A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I never got why when this happens 9/10 the men around don't just beat the living shit out of the guy and just restrain him? If I were ever in that sort of situation then the first thing that's happening when he's on the floor is them getting curb stomped on one of those steps.

Are we really this subdued or burnt out that even when a child has been randomly attacked that we can't get mad enough to turn a guy into a smear on the floor?

This country is a lawless hellscape if you're White and in this case attacking a Black man, the police would arrest them first and would gladly aim for the max sentencing for them harrasing the poor minority.

Because if you do then he isn't the one that's ending up in a jail cell. When I was in britbongistan I literally saw a black man get arrested for calling a white guy "nigga" during a fight that the white guy started while they were both drunk, "oi bruv dats a bit roisist innit" is far more damning than any crime. You think a bunch of natives brutalizing a poor poor innocent widdle minority (even justifiably so) wouldn't all get maximum sentences?

Optics, even retarded nonsensical optics, is more important than justice in the UK these days. It's gay, but that's how it is.

In the moment, optics be damned and more people should make it clear that were not going to put up with this.

Imagine the optics if those who kicked the crap out of this guy got as long, if not longer sentences then the wog? The British government is dumb but even they've got to realise with footage being available of this guy sucker punching a man and a child and then getting rightfully smacked has resulted in everyone else getting a similar or even worse punishment then he did looks really bad.

Because if you beat the shit out them you’re going to go to prison. The laws around self defence is this country are retarded and is it worth risking a trail if you could end up with a jury full of Guardians reading cat ladies who hear the contents of your WhatsApp group chats being read allowed by a barrister?

I wonder why her extremely rich parents (her father was a pageboy at the queen's wedding) permitted all 4 of her children to go into care despite having wealth beyond imagination. They're both nutjobs but their claim that her parents are both racist and disapproved of the union and their mixed race children on that basis is probably not without merit.

I think it depends what it is. A child in a wheelchair with cerebral palsy but above normal intelligence shouldn’t be shoved in a special school. Neither should things that are mildly disabling physically but allow the child to keep up mentally. Mild hearing or visual issues that don’t need specialist kit etc should and can be dealt with in mainstream without harming the class.
Screaming Autists, behavioural issues and violent / disruptive children DO affect the class and need separate provision.

That's exactly who I'm referring to, maybe it wasn't clear. And the groups of children you just mentioned are currently terrorising schools because of regressive new policies to keep them in school to the detriment of everyone else.
