A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I think it's for the reason you gave about bullying.

However, there are some ginger boys/men who weren't bullied and were in fact bullies or just aggressive and narcissistic in some way. Maybe a few of them think that they can only stamp their 'authority' down by converting - a lot of ginger inmates in Prison apparently have no issue with converting to Islam.

Knew at least two 'copper tops' at my school who were total shits - one was a total whiny faggot who never grew up (trooned out as well to get money for doing fuck all) and the other eventually settled down into an ordinary job after believing he was special and had more rights than others.

It's neither. The reason you notice them is the same reason they get picked on in school: they stand out from a crowd. You will always be able to pick out the ginger when everyone else blends together.

Of course we blame Labour as they are the Governing party.

When Reform UK are in power, it will be on them and then they'll deserve either accolades or criticism.

I'm not above being critical of Nigel and the party, but as we're not yet the governing party of the UK then I fully support us rightfully calling out Labour and Tories for being total shits.

My belief is that Farage won't do that - he will have no choice but to rip up the script and do things differently or he too will be out. Don't forget that he'll be elected to be Britain's Trump and anything other than that won't be accepted.

I can understand your skepticism, but to say 'Nigel will be as bad as the rest' is IMO wrong.

He won't be allowed to be like the rest, the voters and the party will see to that.

2. Quangos currently cost the government 400 billion a year 2023 numbers. This needs to be eviscerated. All of the don't need to exist.
3. Green shit, end it, saves 110 billion a year, but also drives oil and gas production, creating a stronger market and decreasing costs.
4. No foreign aid, 13.7 billion, you can put that into the Military.
5. Abolishment of county councils, I don't understand their function, honestly. It seems like busywork that can be centralised.
6. The upheaval of the tax system needs to be low taxes to encourage investment and spending.

Without even going down the migrant path, that is over half a trillion. The NHS is at the point where it needs to be privatized because it is not fit for purpose. Even cutting it down in half nets 200 billion. NHS England is part of the NHS even though it is a quango.

The uniparty has become antiquated in spending too much money and not using it accordingly.

7. Cut MPs, Mayors, Councillors, etc wages to the average UK salary with no increases and expenses only for travel. Forbid (high paying) second jobs, 'board memberships', charity positions, etc. They can't understand the country if they don't know how the average person lives.

It’s my opinion that the usual proportional breakdown applies. A minority will NEVER be corrupt except under threat, a minority will take any chance they can and steal, and the majority in the middle are prone to I fluency and opportunism. Closing those loopholes is probably giving most impact
