, sang it.
 
No police here, but, there weren't nearly as many people as usual and it was very quiet. No oldies wheeled out, only one "biker", and not a single crying baby.

A "new normal", I suppose...
