A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Reading that - all main doors to be locked. That is really unsafe, isn’t it? Says serco have approved. Typical - screw fire safety, just dont talk to YouTubers.
I would be really concerned about fire safety, but then I remember who is inside those hotels and I really don’t care anymore.

If they are doing that though it could be grounds for a council shutting the buildings down if Serco are operating a bunch of mini Glenfell’s waiting to happen.

For years I though the town was called "Hove Actually" as that was what people said when asked if they lived in Brighton.
Says it all, really. Place is a shithole just like almost all seaside towns in the country.

Kicking off really badly at Canary Wharf today, police kettled all of the protesters, told them to remove face coverings as they ran through footage to see which ones to arrest immediately after pepper spraying a few mums and an 11 year old child.

The Lib Dems are going to table an amendment tomorrow ahead of PMQs on Wednesday. The amendment is to try and force the government to publish any legal advice it's received on breaches of international law in Gaza.

If they are targeting people at the protests then the action should be away from the protests. We learned this decades ago with the football firms.
Or by having lots of little protests.

If you’re all at one site you’re easy to kettle. You have a bunch of smaller crowds at different sites then the police are spread too thin very quickly and can’t do anything.

Police have issued an 'armed military personnel on patrol' alert to residents of a cluster of Warwickshire villages. The Ministry of Defence asked Warwickshire police to pass the warning on to residents in and around Kineton and surrounding villages in South Warwickshire.

The reason is unknown, but it "will not be a huge shock to residents in these villages considering Kineton is home to a 2,500 acre army base Defence Munitions (DM) Kineton - the largest ammunition depot in western Europe."

No doubt Palestine Action or one of the many 'Palestine' groups who are threatening mob violence.

There have been death threats issued to General Electric staff in Nantgarw, near Caerphilly, as well by these idiots.

Have they really gotten that bad to the point of threatening to storm an army base?

Which is how it worked shortly after Southport last year. Especially in the evenings.

The auditors and iPhone speds have put the kibosh on a lot of the more serious people getting involved this time around. Last year people were getting their phones taken off them. Now you have some sped livestreaming with 1k viewers giving it the sovereign citizen routine.

Here's a few assorted videos from the last couple of days of protests:

Believe this one happened yesterday. Police just straight up decks a protester then throws a bloke to the ground.

Here's from Canary Wharf today:

Not sure where this one's from, but the reaction from the bloke right by the cameraman is great. Brave of them to walk through a Muslim area chanting "Allah? Allah? Who the fuck is Allah?", all it needs is a punch or a bottle thrown and you've got a race riot.

EDIT: It really does sound like they're saying "Alan".

Nativist protests have also started in Japan and Australia, of all places. Here's Japan:

Sounds like Takeshi's Castle. I think we're seeing a collective "we are sick of these filthy fucks now" shift. Mad scenes, keep it bloody going.

Probably never. Its just a day out for most of them. Just watch the numbers drop when it starts raining.
It looks like we're going to be having at least 30 protests every weekend indefinitely now until this is sorted and the numbers at Epping yesterday and today were 10x what they were last weekend. Roads were absolutely heaving, lined, guard rails separating them and the road.

The Home Office decision to keep Epping has really pissed people off and some people are actively stepping up to argue and shout at police. Wouldn't surprise me if it happened a few times.

Hope there'll be an FOI request going in for that officer. Definitely more aggression in reaction to far less than many other encounters where the police have been expected to do an internal investigation.

Can't make out his number otherwise I'd submit the FOI myself.

You can tell he made a mistake because his fellow officers tugged him back and were whispering to him from the side.

I admire your optimism mate. I just look at the people there and I think they're not ready for this. All thats going to happen is old dears and kids getting hurt. Which is exactly what has happened today.

Numbers don't mean dick. There were 1.5 million people or more at the Stop The War Coalition march in London. The largest political protest the UK has ever seen. All demonstrating for a cause that was far easier to remedy than what we're facing now, and what did that accomplish?

The more I'm seeing, the more my tinfoil hat tingles. Witnessing a couple of these protests first-hand, seeing the framing of them in both the mainstream media and the fringe, seeing the people involved at ground level, seeing the parties involved trying to ride it's coattails... If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then its a gay op. The first couple of protests were organic, but what has followed feels very stage managed. The revolution will not be televised, but it will have super chats.
