A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I'm going to be that guy now and hope they make an exception for northern Europeans, and for Irish obviously, because they're close enough to us culturally and genetically that having them here doesn't make a difference.
Ireland and the UK have been a Common Travel Area since 1923. This means that citizens of Ireland and the UK have close to identical rights to citizens in each other's countries. That agreement is very unlikely to change in the foreseeable future.

It's much simpler: He smells money. He thinks he can grift on the back of the changing zeitgeist.
Bingo. I think the setup will probably be Griftin', Jim Dowson and Jayda Franzen with a new Christian nationalist party. They've all been coasting along comfortably grifting money from Christians these past few years while doing fuck all, and now the opportunity has arisen for them to up their game. I doubt they'll rebrand fully. They'll probably just have a new name over the door.

Nick needs a new extension, Jim has paramilitaries he needs to fund and Jayda is probably in the market for a boob job by now.

The call to arms to ex-BNP members has gone down like a knackered lift. That much I can tell you.

While I agree, it is worth bearing in mind that once the first stone in a landslide starts rolling, things can get out of hand pretty damn fast. I don't think it's likely, but it's not outside the bounds of possibility. I want wheover gets in to focus on expelling the legitimate threats to the British isles, which is africans, muslims, and everyone east of Gallipoli. I can't do anything about it either way.

Actual news!

Lib Dems want health warnings on teens' social media

The Liberal Democrats say children using social media apps should be shown cigarette-style health warnings to help protect their mental health.

The party says the move would protect youngsters from "addictive algorithms", citing concerns over excessive phone usage.

It also wants a two-hour "doomscrolling cap" limiting how long under-18s can access TikTok-style video clips.

The party says its own research has shown excessive social media use can lead to anxiety, sleep disruption and shortened attention spans.

Announcing the plan at the party's autumn conference in Bournemouth, technology spokesperson Victoria Collins said excessive social media use brings well-documented risks, "just like cigarettes or alcohol".

Adding that the issue was a public heath "crisis," she said social media apps had become "more and more addictive" for children.

She added that mandatory health alerts would not prevent teenagers using social media or connecting with friends online, but would "ensure they go into the experience with their eyes open to the risks".

"When we pick up a pack of cigarettes or a bottle of wine, we expect to be told about the harm those products will pose to our health," she argued.

"So why is social media, the key driver of a crisis in young people's mental health, any different?"

Graphic pictures to illustrate the dangers of smoking have been mandatory on cigarette packets in the UK since 2008.

Alcoholic drinks must display the volume of alcohol, whilst the units and warnings against drinking while pregnant are often displayed under a series of voluntary industry schemes.

The government is considering making these mandatory as part of its 10-year NHS plan, along with dedicated alcohol "health warning messages".

The Liberal Democrats are pointing to proposals for social media suggested last year by Vivek Murthy, who was the most senior health adviser in the Biden administration.

He had suggested that under-18s accessing social media platforms should be referred to research on the mental health impact of using the apps.

Smartphone ban

Children aged eight to 17 spend between two and five hours online per day, according to Ofcom research, external.

Children have to be at least 13 to create their own social media profile, with stricter rules on age checks coming into force in July.

The new regulations also introduced new rules requiring platforms to change the algorithms which determine what is shown in children's feeds.

The Liberal Democrats have previously pushed unsuccessfully to raise the age at which tech companies can collect children's data from 13 to 16.

The Labour government is currently considering a two-hour cap on the use of individual social media apps for children, along with a 22:00 curfew.

But in her speech, Collins said that ministers "make noise" about online safety but had yet failed to deliver on promises of stronger time curbs.

Ministers have also previously faced pressure from the Conservatives to legislate for an England-wide ban on smartphones in schools.

Labour has so far stopped short of legislating for such a ban, although it has said it is reviewing guidance that allows individual headteachers to ban the devices.

It's not as if we're not living through a decade of the previously unthinkable constantly happening, but Northern Ireland's status makes an agreement like the CTA essential, so I feel that if it did change it will be because things have gotten so much worse than I can currently imagine. Tbh, and maybe I'm just desperate to cling to any positives, the one silver lining I see in our current nightmare state is the growing acknowledgement between people in Britain and Ireland, that our differences are very minor compared to our current near identical challenges.

Marches in Northern Ireland with Union Jacks, Ulster flags and Irish flags being held by groups that were literally arm in arm, was not something I ever thought possible. The amount of Irish flags that were flying in the midst of the UTK march last week was also unprecedented.

Reform see Johnson as a potential threat by the fact they're calling the 2020 - 2023 boom in boats 'Boriswave'. I think they've actually made it impossible for him to return by doing this because the stats are fact.

Very, very smart of them to do that.

I'm going to be that guy now and hope they make an exception for northern Europeans, and for Irish obviously, because they're close enough to us culturally and genetically that having them here doesn't make a difference. We've always had a small amount of population exchange with the low countries and the scandis. We need a blanket ban on new africans and every kind of asian, anyone muslim, and anyone from France. Anyone who yodels the shahada needs to be gone immediately.
Even as hard line as I am, other than Eastern Europeans abusing the system I couldn't careless if we have some Italians or Swedes here. They're in pretty low numbers, don't cause problems and have culture very similar to ours. We need to figure out how immigration from the mainland and here work in the future to make sure we don't have leeches and make them speak our language.

There is something that really annoys me. Walking down a street and hearing 5 different languages. It's awful and they all sound like faggots.

Saw another disgusting racist England flag on my way to work and it nearly put me off my Marks and Spencer's Spinach and Halloumi wrap. Why are inbred racist skinheads so hellbent on terrorising the most vulnerable in society?

That's why I propose that Keir Starmer and King Charles has an emergency meeting to come up with a new England flag, one that's state approved with none of the decaying stench of racism attached to it. Ideally I'd replace the cross with a crescent moon and have some green in there as solidarity with Palestine.

That way everyone wins. We get to brandish our flag everywhere and anyone caught with or displaying a St George's Cross will be put against a wall and shot.

You live in clown world mate. This was flying over the Tate 10 years ago. You can't parody it even if you try, you're already 10 years behind clown world's insanity.

Looking more into the Reform immigrant thing. The BBC has a surprisingly decent article on it.

They do get in a few knocks - for one, they claim that most migrants on benefits are EU citizens, which is clearly aimed at the "they only come here for benefits" crowd, but unwittingly concedes part of the reason people wanted brexit. Nige isn't touching EU citizens with settled status, but indefinite leave to remain will be stripped. Funny thing is, the couple of frogs I know (old work contacts) never got settled status, so my earlier requirements might actually be getting catered to.

They're treating Farage as the next PM already. It's weird. The other shoe must surely drop sooner or later.

The most spiteful thing Starmer could do is "wait out" the entirety of Trump's term in office and deny us PM Farage at a time when the US president would actually like our PM and cut us a good deal.

The BBC actually had an article up during Trump's visit titled "Completely different but genuinely get on" in reference to Starmer. Who believes that shit for a second?

But Nigel? I could absolutely see Trump calling him up to go golfing etc. He's spoken very positively about Farage in the past. They're on the same page.

Trump is a lot like Vince McMahon. He's an asshole who will stab you in the back if it's better for his business. But he's also willing to forgive you for stabbing him in the back if it helps his business too. Farage and Trump have fallen out in the past, but Trump will let Farage back into the fold if it benefits him. He let Musk back into the fold this week with the Kirk murders despite both slap fighting on twitter.

Starmer has never been in the fold and never will be. He's two faced constantly and will lie to his friends if it benefits him personally. He's the exact type of Jew that gets black listed.

Every time I see Trump interact with Starmer, it always comes off as he's making fun of him and constantly putting him on the spot with awkward questions. A good example from the last meetings were the free speech, the question of why he would assign Peter Mandelson to be the US ambassador and the question of why he hasn't sent the UK navy to deal with the boat immigrants yet to name a few.

It's pretty funny to watch Starmer constantly panic and slip over his own words over and over ("we have a long tradition of free speech!!!") and be constantly on the borderline of crying. What mostly annoys me is he really should just lay into him without mercy like what he did with South Africa's PM. There's no way he doesn't know Starmer is a snake and lies to him without end, he even tried to set up Kamala as the next President of the US by sending over all those Labour members to campaign for her. I'd be very happy if he cornered him on the free speech line Starmer always gives and let him know to his face that he's lying and that if nothing changes and if the online safety bill remains, any talks of a trade deal are off.

TL DR: It's funny to watch Starmer get bullied but it doesn't achieve anything for us.

The labour members sent to campaign for kamala is one of the few concrete examples of actual foreign interference in US elections. He's pissed at Starmer for being retarded enough to do that on the record, and is petty enough to humiliate him over it which is amusing.

Let just Starmer get shot already!
Much as I hate the bloke, no.

I understand why many think that, but doing this act would only lead to Labour being elected back in 'out of sympathy' and would be the one thing the woke idiots would use freely:

'You can't vote for the far right, they'll kill you - they're murderers!'

Starmer's punishment needs to be removal of all his wealth, possessions etc. and these going to the Exchequer.

I don’t think anyone minds a few nords or Irish. The shetlands are very close to Norway in friendship terms, their dialect is heavily influenced by old Norse and there’s a strong genetic admixture too. I think it (it being Norwegian admixture) hits 25-30% around the fringe places like Yell. They’re not separate peoples genetically.
Theres a whole Celtic/scandi genetic sprinkling along that Atlantic /north/ set of coastlines because the seaways used to be the best way to move things. You can see that goes a long way back too - the ness of brodgar shows that the isles used to be the centre of a huge culture thousands of years back.
I don’t have any issues with a few Norwegians, Danes (they will need to behave, mind) or Irish.
I don’t even particularly mind a few Actual Europeans. Everyone knows who they want out,

Roald Dahl was born to Norwegian Immigrant parents and he alone has contributed more to British culture than quite literally an infinite amount of browns ever will.
