A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Keep an eye on Birmingham this afternoon. Schools are shutting at 2 because of the national Jew hunt anti Zionist protest at Aston Villa. Opposition protest due to turn up and an estimated 300k Muslims. Should be a good laugh

Now that's the saddest part. Can you still get these? Those were one of the best things about bonfire night. Trying to spell out your name by whizzing them about like a wand. And ahhhh the smell, pure nostalgia.
Yes you can. I got ours online. Which seems far MORE hazardous to me as they had to come through the post. What if they ignite?
They are going to ban firework sales to the public, I can feel it. Maybe not this year, but they will try it.
The smell takes me right back.

It won't be anti-semetism if it involves muslims. It will be "angry nazi football hooligans disrupt match with anti-semitic hate"

How could the far right do this??
Oh wait … nothing to see here

Can't archive rn Bham was fucking bedlam last night in Digbeth/Deritend area, 'youths' throwing fireworks directly at police. Seen a lot about riot shields. Media seems to be blaming it on the Aston match already but idk sounds like usual 'youth' shit to me. I really doubt the idea that nothing will happen because circuses (and I hope I am proven wrong). Reports of Palestinian flags unconfirmed I have not seen pictures/irl. WMP are sending 700 officers to the match and there's no Israelis turning up- this isn't just 'a protest of an Israeli football team'. This could get ugly

I think I know how those prisoners got released by mistake. It sounds unbelievable and it's edging towards a PL so I'll keep it simple. AI.
I don’t see any references to the Prison Service using AI for administration . I would be retarded if they are and are not using a 4 eyes check on important decisions.

It's there. Look harder.

AI could be a possibility, look at how willing our councils are to bankrupt themselves implementing some new computer system, If another William Smith (a horrendously common name) was slated for release it could explain why the other fella got out (and then handed himself back in). Idk how common Brahim Kaddour-Cherif and Kadush's names are within the prison system but a computer fuck up and no one bothering to double check sounds likely.
Lammy rejected PMQs question on prison release fearing 'career suicide'. Bozo

As an aside, if you're looking for a DIY shit's hit the fan wound-care herb. Dried yarrow, especially if you have some in your lawn that you know will be clean. Rinse & dry it. Store sealed nicely away from moisture. I think it contains both anti coagulant and antiseptic components and forms its own "scab" helping to keep shit clean. I only heard it off Ray Mears anecdote but I trust the guy

Possibly - a friend of mine was once 'arrested' by the Police over not paying car tax.

Turned out that another person with the same name (in full) and with almost identical Drivers Licence details had done it and not him. Thankfully, it was sorted within a few hours and the offending party even apologised to my friend for what had happened - it had 'slipped his mind'.

Some afternoon news bits:

* Bank of England keeps interest rate at 4% AGAIN as it forecasts when 'problematic inflation' will end.

* Politics LIVE: Reform may face legal action after Kent councillor booted from party over conduct (I'm with the party on this - the councillor is a sex pest and needed removing).

Every home should have two first aid kits. Please go buy one and support St John's Ambulance. They're £20 a pop and come with everything you need.

If you ever get a bad gash, use superglue to close the wound, it's what it was invented for. Or, if you're outdoors or in the shed, smash as many cobwebs in there as you can.
He give tots large box with dressings that have expired from work, and god knows what else, im
I had no idea about the cobwebs, that's fascinating.

I've ordered a couple, and a small one for my rucksack. On the subject of bleeding, those heavy duty sanitary towels are excellent too in a pinch.

Christ only knows where my kits have gone. I assume somewhere safe/ the Bermuda triangle.
ive got a box of expired dressings from work, and glad I’ve got my nursing knowledge too. I’ll treat myself and family, and phone the GP only when I need to,
I can’t reply to pottery, but nhs lanarkshire have implemented for elderly patients not to go to AandE and straight through the frail elderly/hospital at home to try and cut times at a and e for others.
I think education for the general public is really required to teach folks when it’s suitable or not to go to a GP/ hospital. I guess there’s NHs inform, but I don’t think folk bother with it. It’s a shame coz it’s a good resource.
Btw my colleague and I have just finished 55patients blood draws. I could kill some of the consultants forgetting to put the tests on the system. I’m fucked. Having a chinky tonight lol

They are saying they want to overhaul the paper based system. I wonder if they’re piloting something and it’s mixing names up.
Or a stress test to observe the failure mode of the system, what happens and how long it takes to track them down. Maybe ugabunga ali scrabblename was released because it is - in the eyes of the laptop ticklers - easier to find him in the system than john smith or andy williams.

Nerd alert

Hello, lads. Been a bit quieter the past few weeks (been busy). Have a look at this banger of a poll from FindOutNow:

REF: 33% (+1)
GRN: 18% (+1)
CON: 16% (=)
LAB: 15% (-1)
LIB: 11% (-1)
(changes from 29th Oct)

Here's what it'd look like on a map:

1762455449213.png 1762455546177.png

In short:
  • Reform remaining stable in polls.
  • Greens remaining stable.
  • Tories floundering, Kemi bounce dead.
  • Labour falling back with every day in office.
  • Lib Dems totally unable to capture any momentum and are being roundly-fucked by Green populism.

Looks like Lucy Powell might not be in agreements with Reeves/Thieves:

Income Tax rises are virtually a dead cert - if Reeves does that then the pressure to offload her will only amplify. However, if Reeves goes then so does Starmer, and he's demanding 10 years in office.

The bleed out of those who support Burnham or will back him because Starmer will get too toxic even for those Labour MP's who previously backed him is not going to stop once it starts in earnest.
