A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It’s not just the traditional middle class that do this but a lot of tradesman and, may Allah forgive me for saying this, journalists.

Going after the big finance firms also seems suicidally regarded when our economy is pretty much just the City of London.

There’s was a massive moral panic in the press years about “people not paying their fair share” years ago because men who drove white vans had as good a standard of life as white collar workers and journalists got jealous we weren’t funding “our NHS.” HMRC shut a bunch of loopholes, turns out journalists used those loopholes and a bunch of retired hacks killed themselves after finding out they owed more than their savings in taxes.

Interestingly George Osborne looked at scrapping the whole contractor thing and is you worked for a firm in a certain capacity for x amount of weeks they had to employ you directly, but that would have utterly destroyed things like the construction industry and most accountants would have been out of a job overnight.
 
Reform councillors in Worcestershire seem to be asking for a 10% council tax increase, despite campaiging on scrapping council tax. Did the other Reform council in Kent have issues like this as well? They seem to be fucking incompetent so far.
Do people just not turn up to the Drs on time anymore? Waiting room was full of brown people who arrived after me and all got seen before me/the moment they walk in. obvs theres no way to tell who's got what appt time but everytime I go (turning up 10 mins early) i'm always waiting 30-40 mins. Maybe i just have bad luck but god is it frustrating

Not COMPLETELY their fault - both Hunt and Reeves have fucked the councils over and even Labour, Tory, Lib Dem and NOC (No Overall Control) councils have had to consider rises.

Plus Reform UK councils aren't getting their full funding from the Government - colour me shooked.

Reform UK councils are at least going to look to see where further savings can be made with DOGE.

Get Reform UK into Number 10, the debts will be axed and the taxes will be lowered.

The article is some "men bad" feminist crap but just about all of the comments are about the image chosen by the Daily Mirror rather than the article.

Are black women really being sexually harassed and raped and stabbed by handsome white men in business suits on the subway and other locations? Is this really a thing?

It's basically if Netflix made a series on the killing of Iryna Zarutska.

And if we were to talk about segregated subway cars, can we separate the niggers from everyone else and put them all in the back one?

You want extra capacity? Fine, you can have this, but you then have to agree to the following:

* Men only services (trains/services)
* No fat people services (trains/buses)
* No children/babies services (trains/buses)
* No ignorant gobby twats services (trains/buses)

Apologies Llyr, I didnt mean to disrespect your party! IK they are inheriting a shitshow (as every party does) but good god. Are the government still debating on pushing the council elections back? its always funny that the plebs voting the wrong way is a threat to democracy but denying funding or moving elections isn't.
A 5th grooming gang survivor has quit the towers. Rupert Lowe's inquiry has "progressed to the stage of selecting panel members and witnesses". I don't know why we need all these inquiries (the purpose of a system is what it does) when we can just sack the police, social workers, medical staff etc involved in the cover up and start prosecuting/hanging. It's not like we don't know who it could possibly be raping white girls.

No probs, and you and everybody else here is free to criticise Reform UK as much as any other party.

In defence of the councils (mine being a Labour run one) it's very much a 'shit show' and even Labour grass-roots people are angry that money which should be spent on things from fixing potholes to elderly and vulnerable persons care in the community as gone to Ukraine or will go to Palestine.

Labour don't want the inquiry because Phillips and others knew, did nothing and tried to suck off the Muslims for their votes because they are scared of not getting their votes. When that becomes common knowledge, Phillips will be axed - she is a traitor and betrayer of women and unfit to serve.

Rupert Lowe is doing it the right way, and I'll always respect him - despite the bust up with Nigel, he is a gentleman and wants justice.

When Nigel is PM, everybody who took part in this inexcusable abuse needs to be hung, drawn and quartered in the public square and the message needs to be 'fuck with us (literally or figuratively) and this is what will happen to you.' The ECHR and those rape lovers can get in the nooses as well.

It's not at all their fault but it's a microcosm of what Reform might have in store for them if they sweep to a majority in a general election. Successive governments, but most especially Labour, have sunk Britain further and further into a financial hole. The more people criticise Labour for their tax hikes and cuts, the more difficult it's going to be when they get into power and face the same difficulties.

Anyone remember when Liam Byrne (Labour) left that note for his successor at the Treasury saying "I'm afraid there's no money"?

Reform need to be careful to thread the needle between what will get them elected and what will be false promises. Fixing Britain will be a generational effort. Financially, legally, culturally.

The problems with all this ( other than the resources / finances involved ) are that it feels to me like the result is out of the Muslim playbook.
Why do Muslim women wear a burqa ? Isn't part of the reasoning because Muslim men can't control themselves if they see any exposed female flesh ? Their men are so backward, limited and animalistic that they are compelled to objectify and make a conquest of every female that isn't covered or accompanied. Thus men and women are separated in their culture.

Well isn't the argument for female only carriages similar - the reason being that men are unable to control themselves around women ?
So the end result is that women are seperated from men, the same as they are in islamic nations.....Personally, as a man, I find it objectionable that I have to be lumped in with the animals. Are we not introducing something that is of a foreign culture by the back door ?
Let's be honest, I really don't think it's white men that are causing this problem. The fact that the explosion in sexual crime has only occurred since the massive change in demographics would be a clear indicator of cause and effect.

I'd take Made in Wales and go one further - how about an exclusive service for white middle class men that pay more than their fair share of tax and just want to be left the fuck alone so they can read their book in peace. The difference would be that service would more than fund itself, would be litter free, clean and civilised. Much how the country was before it was invaded.

If cases aren't going to go before the Magistrates or Crown Courts, the CPS then has a major problem.

We also still have a chronic shortage of cells in our prisons, and a few this winter will be taken by the homeless/veterans who will be grateful just to have a roof over their heads and two meals a day.

The middle classes are about to get a very rude awakening.

Yes please. I was complaining about tax the other day and how I'm probably going to get arse raped in the upcoming budget, and what do I get in return?

My wife wryly observed "well your kid gets free childcare".

Wrong again, stalker child I told her. Nothing I get from the government is "free". It's just some of my own money given back to me. Demographically, I'm the only sod paying in more than I take out over my lifetime. And what thanks do white middle class men get? Posters on the tube implying that we are the ones sexually assaulting women, and causing disruption by playing loud music on our phone speakers.
