https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

The UK Home Office's counter terrorism department has added more books to their naughty list

And surprise surprise Tolkien is on it now, the LOTR series is now considered a gateway to right wing extremism by the UK guberment.

"William Shawcross, who investigated the program, wrote that United Kingdom’s Prevent system had three main objectives: “to tackle the causes of radicalisation and respond to the ideological challenge of terrorism, to safeguard and support those at risk of radicalisation through early intervention, identifying them and offering support, and to enable those who have already engaged in terrorism to disengage and rehabilitate.”Initially the program dealt mostly with Islamic terrorism, but in recent years it has shifted focus onto right-wingers. Its definition of “extremism” is extremely disturbing, as well as their theories on what causes “radicalization.” Because J.R.R. Tolkien is not the only author they have determined to be dangerous. He’s in good company. C.S. Lewis. Aldous Huxley. Joseph Conrad. Even George Orwell and his “1984.” All the best British people are on this list. Reading these wise and skilled writers identifies those reading as “those at risk of radicalisation.”

Carry on Brits, no doubt the bobbies will be by shortly to confiscate your forbidden books! Please don't resist as we'd hate to have to arrest you for reading the wrong type of material.

And I'm not joking, with the way shit is going in the UK owning the wrong book could very well be something that lands you in jail in the very near future.
William Shawcross did not ban any books. The idea stems from misinterpretations of his 2023 review of the UK's Prevent counter-extremism program.
This is what actually happened:
  • A discredited book list circulated: A separate monitoring and evaluation list, not produced by Shawcross, wrongly included classical literature like Shakespeare and Tolkien as potentially encouraging far-right views.
  • The Shawcross review debunked the list: The official Shawcross review actually condemned the overly broad and unhelpful nature of this list and its inclusion of classic works.
  • The government adopted Shawcross's recommendations: Following his review, the UK government adopted Shawcross's recommendations, and the book list was officially discarded as a red flag for radicalization.
The Guardian hates Shawcross, that should tell you all you need to know.

In 2023, Shawcross's review of the UK's Prevent strategy—a program to counter radicalization—sparked significant debate, particularly regarding how it addressed Islamist extremism.
  • Focus on Islamism: Critics from civil rights and Muslim organizations condemned the review for being biased against Muslims. Shawcross recommended that Prevent focus more on Islamist extremism, asserting it was the most significant threat, while downplaying the dangers of extreme right-wing radicalization.
  • Accusations of prejudice: Opponents of the review accused Shawcross of holding prejudiced views against Muslims and of having a history of making anti-Muslim statements. Amnesty International stated that the review was "riddled with biased thinking, errors, and plain anti-Muslim prejudice".
  • Concerns over censorship: The review was criticized for potentially leading to censorship and stifling free speech. Shawcross described some critics of Prevent as "radicalising influences" and suggested that Prevent should silence certain voices, despite also arguing for free speech.

Talking of charities I really like St Tigglywinkles : ) I don't really care if they are just taking the money because they once drove all the way 3-4 hours to come pick up some injured baby hedgehogs and sent us photos once they were better and released back into the wild. They are a lot better than the RSPB/RSPCA who just don't give a fuck and are fine to let polacks eat swans
I've worked alongside a handful of hedgehog charities and from that I've found they're generally pretty switched on - I had at first assumed they'd all be incompetents that just wanted to play with cute animals but that was far from the reality. You'd be surprised how many charities and trusts there are in the UK that seriously care about the smaller, seldom seen animals that make up UK wildlife (things like frogs, voles, small birds) and do a lot of meaningful work monitoring them if not protecting them.

However our native wildlife sadly doesn't get as much attention as heckin' furbabies.

The establishment really seems to be increasingly fearful of right-wing and Christian art. I'm seeing similar parallels with people's reaction to the Trump administration posting Halo related posts. Halo being a 2000s pro-US, pro-military first person shooter game about killing cultish (vaguely jihadi) aliens.

I think the right needs to really recognize and capitalize on this. It doesn't matter how many elections we win if our children are growing up with stories portraying us as evil. The right needs to worm its way into institutions and create tacitly pro right-wing pro-Christian art. Less God's Not Dead, and more Lord of The Rings (Or Halo).

Maybe I'm a hopeful old fool, but it seems like they're going more on the offensive with this kind of stuff, and more overtly racially conscious, similarly to Rupert Lowe's crusade against anti-white discrimination in hiring. I think that's good, I think it's leading the way for people to realize (and being unafraid to believe) that they're White, and people hate them for it.

The dream of all the races singing kumbaya and holding hands under a rainbow has been proven as a farce that only White people believed. More White people recognizing their race and advocating for it is something that fills me with hope, especially when they refuse to cower to the old strategy of calling any racially concious White racist.

Amnesty International stated that the review was "riddled with biased thinking, errors, and plain anti-Muslim prejudice".
Rich, coming from a group that welcomed one of the biggest pimps in the U.K. to inform them that ‘sex work is work’ and how Amnesty should support it (which they now do). Suppose Kier & co won’t care and will make it all legal just like A.I now say it should be - that way they can clear all those layabout women on benefits off to the brothels.

A.I is as useless and bought-off as the UN now. Not like anyone in politics really gives a toss about human rights if they don’t benefit them.

Brendan Rodgers RESIGNS as Celtic boss as shock interim manager announced
Thank fuck for that. Now get him to take Celtic’s board along with him.

Enjoy the title, Jambos, I guess.

They should.

If rebellion is to come it will come from those looking for a return to normalcy and the not the queers, faggots and troons who seem to dominate culture.

The establishment doesn't fear the Left, they are the Left. What they do fear is the average white Brit getting finally fed up with the bullshit flowing down to the point that he's ready to do something about it.

It's what all the establishments across the West fear and fight every day with their propaganda and constant demoralization tactics. They fear the normie, the average dude, the guy in the street because for every troon or every Lefty commie there are 10 of us.

They know deep in thier blackened souls they are outnumbered and the only thing keeping us from storming the palace and stringing them all up on the lamp-posts are the social mores and taboo's against violence that the Right still holds.

But every smug troon getting someone arrest for posting a meme, every rape of a Brit girl by another unwashed illegal living on the dole, every smarmy politician going on the BBC telling the world that it's really the white males need for racism that's the real problem erodes the barrier that little bit.

The question always is; how much longer, how much more will it take until those deeply ingrained social taboos finally break and the masses rise up? This is what keeps shitheels like Starmer and his bosses awake at nights. Shit is reaching a tipping point, we see it more and more each day, the screws keep getting tightened and the elites control is tested again and again and again as they crack down ever harder for their own safety.

The real question I have is who wins out first. Will the police state stamp out the embers of rebellion? Or will those embers hiding in the hearts of good men finally catch fire and burn us a new and better world order?

I expect the former but I pray for the later.

I’ve noticed that all the “hello fellow Anglo-Saxon extremists” posters have been quiet for a while. Are the police on an overtime freeze?

I am a lazy illiterate monkey and that really fucked up my text to speech system.

I really need to flourish my posts with more racial slurs to keep my identity hidden.

My Mum read The Hobbit to me when I was a kid,as well as Farmer Giles of Ham. Maybe that's why I'm such a foaming at the gash racist as an adult (kidding. Like so many on here,it's spending time around non Whites which has made me how I am).

Guys, the Tolkien going on a banned book list isn't true. there's been one poster who put as very good take down of it (shout out to @EddyRooney ).

You're all getting angry at a tabloid lie spread by Indians on Twitter like boomers on Facebook.

PS, I love Tolkien and will re-read Hobbit over Christmas.

What I love about this is how hilariously out of touch censors are when it comes to the cutting edge.

If I was a state censor and I wanted to remove certain books that went against the official narrative, I'd ban Submission by Houellebecq, I'd ban The Strange Death of Europe by Murray, I'd be double and triple checking what's in medieval books for fear of radicalisation etc.

Instead they're banning white fantasy/sci fi authors from the start of the 20th Century.

If only there was a way to channel that into a force for good. Sure, British Railways may have the odd bombing if they get put in charge but at least the trains will run on time.
Ah not the train autist type unfortunately. The flapping and 24 hour care 60 IQ low functional type
Just Stop Oil protesters avoid jail after 'publicity' stunt to spray Taylor Swift's plane
Some things go beyond vandalism. It’s like those idiots who slashed tyres of SUVs. I think urban SUVs are daft too, but if you interfere with someone’s vehicle you are into ‘this might kill someone.’ Territory.
If someone’s kid needs the doctor in the middle of the night or they need to get to a family emergency, they get in the car and drive off and someone’s half slashed a tyre. Maybe it’s fine for a mile or two then oh dear, a tyre blows and there’s a crash. That kind of thing is NOT Ok. It’s like cutting brake lines or sabotage and it should be treated as such
Planes are something that if you damage, and maybe spraying it with something damages an intake or something, or reduces visibility of a sensor, you again create real danger.
The protestors targeting vehicles need to be charged with something worse than just graffiti. It’s criminal damage that could kill.
The ones who damaged Stonehenge’s rare lichens with the orange paint should be strung up. I am so sick of these twats doing performative ‘green’ stuff that actually damages the local ecology and not giving a shit about real environmental issues.
The question always is; how much longer, how much more will it take until those deeply ingrained social taboos finally break and the masses rise up?
Imo the average Brit is one denied bacon butty or tax rise away from going full Boudicca, so let’s see.
You’re right though. The left are no threat, but the masses are, and I wish we understood that. The people have the power, we’ve just been trained like dogs with shock collars to cringe at the idea of using it.
It doesn’t even require violence - look at Covid. The nonsense stopped when a critical mass of people simply stopped going along with it. They stopped wearing masks, they took the piss out of the people forcing it, and when nothing happened to them they got emboldened.
I kept getting told ‘you must do ..!’ And I kept saying no, I’m not, and people just cringed and said oh but you must, they said we had to. Who said? No, I’m not doing it, it’s dumb.
Then suddenly that spell seemed to break. That’s all it takes. You just have to not play along. Become ungovernable. Live by your own internal moral compass. Do not do the things you know to be wrong.

I 'own' an audiobook, on audible, of 1984, narrated by Stephen Fry (he also narrates animal farm and it's great.)

Why would Amazon distribute terrorist material, and why would Stephen Fry narrate it? I guess I'll ask them when we're all in the clink.

Stephen Fry'd be in the nonce wing. I wouldn't want to end up there, Duane, you'd get a name for yourself.

I just wore a neckscarf instead of a mask and nobody bothered me. Wish I'd had the balls at the time to just out right reject it.
No clue why but it was like a wave of retardation hit me and I got the first vax, didn't get any more of them after a strange reaction thankfully.
If i was more inclined to believe in conspiracy I'd think there was more behind me suddenly deciding to get the jab than just me generally being retarded and wanting to avoid trouble.
