A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

The train derailment. Coincidence or....
Climate change. That's what they'll blame for it. Climate change caused unprecedented rain (in one of the wettest parts of the country) which caused a landslide (in a place where they're common enough to have special maintenance rules to deal with them) and that's why you need to pay per mile while driving.

It's in Happenings. I think the article thread got merged with it.

Sussex Army Cadets (SACF) are caught up in the whole 'housing migrants in the base' shenanigans, it seems no one from the Home Office or Defence Ministry or anyone has informed the base about the decision. SACF have been inundated with complaints from parents and adult volunteers about how SACF is going to safe guard children on the base (cadets are 12-17 depending on branch iirc).
UK.gov placing violent paedophiles safely away from children (any%) challenge: impossible

So what happens? These people will literally let the building fall down. They would really rather do that than be responsible for taking the unpalatable, but prudent and preventative, action.
Doesn't that fucking say it all?

This has reminded me something. Not really related, but perhaps illustrative of our entire political class.

So, as some of you might be aware, the Houses of Parliament are falling to bits physically. It's an old building, not up to modern codes. Leaky, dilapidated, etc.

It needs renovating but in order to do that, all the MPs would need to be relocated. I know a person who works on the estate team and they say with some authority that a best case scenario is everyone out for six years. Worst case scenario is something like everyone put for FIFTY YEARS. Yeah.

Apparently the person authorised to trigger this process is the Speaker of the House. But no one wants to be the one to pull the trigger. Getting to be Speaker is the culmination of a political career, and no one wants to be remembered as the one that caused everyone to get turfed out for god knows how long. No wants this to happen on their watch.

So what happens? These people will literally let the building fall down. They would really rather do that than be responsible for taking the unpalatable, but prudent and preventative, action.
Most sensible thing to do would be to move Parliament to Birmingham (there's land near the NEC/M42/Birmingham International Railway Station which could be used) and sell off the Houses of Parliament to English Heritage.

Move Parliament closer to the people.

I vote for rockall. Or Svalbard.
Or the bottom of the marianas trench. I’ll leave the final choice up to them. Survivors to be picked up in five years after the beautiful architecture is saved.
My final offer is a tower block in sighthill, and they will be happy.
Actually maybe we could build them a little replica out of bin bags if it’s in Birmingham… as long as it’s televised BB style I could go for that. Let the vermin meet the rats in Birmingham.

Can't think of Rockall without remembering one of the greatest sites of all time:

'They voted that you have nothing, MP's, and you will be happy.'

Nothing’s a bit harsh. A choice between weils disease from brummie rats or tetanus from rockall’s finest bird guano should focus minds though. Or sighthill. I have long said that serving politicians should be housed without security in rhe most deprived wards of their domain. If it’s good enough for the plebs to rot in it’s good enough for them I’m sure.
I’m all for saving the Palace of Westminster. We must preserve our architectural heritage,

Honestly I'm worried something BIG is happening very soon. There's something about the police reiterating that the stabbing wasn't a terror attack and then mentioning they're increasing police presence on trains in response. If people stop using trains then people stop going to work and the precarious economy plunges, it feels a little "Nothing to fear fellow citizen, now continue to work while I observe from the bunker"

I was a little worried something would happen on Halloween, hence staying in and watching scary movies and November 5th is the next big date as well as 11/11 and Remembrance Sunday. Christmas markets are a complete no go (in fairness they were even before this, paying close to 15 quid on a fucking hot dog that comes from a tin?) and I'm probably going to avoid any big ticket event concerts for a while.

Yes, this is complete doomer fuel but we're looking at a country that released a guy who kicked in a copper only for that guy to then stab dozens of people on a train. If we can't lock up obvious schizos who can't be trusted then what the fuck is the point in UK law? Every major incident is typically followed up with "he was known to the police/social services" and Southport Schizo had been pegged as a walking timebomb YEARS before anything happened.

I just don't think I can pretend that everything is fine and then go get turned into a sieve by some brain fried psychopath nigger for having the audacity to go to a Sabrina Carpenter concert.

I think that another incident or incidents are definitely likely before Christmas.

Maybe even a 9/11 type incident around Christmas/New Year.

I'd avoid London (well, I try to avoid it anyway - but especially around NYE).

They’re worried about copycats. Every mentally ill loser in the country now knows how to get incredibly famous incredibly quickly right now.

If I was a betting man I’d put money on Aston villa v that Israeli team having an “incident” during their match.

Nope I totally get this feeling. How long til sorry citizen your digital ID doesn't permit you to travel on the train network??

Now, is this because you've been banned from going onto the train OR because the digital ID system is down/broken?
As someone who had the misfortune to be in A&E in 2017 when system one went fucky wucky I guess the latter but the former is just as likely.

Starmer is absolutely frothing at the gash over a social credit system. He's got a massive gigantic boner over implementing that. The thought gets him rock fucking hard.

I do believe Connor (The ex? Lotus eater) when he said he had tip offs that something really big is coming and the feds in the UK are not doing anything to stop it, no matter how many warnings they are getting from other countries intelligence networks. Something has to be in the pipe line for this country with just how many new arrivals we've had since 2021. The ramping up of street level attacks has to be a testament of that.

My guess is it'll be multiple Charlie Hebdo style shootings all at once in different UK cities to over stretch the police and try encourage other terror cells to join in. I really hope this doesn't happen but the sheer amount of random attacks happening is just proving how emboldened the "new British" seem to be at all levels.

@A-Logato , I genuinely believe we we will see Mudslimes going door to door, slaughtering people. Farmers near Bradistan should be very fucking cautious and extremely prepared.

That or church congregations being target. Tbh the church of England absolutely has this coming. Those cunts are enabling illegal migrants here. They deserve it. Anyone concerned about the illegals issue who still supports the CofE has it coming imho.

I wonder if they're allowing it to happen so they have an excuse to go 1488 on immigrants.

I mean an excuse that works for them, before anyone jumps on that. Politicians are cowards. None of them wants to be the guy that overturned the legal framework for mass immigration on the mere demand of hoi poloi, but they surely can see the direction society is going. There's a non-zero chance some retard in power has picked up the idea that they can allow an immigrant uprising, believing they can control the subsequent chaos, and implement draconian immigration controls in the aftermath with a clear conscience; after all, they're doing it for security. They no doubt think it will also let them implement totalitarian social controls with impunity as a part of the "remedy" for immigrant crime. Will the plebian mass exchange freedom for removal of the threat?

@Duane Dibbley this is probably where you step in and say "I told you so".
