A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I think that's a little bit different. The war was a joint thing between the US, the UK, Poland and Australia. It's sort of hard to stop a war unless you win or come to an agreement which Saddam Hussein certainly wasn't in the mood for.

EU4 logic works wonders with the world, funnily enough. Allies can't end the war or sue for peace until years in!

Reform are currently polling equal to or more than the combined vote of Labour and the Tories.
There's mass outrage with people in and around Epping and other parts of the country threatening to stop paying council tax (stupid idea; was way easier in the 80s because everything was paper back then whereas now council bureaucrats could just press a button and refer thousands of people to bailiffs for unpaid debt).

It's spread to Australia, Poland, Germany and even Japan. I don't think it's going away but that might just be me being a Positive Polly.

I am interested in who you think is framing all this, though.

That Chinese looks like a closed business. Unless they expect us to believe the windows were boarded up and then painted white without spilling a drop of paint.

Plus, everyone leaves the Chinese alone. During the riots last summer is was quite funny seeing “rioters” walking past Chinese chippies. No one has an issue with the Chinese as they’re not raping young girls and demanding the country turns into China.

Show me a racist who would desecrate a chippy and you’re showing me someone who needs deported as they are not an Englishman.

Tommy chants at the protests. Good old Ezra has been seen on the ground at these protests several times. September the 13th is fast approaching (and Ezra will sell you a VIP ticket for £5k)...

You've been watching the same videos I have mate. How many times have you seen an Israel flag either in the crowd or spammed in the chats?

Its the same old story. Concentrate on the snake in your garden, not the neighbour that put it there.

Looks like they're basic security boards, Google maps gives a clearly look but the other photo shows it too, the pizza places next to them has shutters on. The social media is active enough that if it is closed it was recent.

Hilariously they have a video up on Facebook of a window cleaner "removing" the graffiti. No-one in the comments sections has yet realised he has cleaned it so well the delivery box on the right hand side has disappeared.

I think that was different in a few ways. It affected us, but it didn’t affect the general public directly (unless you were armed forces.) It was an overseas war that was deeply unpopular, but it wasnt a domestic issue.
This IS a domestic issue. It’s a lot closer than Iraq. It affects us all. People feel like this is hitting them directly, and it is.
I wonder how long the police can deal physically with the protests? You must feel knackered after a day of that, and weeks and weeks on end, it’ll take its toll.

Their march, regardless of its size, amounted to nothing because it ultimately made organic opposition inorganic by associating itself with genuine anti-war sentiments. Then when figures from the government themselves also took part in it, it became a sanctioned event. The leader of the liberal democrats at the time turned up to speak. There wasn't a single reported incident at the event, effectively giving no cause for worry. Numbers don't matter when when the anger's doused.

Thanks for the reminder, I've been led down a path of a guy obsessed with Labubu dolls, AI images and a potential partial phonebook.

Going to pop it in a spoiler because this guy is fascinating and I don't want to derail.

Naturally, started with https://nicksimulator.com. Site built in React, built with Webpack and uses privacy-friendly analytics tracking.

My guess is the guy works as a professional developer and isn't new to it. Basically all new guides and how-to documents recommend Vite these days rather than Webpack. You do have to go a bit out of your way these days to find a guide that recommends Webpack.

He also has specified meta tags which means he knows about SEO. This helped me find his Twitter.

The only bit of data that hasn't been redacted for privacy is this which states the owner of the site lives in South Gloucestershire. I'd be slightly more inclined to trust this as truth because ICANN registrations usually require an address for a .com website.

This is where things get fascinating and confusing. He protects himself pretty well as the entire account is a satire account dedicated to popularising his website and he's playing the Nick character. He launched the site on 17th August.

ZERO results in a reverse image search which means it just isn't in the TinEye database or this is a photo he actually took and uploaded for the first time in this tweet. If any other spergs out there have a better way of doing a reverse image search, I'd love if you could check, please :)

Assuming he did take and upload this photo, he probably lives in Unit A. Nice place, very high rent which would most certainly piss him off enough to start the entire Nick, 30 ans thing.

More images on Rightmove. Over 2 grand a month to rent! I'd be pissed at that and build a sim game if I was paying that in rent.

Have also checked multiple search engines for websites that have had any updates in the past month that include the name 'Progress' and 'Party'. The Norwegian Progress Party really makes this difficult. Could not find anything.

Also did random shot in the darks by just visiting progress-party.co.uk, progressparty.co.uk etc... and no luck there either.

TLDR: He has good OPSEC, not a lefty and may live in London. I think his bitterness about the rent and price of property probably points to him living in London. He has either paid a professional developer or has these skills himself. I don't have a problem with him or anything like that, just want to know who's behind this account and the fascinating Progress party stuff that's been set up.

I'm more inclined to believe he paid someone because why use a Google Form to register as an interested voter? People with no tech skills use Google Forms. Either that or he just wants to be able to track and see the email addresses of everyone who visits his form. Hope you guys all signed out before clicking a Google link.

This piece seemed kind of :optimistic:. I thought that generally even European right-wingers see Trump as an embarrassing retard, the idea that rhetoric from his government would help anyone in a British election seems far fetched. I'm given to understand Trump helped the Liberals win the last election in Canada, although perhaps it's a bit apples and oranges as he was talking about annexing them. Still though, even if you should be inclined to agree, foreign criticisms often just make a populace defensive.

Rendall & Wittner don't manage any blocks in South Gloucestershire (which is basically North Bristol suburbs and countryside) but they manage two blocks within Bristol. These are Capricorn Place and the Wapping Wharf development. I know for a fact (and no I do not live there) that Capricorn Place does not have this poster but since it states a 'Met' police op, I would assume it is only shown in London. I will add to say that this poster will only be visible to those who have business being in a luxury development like this so either employed by the management company or living there. It would be weird for him to take a photo of a poster he made, along with the angle clearly being from a phone photo taken quickly, would lead me to believe he is resident of the Woodberry Down complex for sure.

Not as different as you'd think. Forget what they're trying to achieve, because depending on who you talk to you'll get a different result (if they even know at all). Its the method that matters.

As has rightly been pointed out, the Stop The War Coalition demonstration was overwhelmingly peaceful for it's size, but ultimately it was a fruitless endeavour.

Contrast this with the Poll Tax riots. A hundred thousand or more people involved, hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage, about 500 arrests in total, and civil disobedience on a nationwide scale (refusal to pay). End result? The resignation of Margaret Thatcher a few months later and John Major abolishing the Community Charge.

What we have seen so far have been minor scuffles at best. There has been no significant property damage. No mass arrests. More importantly, there has been nothing that actually makes the base of power flinch. Has it left the government with egg on it's face? It certainly has, but no more than a good sex scandal or swan moat. What happened last year made them flinch.

Even if it causes a radical shake up in the next general election (and, yes, you're going to have to wait until 2029), the most you can hope for are a few more scheduled deportation flights. At least on the current trajectory we're on.

Which is precisely what has happened now. The window for causing change has been and gone. Just look at the police's reaction now compared to the first week.

The best these people have to offer is a few "I'm not racist bruv" or a "Kier Starmers a wanker" while dragging their mixed-race grandkids out to wear a flag and dance to some shitty AI music over a PA while some convicted nonce livestreams them (big ups A J Audits).

Maybe if we get another Southport event they'll treat it less like a beer garden and more like an actual call to action.

Big Flag made bank out of the whole occasion though. Good on 'em. They've been having a rough time of it of late.
