A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I wonder if they're allowing it to happen so they have an excuse to go 1488 on immigrants.
I was thinking about your post tonight while at work and honestly, I don't see this happening. Politicians WANT bad things to happen to British natives, very bad things and I do believe they want to see those bad things through for very nefarious purposes. The day that muslims start going door to door to kill Native British families is the day those very people start screaming for the blood of politicians as well.

Former Premier League owner Mike Ashley ‘provides proof of funding for takeover’ of Sheffield Wednesday in new twist
Poor buggers at Wednesday. Sure Mike Ashley is better than the utter pillock who owned them before, but he’s still a money-crabbing shyster who won’t give them a penny to build success. A club like the Owls should be up there in the Premier League, they’ve got a massive fanbase and a decent history. Sheffield’s home of the game.

On a wider scale, football clubs are more than businesses. They’re cultural hubs of the local community, most with histories that go back over a century. They should all be protected as cultural assets, not just the same kind of business as Big Mo’s pizza and kebab place.

Gareth Southgate reveals 'worry' as England hero responds to question on Union Jacks and St George's Flags
What’s worrying about the national flag being flown at England’s sports clubs? Ffs, it’s the national flag. If you don’t like that it’s associated with racism (it’s not), then find a non-racist hoedown and associate the flag with that. We’re not getting a new national flag. Git gud,

BBC doctored Donald Trump's January 6 speech to make it appear he was encouraging Capitol riot
Yet we’re supposed to trust the BBC as unbiased and the pinnacle of trustworthy journalism in this country.

White poppy campaign to 'decolonise' Remembrance Day launched and remember those 'killed or imprisoned for refusing to fight
The white poppy for conscientious objectors has been a thing for many, many years. What it has never signified is anything to do with race or ‘decolonisation’. Why use the word ‘decolonisation’, if you don’t want to be a divisive ‘whitey Brits are all guilty of slavery and murder’ dickhead?

Fruitless and foolish!' Female-only Cambridge college confirms trans women ARE allowed
If trans women are allowed, it’s not female-only in the eyes of the law. If it’s female-only and men gain access, the women are within their rights to take the college to court for breach of their rights as a protected group. Because, wildly, words mean things and ‘female only’ means NO MEN, no matter what excuses those men have.

Hundreds of pubs go bust as Rachel Reeves’ tax hikes sparks highest insolvency rise in a DECADE
Can’t have people lollygagging around in pubs when they could be out looking for work. Also, people talk in pubs. You’d be surprised just how dangerous the pub has been for social strife over the centuries. Because when all else fails, people talk to each other. Ruh-roh…

Side note: has anyone seen those two new right-wing-esque grifters on socials, the ginger kid and the 'scottish korean' fella? I thought they were a gay couple or something until I saw him on some interview about how much he hates Muslims while wearing a bacon shirt.

They pop up constantly on my social media, I couldn't get the measure of him or figure out why he hadn’t been arrested. Was entertaining though, especially when Korean got that sky show permanently cancelled after going off on one about paedo warlords live on air, whilst wearing bacon. It all fell into place a bit later when he started making posts about how Jews have been so badly treated and we need to ally ourselves with Israel.

Dodged every question on tax and blamed Liz Truss and Covid. This is "context for the budget," what a fucking joke. Literal Chatgbt slop, cannot speak for shit, and just says words with no meaning.

The British people got sold downriver to appease the mighty gods of the GDP line lmao. I wonder if any members of the public would, if given the option between the highest levels of immigration in the history of ever in the UK or no tax cuts, choose the former over the latter lmao.
I would pay 100% tax to return demographics in the UK to 1983. Unironically I would own nothing and I would be happy.

It's early, and my cuppa is still brewing so maybe I'm being a mong, but...

"£1 in every £10 goes towards paying the debt, not reducing it"
"Debt is at £2.6t, 94% of national income".

I don't understand. 10% of tax is used to pay for 94% of income debt? How does 90% of income make up 6% of the income? I know I' misunderstanding, but I don't understand.

>Claim in election manifesto pledge not to raise taxes
>Raises taxes

Every political party ever. (not defending labour, I'm just tired, bros)

Do Guide dogs tell the blind person when they need to stop wiping?
Thats why you spread some peanut butter on the toilet paper silly
I don't know what you mean so I can't really pretend to not remember it. Does BLM mean "British Lives Matter"? The extent of my modern British cultural knowledge was living in Glasgow, enjoying Buckfast a lot, and preferring Sainsbury's over Tesco for groceries.
Fenian or hun?

10% of government expenditure goes towards paying interest on the debt. The debt is currently 94% of the value of GDP.

Government expenditure is part of GDP but not all of it.

This seems like one of those girl boss things that labour are so keen to introduce currently. Personally I don't really care, it's very nanny state but anything that hurts the porn industry is vaguely positive
This has been illegal for the better part of almost a decade under the Digital Economy Act 2017 — with the section on pornography now being superseded by the OSA 2025 — and its provisions on extreme pornography. This is another limp dicked attempt by the government to control the internet by throwing billions at a new department staffed by negative IQ boomer government drones, that will not only do nothing, but will somehow make things worse.
