A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Hilariously after the news that 16 years will be able to vote, there's been massive response today that sixteen year olds don't want the vote because they "are too young" and "don't know what to vote for". This has to be some kind of diversionary tactic to get people talking about something else.

Bank cards are now going to be allowed for voter ID.

A card which doesn't have any photographic evidence that you are you is now allowed to be used while voting. Lose a bank card the week before the election? You might get there and find that your vote has already been counted. This is also going to be great for asylum seekers who can claim they live here because they have a bank card so they can vote.

That's why they announced it with the 16 year olds thing, barely anyone under the age of 20 votes anyway so it was a major diversion.

Inclusive education is an abomination.

I was reading on Reddit of a woman complaining that a handicapped child was in her kids year 3 maths class watching Paw Patrol on full blast while the rest of them were trying to learn, thankfully most respondents were in agreement that this is unacceptable. This is why I will never believe in 'inclusive education', he should just stay home. What's the point of paying the Mum all these benefits if he's pawned off onto overpressured and underresourced schools only to learn shit all and infect all the other kids, who are serious students, with the same sort of misery that usually plagues his household?

If the parents are in receipt of disability benefits they should damn well care for him, it's not the responsibility of a TA to change his nappy and such.

Children who can have their SEND catered to should and those who can't shouldn't be in a school: a simple pedagogical philosophy that seems to elude whoever is insisting that this performative 'education' of children who literally can't learn (because on a neurological level it's just not possible) must continue and making the lives of teachers and other children a living Hell, while also acting as a cruel conversion-like 'therapy' (torture) for the afflicted children. They should be playing with other disabled kids rather than being shoe-horned into a role they will never fulfil.

Inclusive education is one of the biggest disasters that the UK education system has ever seen.

This doesn't apply to all 'SEND' students. Often times the parents of so-called SEND students will snidely tell you how they had a teacher disciplined by the school for asking her little Jane to stop destroying class materials for 'discriminating against her disability'. Many 'SEND/disability' is in actual fact, the cumulative effects of neglect, lack of discipline, zero boundaries/socialisation, a parent-instilled victim complex and poor nutrition --and nothing else extraordinary neurologically, more or less amounting to parental munchausens-by-proxy. MbP is a condition that has become a social contagion incentivised by parents being rewarded by the welfare state for claiming to have SEN children.

I know a lot of disabled people (wheel chair, missing body parts or painful conditions) on PIP. They struggle to get on it. It's not as easy as saying you're disabled and you get £200 a month. People who do deserve it have to go through hell and the court system to get it. I think a lot of the people claiming depression are ethnics judging each other. They insert a paki into the system then the paki agrees the other pakis are depressed and need PIP while they work at their dad's shop.

Disabled benefits need a reform so it's easier for actual disabled people to get them and harder for fakers. Depression should not get you disability. Only a medical condition that severely limits your ability to work. And working at a super market checking people out is not an acceptable job to judge people on. A guy with no legs could technically run a till but it's only getting in the way of the functional people making them less effective.

Stop hiring retards and cripples for jobs they're not suitable for. Get a proper industry and place for them to live where they can self sustain. Like prisoners can cook their own food, so can the retards.

I have a male who once worked in hospitality,and they had a guy with really bad special needs who worked there 3 hours a week. In the kitchen. Was so special he wasn't allowed to handle knives.

Some people are so below capable that they're not fit to be working at all. I'm not advocating for them to be gassed, however if they're so badly off they can't work or live independently then we need to, at a societal level, have a serious discussion about what to do with them. We expend far too much effort, and far too many resources letting them live a pretence of a normal life in order to preserve their, or more frequently, their families, feelings.

From what I gleamed @Geoff Capes Vapes Apes doesn't like the browns and blacks and @lamppost believes in treating people as individuals and not as part of their racial group, naive? maybe but that's neither here nor there. IN response Geoff decides to a remarkable impression of a black or brown that he so despises leading to two sub 60 IQ mongs having a sperg out at eachother.

The biggest crime here is that the spergout wasn't even funny, just annoying.
