A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Calling it now. British citizens will be forced to take migrants into their homes or else face massive fines/have their property seized because Labour DID promise to stop housing them in hotels!

Absolutely yes,I can completely see this happening. They'll go for pensioners who are under occupying first (personally I have an issue with this too, but there's a total lack of appropriate smaller homes which hampers it) and work from there.

They'll also, IMO, push hard for digital currency, linked to your digital ID and health records.

Starmer has his orders from Davos and nothing else matters to him. Whatever they've got on him/ offered him is bad enough/ lucrative enough, he doesn't give a fuck about anything else apart from forcing them through.

Anything can go on a pizza
Traditionally yes. One of the main things that cannot go on a traditional pizza is tomatoes, you know considering they were only introduced a few centuries ago from south america. A traditional pizza is just whatever the fuck you can find put on a cheap carb base and with some cheese and meat thrown on to make it taste not shit.

A ham and cheese toastie is closer to a traditional pizza than anything containing tomato. Fight me.
Jamie Oliver's hands typed this.
Jamie oliver wouldn't tell people to do whatever the fuck they want. He would be telling you that if you use cheese on the pizza then you will have a heart attack and die so instead you MUST used a ball of fucking boiled spinach oh yea and also the pizza base is like really bad for the environment so we're going to be using tofu instead and also frying it in half a litre of olive oil because I want it to be healthy.

Then the GE will have to happen as the rioting WILL kick off and the Police and Army won't be able to contain the masses.

The conspiracy theorists will have been proven right and Starmer will have to leave office.

When the Government can no longer function, it'll be game over.

I'm actually hopeful this does happen as it will mean instant and inevitable change - Labour MP's will be too scared to vote for it as they know they'll be executed by their voters.

A shame if the DAVOS files got leaked out...

The government, were it to implement such a thing, probably wouldn't do so without first compensating the owner at a bare minimum.
In such an event, I give it a month before the story of the first rape, murder, or rape-murder, comes out. The potential likelihood of that scenario is probably why it wouldn't go beyond the concept stage, since it's even less deniable than the current arrangement with hotels that the government is directly facilitating the murder and rape of its own people. I think we already have charities or something where you can voluntarily house a refugee or something, but if the idea is floated of forcing people to take one in by the government, the possibility of that should be muddied by millions of people stating online:
"I'm allowed to kill in self defence someone who forces themselves into my home and who I feel threatened by."
Doesn't even need to be Brits, simply overwhelming the government with that statement will probably have them reconsider.

Being mundane/realistic, similar to how much of a wet fart the digital ID* is shaping up to be, Labour promising to do something about the hotels is probably about on par with the Tories promising to do something about immigration i.e. fuck all. I think Labour are probably trying to congregate all of the boat-crossers into a few hotels rather than spread them out over many. It gives the illusion that the problem is being dealt with rather than just being taken out of the public view.

*It's shit but it's dystopian capability afforded by it just isn't there. You already have a 0.5 version of digital ID with the Government Gateway/HMRC account you can only access using your NI number. Labour's Digital ID is just that but with your picture tied to it. It's going to cost millions, not get used, and it can't even facilitate a dystopia since anyone over the age of 55 can't even wrap their heads around using it.

We should actually rejoice that Labour have let the cat out of the bag - it's made their death as a party inevitable not in 2029 but a whole lot sooner.

When things seem to be at their worst, that's when they are starting to get better.

Senior Bank of England economists have even said that Reeves' budget could breach IMF rules and even LaGrande has started to voice concerns - Starmer can't ignore her, or else he'll be reported to DAVOS as 'not obeying the rules' and then he could be shown the door for being insubordinate.

In ten days time, the Welsh town of Caerphilly could start to seal Labour's fate - a win for Reform UK will scare Starmer as the Welsh Budget will then not pass this year. Enough Labour rebels voting against it would also be a VONC in Starmer/the Government (and these people are loyal only to themselves and the current thing) and should Starmer start to demand rebels/Burnham backers leave the party then the collapse will come.

An evil and desperate Government is entering its nadir.

Yea it's a good job they have lots of money to be throwing around right? I would love to see them try this. The only escape people have from this plague is within their own homes, at least for the most part, there's still constant propaganda on tv and if you live near them then even your own home isn't exact an escape from the stench and racket. But the more you force the general population to engage with your politics the more they will be forced to think about them, no one is going to think about having some random stinky nigger shoved in their house and think yep this is good and nice. They will all see through your act and realise just how much you fucking hate them and their entire way of life. Force them to live with violent criminals within the same building and well doing that same thing but getting the housing and food for free suddenly looks more appealing.

The government will never force people to take illegals into their house. What they will do if they want that is instead crank up the spare bedroom tax and offer extra payments if you fill those spare rooms with migrants. Tax them so they cannot afford to live their life and then offer them tax reductions back down to the previous base level that just requires them to give up on that way of life. Like they have done countless times already.

It'll be like the window tax. The inevitable result will be people knocking all their upstairs rooms into a single space. In fact, I might just look into that...

That's sort of what the leaked idea to put them in empty and rented property was which they seem to be going a head with. Though rather then them being in your house they will just take over your whole street.

That actually already sort of exists.
The Tories implemented it in 2015.

However the parties are really petty when it comes to opposing party's ideas and shit, like when Labour got their hands on Right-to-Buy and butchered it into nothing. If their future plans are like what you say, then I expect they'll twist Rent-a-Room into something shit.
(You can "rent a room" out to family members BTW. If you have a kid paying board or something then this is how you can shave off a bunch of taxable income)

A relatively normal PM would have said 'hell no' to this (even Sunak and Spaffer), but Starmer has zero feelings and empathy and, as stated above, would implement the plan and then piss off abroad.

Who from his party is going to stop him, even if it means Reform UK winning a super landslide at the next GE (which then would be weeks, not years away, when implemented).

Starmer only cares about being seen as an international statesman, he does not care about being PM.

Could everyone save me some effort and rate their own posts optimistic? Because the cope is getting real now. Labour conference was supposed to be the end of them, this by-election or that by-election would see the party collapse and the general election will be called and once again "any day now" is being touted. We're at December 2020 "trust the plan" levels of cope right now.

Very true, its mostly cope. LAB are not leaving until they are forced out, because they know they are not getting back in any time soon. The party might not survive, so no reason to pull the pin when your in power, and plenty of brain dead retards will still vote for them whilst screaming "racist!" at English flags.

Even if Made in Wales is 95% cope by body weight, we need at least someone to be hopelessly optimistic in this thread.

Doom is more accurate, but it's also more boring.

I reckon these posts will continue for the next few years claiming that a GE is right over the corner, right up until the time it's actually scheduled.

I hate to be the one not huffing copium but we are not going to get an election. Even if the government collapses I can see Labour putting in new leader after new leader until they legally have to hold an election.

The government have been an utter disaster and yet the media have been treating them with kid clothes. Why? Because Labour are dancing to the tune of Davos.

Everything will be an unmitigated disaster until the very last second they’re in power.

Oh, also for the other posters here; if you believe they’re going to start seizing the empty rooms of private homes you’re absolutely fucking retarded. Please, log off, go for a walk, and speak to your loved ones. You’re currently one step away from getting a Wallace and Gromit avatar whilst hoarding phosphorus based fertiliser.

I hate this government but even I realise even they are not that fucking stupid.

Never say never, though I do appreciate that some people are pissed that it's taking a while for things to happen.

Sometimes nothing happens, but on certain days a lot happens and very quickly indeed.

95% optimism, 5% something else...

Even the most rainbow optimist Labour backer is now walking back the 'in power for five years' rhetoric and stating that there will be change before then.

The snag people are missing is this:

Burnham is Labour's saviour, yet he doesn't have a seat and Starmer won't let him have one.
Starmer blocking what is best for his party accelerates its collapse with him at the helm.

Do you really think he cares about the party? About each individual MP in the party? No, he cares about himself and nobody else - he wouldn't even credit Ange with the job she had been chosen by the party to do. As PM, he can't stand that others get to vote on things... do you really think he wants Powell or Phillipson as Deputy? He'll just ignore them and treat Wes Streeting as the Deputy.

Now, should Caerphilly be the turning point, and Reform UK win the seat in 10 days time, it puts Morgan and Starmer on notice. How both react to this will not just shape the next few weeks but very possibly how long the party have left on both sides of the border.

Reform UK have done the crucial thing - gained ground, held ground and pulled ahead at a time when Starmer has announced the cancer of Digital ID. This announcement has nuked Labour polling wide and made them wholly unelectable, with the Budget to come.

That IMO is the pivotal moment.

We needed Starmer to fail at the Conference - he did, there's nothing positive to report.
We need Labour to split apart (Burnham/Corbyn) - this is ongoing.

Once the ship cannot be steered, it will sink.

Things do take time to happen, but once the 'happening' arrives then change comes around quickly. In fact, I'm quite sure that things are happening to bring about change which we know nothing of.

Yes, I too am frustrated that the collapse hasn't come quicker than I would have liked, but I don't control the game - I can, however, see that Labour have (even partially by their own admission) very little time to change things and given that Nigel has today acknowledged that he will be the next PM it is not a case of if before 2029 but when before 2029. The strategy will be to stay ahead as Labour crash even further behind - let them do the hard work of burying themselves.

Sometimes, it's easier to wait for the enemy to wear itself out - it makes the final and fatal attack a lot more easy and a lot more satisfying.

Any other 'Brits' in here that are Johnny Foreigners in disguise?
Own up, ye non-whites!
Potato nigger, ready for duty Sir!

Yes. I have seen someone cover a pizza with little wheels of sliced banana. I did find it gross but then I've seen people put pineapple on pizza which I also find horrifying, so I just classed it with that.
Had the dubious pleasure of a fruit pizza whilst in Germany. It was the usual pizza base, tomato sauce, melty cheese and onion bits on top, but also had mango and lychee pieces on it. It was actually bloody lovely.

Now, the curry I had with strawberries in was something else entirely. No thank you. Bananas in curry are fine. Strawberries, god no.

Starmer has his orders from Davos
Read that as ‘Davros’ and didn’t even blink.

It actually follows some Francais, mes ami:

Que sera sera..

Whatever
Will
Be
Will
Be
We’re going to Wem-bur-lee? Not if they still have VAR, we’re not. Fuck that bullshit.

Anyway, while our news is full of Gaza stuff, why am I supposed to care so much about Palestine (and not so much about any other war)? I genuinely couldn’t give a fuck about the Middle East. As long as they keep their stupid blow-a-fucker-up-for-nowt going on, they’re welcome to stay over there and carry on. But the moment you tell someone you don’t know about or care about Gaza, people look at you like you just said you always fancied giving Hitler a bj. What’s wrong with people?
